Self-Catering Reviews

September 2020
Lovely cottage, well equipped kitchen but could do with more cupboards for grocery storage seeing as nearest shop (Village shop closed all week) is 20 minutes drive away.. The cottage was in a beautiful location with classy touches to the decor, making our stay very welcome. The bathrooms were perfect with the added touch of personalised towels and all the beds were extremely comfortable. The cottage always felt warm and cosy with plenty of room for our 7 family members.
March 2020
Great place for our large group of 11 adults and one child.. Plenty space and bathrooms for us all! Comfy beds. Large table in the kitchen where we all sat to eat and drink and we enjoyed the log burner and fire. Great place for walking up the dale or up the hills and good pubs dotted around. We will book here again when we are back in the area.

Large, comfortable home which easily accommodated our group.. The decor was a bit tired and the oven could do with a good clean but other than that we loved it. Big comfy beds and good location for walks and the Buck Inn.

A very spacious property, well fitted out and ideal for large families and groups to enjoy this most beautiful part of Yorkshire.. Lots of options for walks of varying levels from the house. We had a perfect week's stay. Two great meals at The Buck Inn.

Quick and easy booking with no fuss! First time booking but definitely won't be the last. Highly recommended and already passed on the details to other friends
January 2019
Lovely well kept cottage in a beautiful location.. Perfect for our group of 8 adults and 2 children - Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone! The Buck Inn was just a 2 minute walk away and was great for a drink and a bite to eat in the evening. We would also recommend a walk to Starbotton (the next village). Great walk along the river and a lovely traditional pub in Starbotton to have a drink in before the walk back. Absolutely brilliant weekend, already planning the next trip! Thank you from all of us!

Excellent location in the middle of wensleydale.. no complaints about the house at all. We would have liked a washer/dryer inside the house, but not a big deal as the cleaning lady washed and dryed our dirty clothes at the midpoint of our vacation

Perfect in every way! Easy to find. Lovely village with a shop. Decent car parking, wonderful views. The house was superb - comfy beds, huge kitchen, spacious, airy, light, comfortable furniture, well stocked. Patio for evening drinks. Endless hot water for deep baths or torrential showers. Walking right from the house, no need to drive anywhere unless you want to - and there is lots you might want to explore. But the walking was what we went for and there were rivers, flat walks, fells, waterfalls, pub walks ..... it was just wonderful! We took 2 dogs, who also enjoyed both the house and the walks. There is no mobile phone signal in the village; this, for me, was another plus!

Probably the best cottage I ever rented in UK! The house is large, very confortable with high quality amenities. The owners were really helpful and vey kind to leave a welcome tray with biscuit, come and tea. Plus, it is perfectly located at close range from terrific walks and excellent pubs. I highly recommend this cottage.

We booked Cliiford House Farm because we wanted somewhere where we could get together with our four children, their respective other halves and our granddaughter, plus two dogs. It worked really well. The house is very comfortable, in good decorative order, with a well equipped kitchen and with good quality linen provided. The welcome tray on arrival with tea, coffee, biscuits and milk in the fridge was a nice touch. The nine of us, plus baby enjoyed memorable communal meals around the large farmhouse kitchen table, and there was plenty of comfortable sitting space in either of the two lounges. The weather during our stay was poor, and we appreciated the efficient heating!

June 2017
We rented Clifford House Farm to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday. It is large enough to accommodate all four children and partners plus grandchildren. The space is terrific. Both sitting rooms large enough to fit us all in, but also allowed some quiet space when needed. The kitchen is huge and well equipped, with a table to seat 12 people comfortably. Lovely views from just about all windows. It is tucked just behind the Buck Inn, sadly closed at present, but that meant it was very quiet. The owners are really helpful and go to any lengths to make you feel welcome. All in all and excellent holiday.

We gathered family here; three siblings, spouses and others for a reunion. The accommodations far exceeded our expectations and the location was perfect for all. The kitchen was well equipped and stocked with ample cutlery and crockery for our large group. We didn't light the fire or wood burning stove but it was ready to use. Having 3 bathrooms was great as well as 2 lounge spaces. Having a house full didn't feel claustrophobic because the space was well utilized. Convenient for Grassington, Skipton, Hawes and Leyburn the location gave plenty of options available for those that didn't want to walk. It's unfortunate that The Buck Inn is closed because it left nowhere to eat locally for an evening meal. However the White Lion in Cray was amazing. This property is ideal for large groups, walkers or sightseers.

It's been a wonderful holiday and family time away together.. Lots of climbing, walking trails, good facilities and a comfortable stay all round. Brilliant of Sykes cottages to arrange for lost items to be returned. Overall highly recommended.

June 2016
Liked the situation in the centre of the village and all its amenities. Also, the log burners in both rooms made it very cosy. The big kitchen table seated 11 of us very comfortably and the Aga was great for warming the plates and also drying our clothes after a thorough soaking whilst walking the Dales Way.

I stayed with my two sons, daughter-in-law and a bunch of Matt's mates from Australia. They were over for fell walking from pub to pub, with about 15 miles of rugged hill between. Jen and I were backup drivers, delivering to the departure point (pub) and collecting them from destination (pub), where they were watching the WorldCup Rugby tournament. Another reason for their visit. Jen was mummy to them all, while we both did the shopping daily, and enjoyed excellent pub lunches in the area. while the lads were hiking the hills. We took our turn in cooking the evening meal, in the well appointed kitchen while they watched more rugby on the TV. Plenty of room for the 8 of us, plus we celebrated Matt's Grandpa' 99 'th birthday with other family members including my other daughter-in-law, Granddaughter, and first wife. A very large kitchen table and two comfortable living rooms, one with a wood burner making a cosy warm atmosphere. Lovely place to stay: could not fault it, and two minutes from the Buck Inn. I would revisit if I could!

June 2015
Liked everything! The Farmhouse has been refurbished and this was deeply appreciated by members of our party, especially the showers and kitchen. The pub next door is brilliant and the inhabitants friendly, plus the fact that any description of the Dales cannot do them justice.
Mrs Tyler
May 2015
The cottage is in a great position for exploring the Dales by foot or car, and having a pub almost on our doorstep was very convenient. The cottage was large but still retained a cosy feel to it and was very comfortable.
Mrs Hayden

February 2015
The house was perfect for a family requiring five comfortable bedrooms, two separate lounges and a large, warm kitchen seating ten people round a large kitchen table. It is sited in a lovely village with a welcoming pub and shop in wonderful walking country and scenery. What more does one want?

We liked the location - very quiet and peaceful.
Miss Poole
July 2012
The farmhouse was brilliant for us. There was plenty of space and we were all pleased with the layout and facilities. The closeness to the pike was fantastic and meant it was easy to walk the dogs. Food in the village was lovely and despite the weather we managed to get walks and picnics in. It was particularly good for families as when you were at one end of the house those at the other end couldn't hear any noise!
April 2012
The house was very nice ,once we had got it warm and that took 3 day's,so not the best start to a holiday, with young grandchildren.Buckden is very nice, pity about the buck inn,as we were looking forward to eating there,no food and very run down. What we liked best was the wonderful kitchen ,and the very large table, and the only warm place to sit !.least never go there in the winter, unless the owner has told the caretaker to put the heating on.
The Bryants
October 2011
Lovely cottage. Very comfortable and clean. A garden would have made it slightly better as we had small children and couldn't use the patio which was at the end of the lane. It is however in a lovely peaceful spot right next to the Dales way and Buckden Pike. Easy driving distance to the Three Peaks, Skipton, Bolton Castle, Leyburn, Hawes.
Mr Middleton
August 2011
The cottage was spacious even with the full complement of eleven people. The location offered outstanding views of the Yorkshire Dales with plenty of walks on the doorstep.
May 2011
The ouse was excellent for our needs. Enough bedrooms to sleep us all. Games to keep us entertained, a week functioned kitchen. Wood and fire to keep us warm. From the village we were able to walk straight out of the house on to an excellent walk along the Dale tops without needing a car. Only downside - its a shame the pub has closed down - hope it reopens soon.
Mr Evans
March 2011
Good location - Buckden is in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, felt like we were really getting away from it all. Clifford House Farm was very nice to stay in.
Mr Foster
August 2010

April 2010
Lovely property, well equipped for large party, lovely and warm, fantastic walks direct from property. Great walks within easy driving distance. Walks of all types for all abilitys. On suite really weird, a shower in a bedroom but hey ho it worked. Superb warm, large kitchen.
Mrs Dewhurst
February 2010
Lovely big family kitchen, always warm, even in the bitter cold, due to the AGA style appliance. The real heart of the property. The house was big enough to have a holiday with lots of family members yet still enough room to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet. Superb walks straight from the house.
February 2010
A lovely cottage in a lovely Yorkshire Dale, Only 2 mins walk from the Buck which serves excellent food. There are several walks in the area for all ranging fronm the challenging to the afternoon stroll. The cottage as plenty of room the we found the second lounge a great escape from the TV. We been to this cottage twice never been disappointed, booked again for this year.
February 2010
We rented this cottage for my husband's 60th birthday - We invited some of our friends. We all had the best of times. We had the birthday meal at the restaurant attached to the village shop - it was brilliant. Plenty of other places to eat in the village, all very good. Did some lovely walks straight from the house and must return some day to do some more. The cottage was huge - lovely family kitchen where we all ate breakfast together. Lovely bedrooms and 2 living rooms. so plenty of room for all. Recommend this cottage and hope to return, maybe for MY 60th!!

The area, which is fantastic, the space in the house for a large group, the fact that the house felt warm on entry (due to the rayburn being on before we arrived), and that despite very cold weather, we were always comfortable.
