Area
Magnificent cathedral, mediaeval quayside district with artisan shops and cafes, guided tours of the maze of underground passages, and a plethora of taverns, shops, and restaurants make Exeter a vibrant city in south Devon. The Tucker's Hall, a fascinating mediaeval structure established for the Company of Weavers, Tuckers, and Shearman and now housing remarkable carved panelling, rare silver, and a 4-foot-long pair of fulling shears, is just one of many excellent museums documenting the city's long history. Parliament Street, which is nearby, is supposedly the smallest street in the world at its narrowest point, measuring less than 25 inches. A quiet refuge, Rougemont gardens are set against the backdrop of Roman wall ruins and include the castle's gatehouse and tower. Being the focal point of the intriguing complex of antique stores and cafes known as the Quayside, the Custom House is a reminder of Exeter's former importance as a port. Sidmouth and Exmouth, both a short drive away, have beautiful beaches and mark the beginning of the 95-mile Jurassic Coast, which offers plenty of chances for recreation, sport, and discovery. From Exeter, you can easily visit the rest of south Devon, including its picturesque countryside and World Heritage Coast.st.

Region
Devon, with its quiet country lanes, patchwork of lush green fields and sleepy villages is not to be missed. Stately home lovers will be spoiled and why not finish with a scrumptious Devonshire cream tea?
