A great holiday home, very comfortable.. The beds were surprisingly comfy and we all slept really well (at first sight beds seem hard). Good supply of everything you need for cooking, eating and drinking. Lovely welcome pack, and lovely owner. Mid Oct so couldn’t take of advantage of private outdoor space, but would like to go back next year

We had a lovely Christmas week in our little cottage in Yorkshire.. We never met our host but the cottage was exactly as described, including having full Christmas decorations which was a lovely touch. It was pristine and very easy to keep it that way, as it managed to be homely and well set up without being at all cluttered. The kitchen had all the equipment needed for us to cook up quite an elaborate Christmas feast. We had a lovely time and would gladly return.

On arrival we were greeted by welcome gifts of wine, eggs, fresh flowers and even some milk . Inside the cottage is very spacious with a lovely open plan living space, the bedrooms are all good sized . This cottage has all the home from home things you will need and is in a good quiet location we found the large parking area very useful when our friends and family came to visit. Thank you again to Sharon for a great relaxing stay and also for being so helpful
May 2018
A very comfortable and clean cottage.. We were only two but if 6 people were there I think another bathroom or an en-suite would be a welcome addition. Other than finding our way round the hot water system it was a very enjoyable stay.
April 2018
The cottage was beautiful, it had everything we needed and the beds were extremely comfortable.. The log fire was perfect for late evening relaxing. The enclosed courtyard was excellent for the grandchildren to run around in and well furnished. The location was ideal for a choice of visitor attractions; we visited Fountain Abbey and Monk Park Farm and thoroughly enjoyed both. We ate out at the Vale of York and the food was delicious.

A wonderful, easy to live in, clean cottage.. We were delighted. My husband has MS and has difficulty walking. My 90 year old stepmother also has mobility problems (uses a walker) and the cottage accommodated their needs well. The only - one - drawback was just having one bathroom and toilet but we managed.

A beautiful holiday home.Simple touches made us feel so welcome ie fresh roses, half a dozen free range eggs, milk and wine.Spacious rooms throughout for 5 adults and one baby. Comfortable beds with clean linen and ample towels.Well equipped kitchen with ample crockery etc. Well situated for visiting tourist locations (car is needed)within just over one hour travel (Whitby).Nearer are Thirsk, Helmsley and Masham. We enjoyed BBQ X2 in the enclosed courtyard.only downside is the one bathroom but soon sorted a plan. Generally a really good holiday helped by great accommodation. Would recommend to anyone.

First class cottage could not fault anything. Owners very nice and helpful best cottage we have stayed in, a jewel in the crown.
August 2013
Wonderful welcome with very nice owner . The house is very well rebuilt and has all the amenities we need and even more. Very clean and ordered, I found it one of the best I met in England. It is very well settled in a quite place not far of everything. Actually, I liked everything concerning the house, the place, the area I visited several times and I intent visiting again, if possible using the same cottage.
August 2013
When we arrived at Wheelhouse, we were immediately met by our hostess who could not have been more helpful. On opening the door to this immaculate cottage, we entered a spacious hallway and with billowing curtains...it was a hot sunny day the 1st week of June, so Sharon had opened the windows and patio doors to let the air circulate for us. It was perfect! a welcome, balloon, bottle of wine and other goodies were left for us. It was The nicest cottage we have stayed in. All 3 bedrooms were big, airy and comfortable. Excellent bathroom and kitchen facilities and the living room room/ kitchen opens up onto a private courtyard with table, chairs and an umbrella for shade. The cottage was beautifully and tastefully decorated, not too fussy with too many ornaments to break! all in all, it was a perfect holiday destination.
Ms Rowlay

This is an excellent cottage. Really well set out and very comfortable with everything you need for an easy stay. All on one level, which made it ideal for members of our party with limited mobility. Special touches by the owners, who are really friendly and helpful, made us feel very welcome. The situation of the cottage makes a it a great base for dales, moors and coast and the proximity to thirsk makes self catering easy with handy shopping and also many possibilities for eating out.

A well presented, welcoming holiday home in an excellent location. We appreciated the extra effort the owner had gone to to provide everything we could need such children's toys in the garden and plastic cups and plates. The layout works really well for extended families and is good for families as it is all on one level. We will be coming back!

We liked everything! We have had many cottage holidays and this one was amongst the best. We were particularly grateful to the owners for letting our 3 year old grandson enjoy the use of their young son's outdoor toys. A very warm and friendly welcome awaits holiday makers at this cottage! The owners did everything possible to make it very enjoyable.

October 2011
The standard of the holiday cottage was excellent and it definitely lived up to the billing on the website.
October 2011
The cottage was very comfortable and had everything that we needed. It was well located and enabled us to explore the area. Thirsk was nearby with supermarkets and plenty of independent traders of all kinds. The owners were very welcoming and the little extra touches of milk, flowers, bottle of wine and fresh eggs from their hens were lovely. If there is one downside to wheelhouse cottage then it is that there is no view from the property as it is all ground floor.

May 2011
It is one of the best cottages we have ever hired and over the years we have hired many cottages from Sykes. This property was first class in every way - I would be a liar if I said it was any thing other than superb. We will be back. The little extra touches such as the wine, eggs and flowers were very good. We left a thank you card for the owners telling them of who much we enjoyed their holiday home. 11 out of 10! Well done Sykes Cottages for having this property on your books.
