We booked the cottage as our base for walking the Teesdale Way and it was just perfect - all the facilities we could ask for were provided and the owner (Doreen) was really helpful and at the same time unobtrusive leading to a great few days in a lovely part of the world.

Despite storm Dennis doing its best to get in through this barn conversion window frames, we found this cottage charming and spacious for us four. The toddlers loved racing around the round coffee table and the big kitchen window gave good light for colouring /rainy day play on the table. The beds were comfy and the house constantly warm. There is a utility room for tumble dryer not shown in advert. Courtyard self contained if u have a dog. Doreen was a great attentive host but could do to knock louder! ....When at the door in the pouring rain. Thanks for the eggs and choc biscuits x the children's bedroom feels like a castle with the window arrow slits!!
We had an amazing stay, the cottage was perfect and exceeded all our expectations x

No everything perfect
Westfield Cottage is a very good property, roomy and welcoming. We had 6 adults here and accommodation was more than sufficient.
Had a great time and also great to be able to let Scruff dog out knowing the area was gated and she could not get out. Spent her time looking out gate at the cows!
The charming and most helpful owners helped us to have a perfect stay at extremely short notice. The good sized cottage accommodation allowed us all to enjoy being together as a family. It made our holiday.
Beautiful well maintained cottage in a lovely part of the country. A lovely and warm place to stay in the winter. The host was pleasant, welcoming and helpful. Would stay there again.
Great location for exploring - lots to see and do within about one and a half hour drive in any direction. Lots of walks around the area without having to travel anywhere. White Scar Caves highly recommenced as is Wensleydale cheese factory /gift shop.
Had a wonderful time , property , area and facilities very excellent standard , would definitely stay again. A big thank you to our hosts , wonderful people.
As I also booked Garden Cottage next door, both were well above our expectations and we thoroughly enjoyed our time spent there for our special celebrations in the village of Mickleton just less than a mile down the road. The owner was delightful!
3 bedroom cottage. Easy access to the Lake District and many villages, reservoirs and walks about the place. The owner we saw a couple of times, and was always very helpful. However she also left us alone to enjoy our holiday.
I would like to say how much we enjoyed our first Sykes holiday cottage - Westfield Cottage at Mickleton. The cottage was spotless, well equipped and in a beautiful area. Well placed for walks along the disused railway line just down the lane; nice flat walking for old bones like ours. Will definitely book this cottage again.
A wonderful location any we were welcomed on arrival and bid farewell on departure. We would certainly like to return.
It felt like home from home. A great deal of care had clearly been taken to make sure guests were comfortable and had everything they need.
Very nice cottage in a beautiful setting. Very nice landlady.
Great Location. Cottage was immaculate and well presented. We were 4 adults and a 3 year old child. We only had a weekend at the cottage, but it had everything we required even if we had stayed much longer. We'd love to return again one day. The owner was welcoming and available to us should we have needed anything. It really felt like a home from home.
A lovely, comfortable and warm cottage in a superb location. A very hospitable owner who welcomed us in person. Lovely comfortable beds, a kitchen table with room enough for six people to sit comfortably around for extended family meals and an absolutely superb level of cleanliness throughout the property. We loved it, and are already planning to visit the cottage again next autumn!
Comfortable cottage in beautiful surroundings.
Enjoyed the peace and quiet, lovely scenery and didn't have that far to travel anywhere. Highly recommended, lovely holiday and cottage
The cottage and location were beautiful. Ideally suited for getting out and about and within easy drive of main tourist attractions.
We took our three kids to this cottage for half-term. It was so cosy and had great accommodation.
We walked up and down the Tees Valley way and railway, doing most of the Cleveland Way between Cauldron Snout and Barnard Castle. It was great to walk from the door. High and Low Force are great as is the Bowes Museum with its silver mechanical swan. The local pubs (Rose in in Mickleton and Rose and Crown in Romaldkirk) were wonderful. What a wonderful off the track spot.
The hosts are very kind. We loved how quiet it was. We waited for clear nights for the amazing stars which was our only disappointment.
Absolutely fab cottage, warm and cosy with plenty of space for the five of us. Great views from the track and very quiet. Perfect spot for walking. Lovely local pubs. Helpful hosts too. The stars would have been amazing if the clouds had behaved!
Beautiful area; great walking from the property; just the right amount of access to the owner for queries.
My husband & I had a very enjoyable week at this cottage. It was very clean & the owner was very welcoming and gave us some lovely fresh eggs. The only downside was that the cottage was quite dark mainly due to the huge trees outside, apart from that it made a great base to explore this lovely part of the country.
Loved the location. Ideal for walks and close to towns and places to eat. Dog loved it too as he never got walked as much as when we were here.
Hope to go back here again
A great location for walking and a quiet holiday. We are looking forward to going back to this area and even this property.
We had a wounderful vaccation due to the great location and briliant cottage. The area had plenty to offer and all in all the best vaccation in a long time
We had a lovely week at Westfield Cottage. A great location and easy access to many places of interests - thank you!
The cottage was comfortable and clean and tidy. The owners were welcoming and friendly. There was ample information provided by way of leaflets as to local tourist information and it is a lovely part of the country with so much to do we weren't able to do it all! The owners very kindly brought round a 1/2 dozen fresh eggs which were lovely and my husband got a bit of fishing in.
The enclosed garden area was excellent for pets and children. Westfield Cottage is in a very peaceful location with no interference from the owners, unless we wanted help.
Owner very friendly but not intrusive. Cottage spot on, quite basic but everything we needed and clean and comfortable. Fishing, walks and village all without needing to get in the car. Unfortunately nearest dog friendly pub that did food had closed recently, other pub very friendly. Beautiful area, would definitely like to return.
The cottage was just right for us. Walks from property and information about the area excellent. Access to Middleton, which was great as the local village is an enjoyable walk. Fishing greatly enjoyed.
Piece and quiet, not a great mobile phone network. Easy to relax and warmer than when I came back up North! The people around town were all friendly which was nice.
Really loved the location, size, simplicity of the cottage. Would love to go back sometime.
Great location, nice local pubs!
The location was wonderful - away from the road and with plenty of walks immediately accessible in a beautiful scenic area. We were pleased to be able to take our dog with us too. Nice stone built cottage, and the owner was very friendly.
This was our second visit and the welcome we recieved was on both visits fantastic. We were made to feel at home straight away by the owners. The house was for us ideal lovely warm and cosy when we stayed in the Spring and so attractive in Summer. The location is perfect for walking or driving the many scenic routes on the doorstep. Plenty of places to eat from country pubs to restaurants and if the weather is bad several places of interest nearby to visit. The owners were great always willing to help but not intrusive. The best part of the stay for my wife was when Doreen during a busy lambing period somehow found the time to let her bottle feed a lamb, many thanks Doreen you made her day.Though we have already been twice we will hopefuly be returning this year.
Mr Mrs Smith
Comfortable, quiet cottage in good location with friendly and helpful owners. Good for walking and many things to do, see and visit. Shops and excellent pubs nearby. A get away from it all holiday.
The quiet surrounds and beautiful countryside with easy walks.
A very nice spacious cottage which was very clean.
This is the second time this year we have been to this property and it just gets better.
It was a lovely cottage in nice location, very quiet and relaxing. The owners were welcoming, helpful and friendly.
The peaceful location was an ideal area for walking the dog. Very convenient for visiting Northumberland and Cumbria.
The cottage was immaculate and very comfortable. Our host met us and made us feel very welcome. She even found the time in a busy lambing period to let my wife bottlefeed and hold the new born lambs. This was the best holiday we have had in this area. Highly recommended
We loved the freedom to play with the sheep in the owner's fields and the back garden was beautiful. We were in a secluded area, but close to many beautiful spots. Thanks for a great holiday!
Owners very friendly and welcoming, location of cottage ideal for visiting the Lake District or walking on the Dales. There are plenty of attractions locally, suited for children. A very quiet and peaceful setting.
Perfect location for a relaxing break!
The best 'Sykes' cottage yet!
Loved the cottage, lovely welcome from the owner including 6 fresh eggs! Peaceful location, excellent facilities.
The cottage was very comfortable and the walking was great.
As I regularly visit that area I would say that this by far is the best property I have stayed in, the setting was fantastic, quiet. The property was clean tidy everything that was required was there. I will be booking this cottage again.
Mr Mrs Plugge
The cottage was very comfortable; the views were great, beautiful walks and a very nice host.
We were really impressed by the cleanliness and comfort of Westfield Cottage. The effort made by the owner was obvious. We even had a lit Christmas tree in the lounge to complement the season. We shall certainly consider going back - hopefully in spring/summer to take advantage of the beautiful countryside.
The location is wonderfully "out of the way" and the host was perfect. The best of England.
Lovely area for walking; access to fishing a bonus; good, cheap bakery in Middleton-on-Tees.
The location is excellent, free of traffic and noise, and well placed for visits to surrounding countryside walks and local services in Middleton and Barnard Castle. Also interesting to be on a working farm. Well worth the rent.
The location is wonderfully out of the way and the host was perfect. The best of England.
