Self-Catering Reviews

Mr Bourne
October 2020
The small living room downstairs smelt very strongly of dogs.. The furnishings need updating, as the 2 seat sofa looks and feels old and the living room carpet could do with a clean and no longer looks anything like it does in the cottage pictures. The bath needs new enamel, and has become rough. Having stayed in a number of Sykes properties, this was the first time that we felt that a cottage was overpriced based on its limited space and facilities.

Holiday in staithes very good, the cottage bedrooms was clean and comfortable .... Holiday in staithes very good, the cottage bedrooms was clean and comfortable however the bathroom and kitchen was not clean or well maintained- with the covid 19 situation I would have expected it to be clean - visable dirt all over bathroom - not acceptable

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage - these comments are only about Sykes.. I appreciate things are difficult with staffing during Covid but actually for quite a while now I've been frustrated by the service from Sykes. I e mailed a few times before our holiday with queries and never received a reply and there are sometimes spelling errors in the listings and overall, it gives an unprofessional impression. Because you are such a huge company there is often little choice about who to book a cottage with but I will be aiming to look for smaller companies in the future, if possible, though realise I may have to book with you again if no alternative, who will give a better service.

This cottage is even smaller than it looks on the photos.. It is situated a long way from the car park which is up a extremely steep hill. There is another steep hill from the cottage down in to the harbour. It is not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties or disabled. There is a permit for parking in the car park but no information where to park which resulted in us and other people arriving home to fines of £60 and up to now we’ve had three. The cottage wasn’t very clean also.

My first visit to Staithes, the village has a friendly, relaxed, old fashioned feel.. The cottage is small, quiet and comfortable, on the edge of the old village, ideal for morning and evening walks when the day visitors have gone home. We enjoyed walking on the beach with our dog, finding fossils and walking along the cliff path from which one day we saw a minke whale.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Waycot.. Compact and cosy downstairs, the wood burner was perfect for the time of year. Beds were very comfortable. Milk and biscuits on arrival were much appreciated. Our 2 dogs had a great time. Tucked away in a quiet location in Staithes a much needed peaceful break was had by all. Many thanks.

Lovely cosy cottage suited to a couple for a romantic weekend away or with a small dog.. Would benefit with a shower as limited space in the bathroom but overall loved it. Xx

Quaint cottage.. Downstairs is very small. Upstairs bedrooms are lovely. The bath is hard to get out of, grab handles would help greatly. All in all Staithes is a fantastic place to visit. We are going again in September but staying at a different cottage.

My one improvement on a very cozy cottage would be to either make the bath more elderly friendly (a hand hold to ease egress) or remove bath and install a shower..

A wonderful, whimsical place to spend my birthday week. Small but just big enough to be cosy rather than cramped, this really was a perfect base camp to explore the Staithes area. Close to the beach, local pubs, shops and bus route, my Mum and I had a lovely time here and will happily come back! Highly recommended! :)

The Cottage was clean and tidy and has very comfortable beds also very warm & has a good sized bathroom. The downstairs layout didn't really work for us. It was difficult for 3 people to watch the tv because one person has to sit under the tv in a chair facing the wrong way. The dining was also difficult, the table and chairs are situated in the bay window however you can't sit down without having to pull the table and chairs out if you all want to be seated, so really was not usable. The kitchen is small and very narrow but has plenty of utensils and was well equipped. It was quite dark downstairs too, seems lighter upstairs. The location is good and there was a car park pass provided which was much appreciated. At the time of booking there was wifi but this was stopped a couple of weeks before we visited with no reduction. Owner left us milk and biscuits for our arrival which we thought was a lovely touch. Could recommend for a couple of days or so.

This was the cutest little cottage! The pictures and description were accurate. The owner of the property was very helpful. The beds and sofa were very comfortable and the bathtub was a great way to relax. The people in the town were very friendly and helpful. Convenient access to the Cleveland Way footpath and there are wonderful beaches in the area.
