Stayed for a week in the cottage is very well equipped with all you need. But on arrival the door step and around gave a very bad view thick in weeds and grass, the across the street is a derelict pub and some rough houses. In side the cleaning is not would you expect we spent an hour cleaning etc. The stairs are very steep and not good for children or older folk. The parking is very hit and miss on the street.Maryport and the around is very run down, but the coast line very lovely with large beaches, not area we will be returning too.
We had a brilliant week staying in Violet Cottage and enjoyed many walks with our 2 dogs.. The garden is a safe place for them to be in. The cottage was clean and well equipped and the milk and wine in the fridge were very welcome. We have already booked for 2021.
Mrs Beal, September 2020
The house is really well thought out and decorated throughout with everything you need.. The kitchen is well equipped and having a washer and dryer was really helpful because it rained a lot! The garden was lovely but we couldn't make use of it because of the weather. We tended to use the back door in and out of the house as the front door opens into the lounge and with so much wet weather we didn't want to trail ourselves and wet dogs through there. As others have said the stairs are steep - but you'd expect that in this sort of property. The neighbours on both sides were very nice and the owners very helpful (There was a major road closure while we were there and they texted to see if we needed advice about for travelling). We didn't find it noisy at all at night. Dearham itself unfortunately is a bit dreary (and the lounge looks out onto an empty house over the road so no nice views) but Maryport is very close and had all the necessary amenities and a lovely park area to walk the dogs. The house is well situated to explore the surrounding areas and we particularly liked Allonby. All in all I would highly recommend this property if you are planning to visit the area and be out and about a lot. It's a great place to come back to at the end of the day. It is however small and compact and I probably wouldn't recommend it for 4 adults - I'd say it's more suited to 2 adults or a family with children.
Ms Skillen, July 2020
The only reason I wouldn't book again is I try not to go to the same place twice..
Mr Mahl, February 2020
The cottage was lovely and comfortable with everything needed for a pleasant stay.. It has a dishwasher, washer and dryer. Please note the bathroom is on the ground floor and the stairs are quite steep.
Not far from shops at Maryport and the beach at Allonby. There is also a Spar within the petrol station on the main road close by.
Stayed there for 4wks it's a lovely cosy home very clean the cottage is in dearham maryport .if you like walking it good and dog friendly .the owner Jim is Brill really nice guy if you have any problems phone him he'll come round straight away. The house as bathroom downstairs (not a problem),as sky tv wifi back garden good size overlooks field sometimes as sheep in you need car to get about if you want to visit places and supermarkets in 10 mins parking at front not bad .the road st front a bit busy and theirs a bus stop nxt to house note bus stops at five every day the pub is fine my hubby been in a couple of times ,oh the cottage pie shop round corner it yum yum you got to try it when you come ere.
Ms Chapman, December 2019
Lovely cosy cottage.. Outside temperature was well below freezing but cottage was comfy and warm, with log stove really good. Well equipped, welcoming wine and milk. The village is largely industrial, but within a quarter of an hour were coastal and inland towns we had never been to and which we found really good, and of course access to the Lakes proper was also ten minutes by car. We had a really good December break, and found local people friendly and helpful.
Mr Metcalfe, November 2019
The owner Jim was really good if you need anything or any problems phone him up and he'll come round straight away.. There is a bus stop outside house .so you can use it but the bus stops at 5pm .the local pub as sky sports if you want to watch any sports.there is sky tv in property but no sports.the bathroom is downstairs but that a problem the bed soooooo comfy the garden is a good size,go to the cottage pie shop its yummy ,if you need to use printer you can go library 10mins in car as supermarket asda, morrisons, tesco,oh kfc,10 mins in car and good for walks and house.is dog friendly.paula from Manchester
The house was spotless, it had everything you could want for a short holiday, it was well laid out and very manageable.. An absolutely perfect base to explore this area of Cumbria ( keep your eyes open for all brilliant shortcuts on the back roads out of Dearham) The garden did have a right of way access for the neighbor but he was hardly seen over the two weeks in which I stayed. This house is what it says it is, a common house in a common street in a very friendly working class village and it was perfect for this London Doctor. It was not too noisy and there was always free parking right outside the front door. You can walk in under 1min to a great unchanged local bar and a fantastic pie/bread/cake shop. Maryport beach is 5mins down the road by car with all the big shops and lots to see and do. Highly recommended if you need a small, reasonably priced holiday.
First class cottage and owners, look forwards to returning
The owners of the cottage were exceptionally helpful - outstanding in fact..
We were 'heir hunting' so this lovely cottage was a brilliant base for us.. We were able to cover miles in all directions and come back easily to a comfy base where all expectations were exceeded.
The thought that had gone into the presentation of the cottage was brilliant. Very well equipped, clean and warm, with extra blankets should we have needed (we were in the middle of a heat wave though). Very good value for money.
What more can I say - except we will be back for another session soon!!
Great little cottage.. Bottle of wine and milk waiting for us. Landlord very caring and couldn’t do enough, and only a phone call away. Basically it did exactly what it said on the tin.
The cottage was so cosy and comfy.. clean and we were given a lovely bottle of wine with milk. tea and coffee. The area is pleasant and only 2 miles from Maryport which was great for that early morning walk with the dogs.
would recommend the cottage.
Lovely cottage, comfortable and warm.. Wine and milk on arrival a really nice touch! Easy to travel to see all the beautiful sights of the area.
We have experienced some problems with our usual cottage booking company but I am pleased to say that this booking was very positive.. The information received from Sykes exceeded my expectations. The only downside is the price for Christmas, I will not book for that time again as it is poor value for money.
Lovely cottage.. Well equipped with decent garden to let the dogs out. Would come back again and recommend to others
We had a lovely stay here while visiting the lakes. This cottage provides everything that you need, is clean and welcoming. The addition of some milk and a welcome bottle of wine were great.
Very well equipped with a lovely touch that all accessories matched making it feel homely.. Fantastic having bath sheets instead of small bath towels.
Great place to stay when visiting West Cumbria as lots of great places on doorstep
Fantastic break in a lovely cottage.. Close to Maryport beach that is lovely in the evenings.
Would highly recommend this to my friends and family.
Miss Schlosser, January 2017

Mr Popowicz, December 2016
A beautiful cottage, very cosy, many home from home facilities would highly recommend a visit.. We just feel that we would like to book a property a little nearer a busier village/ town. The local people were extremely friendly. The Bakery food was fabulous. The owners of the pub The Sun Inn were very welcoming!
Mrs Rennie, October 2016
Lovely comfortable cottage on the edge of the Lake District within easy reach of all popular lake district locations..
Lovely warm welcome. Property clean and tidy. The property had everything you could possibly need. The welcome gifts were a nice touch. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends and family.
Mrs Watson, October 2016
Only down point was having to drive when eating out
A lovely cottage which was nicely put together. We enjoyed ourselves very much and would go again or recommend to friends or family.

The cottage was fantastic; well located and suitably furnished with amenities.. It was lovely and clean and we can't wait to go back.
The cottage was very comfortable and well furnished. There was a local shop within walking distance and other facilities nearby. The cottage was ideal for exploring this somewhat overlooked but fascinating corner of England, as well as the more popular area of the northern Lakes.

On arrival at the property we felt like we were home.. I would definitely recommend this cottage, it is in a very friendly village.
Inside the extended and refurbished interior was charming, bright and cosy. The garden was neat and a good size, with views over fields. The neighbours were welcoming and the owners have made sure you have everything you need, from egg cups to a washing machine. The beds were comfy and everywhere was spotlessly clean! We found everywhere to be within east reach - Maryport, though not 'pretty pretty' had a lovely little tourist centre, cafe, aquarium, marina and the Lord Nelson pub which is fab. Cockermouth is really nice. We preferred it to the tourist centres like Keswick which is also in easy reach. Buttermere is close, and by far the most beautiful lake we saw. The Coast and castles are also nearby. A very reasonable price for a lovely cottage. We'll go again, highly recommended! Thanks.
