This is a lovely, comfortable, traditional cottage, very well equipped with washing machine, dryer, and everything you would need in the kitchen. It's very well located near to Allonby and the beach, Maryport, Cockermouth, and surrounding areas for walks. On arrival we found it to be clean and tidy, no issues there. And there was never an issue parking near the house on the street. My wife and I had a lovely time here and would be happy to come back. The Dovenby Ship pub is nearby and food there is good and loads of it! Jenny and Jim, the owners, are lovely people and do anything to help you for example, the TV remote broke whilst we were there and Jim replaced it same day.

Stayed for a week in the cottage is very well equipped with all you need. But on arrival the door step and around gave a very bad view thick in weeds and grass, the across the street is a derelict pub and some rough houses. In side the cleaning is not would you expect we spent an hour cleaning etc. The stairs are very steep and not good for children or older folk. The parking is very hit and miss on the street.Maryport and the around is very run down, but the coast line very lovely with large beaches, not area we will be returning too.

We had a brilliant week staying in Violet Cottage and enjoyed many walks with our 2 dogs.. The garden is a safe place for them to be in. The cottage was clean and well equipped and the milk and wine in the fridge were very welcome. We have already booked for 2021.

The house is really well thought out and decorated throughout with everything you need.. The kitchen is well equipped and having a washer and dryer was really helpful because it rained a lot! The garden was lovely but we couldn't make use of it because of the weather. We tended to use the back door in and out of the house as the front door opens into the lounge and with so much wet weather we didn't want to trail ourselves and wet dogs through there. As others have said the stairs are steep - but you'd expect that in this sort of property. The neighbours on both sides were very nice and the owners very helpful (There was a major road closure while we were there and they texted to see if we needed advice about for travelling). We didn't find it noisy at all at night. Dearham itself unfortunately is a bit dreary (and the lounge looks out onto an empty house over the road so no nice views) but Maryport is very close and had all the necessary amenities and a lovely park area to walk the dogs. The house is well situated to explore the surrounding areas and we particularly liked Allonby. All in all I would highly recommend this property if you are planning to visit the area and be out and about a lot. It's a great place to come back to at the end of the day. It is however small and compact and I probably wouldn't recommend it for 4 adults - I'd say it's more suited to 2 adults or a family with children.

The only reason I wouldn't book again is I try not to go to the same place twice..

The cottage was lovely and comfortable with everything needed for a pleasant stay.. It has a dishwasher, washer and dryer. Please note the bathroom is on the ground floor and the stairs are quite steep.
Not far from shops at Maryport and the beach at Allonby. There is also a Spar within the petrol station on the main road close by.

Lovely cosy cottage.. Outside temperature was well below freezing but cottage was comfy and warm, with log stove really good. Well equipped, welcoming wine and milk. The village is largely industrial, but within a quarter of an hour were coastal and inland towns we had never been to and which we found really good, and of course access to the Lakes proper was also ten minutes by car. We had a really good December break, and found local people friendly and helpful.

The house was spotless, it had everything you could want for a short holiday, it was well laid out and very manageable.. An absolutely perfect base to explore this area of Cumbria ( keep your eyes open for all brilliant shortcuts on the back roads out of Dearham) The garden did have a right of way access for the neighbor but he was hardly seen over the two weeks in which I stayed. This house is what it says it is, a common house in a common street in a very friendly working class village and it was perfect for this London Doctor. It was not too noisy and there was always free parking right outside the front door. You can walk in under 1min to a great unchanged local bar and a fantastic pie/bread/cake shop. Maryport beach is 5mins down the road by car with all the big shops and lots to see and do. Highly recommended if you need a small, reasonably priced holiday.

We were 'heir hunting' so this lovely cottage was a brilliant base for us.. We were able to cover miles in all directions and come back easily to a comfy base where all expectations were exceeded.
The thought that had gone into the presentation of the cottage was brilliant. Very well equipped, clean and warm, with extra blankets should we have needed (we were in the middle of a heat wave though). Very good value for money.
What more can I say - except we will be back for another session soon!!

We have experienced some problems with our usual cottage booking company but I am pleased to say that this booking was very positive.. The information received from Sykes exceeded my expectations. The only downside is the price for Christmas, I will not book for that time again as it is poor value for money.

A beautiful cottage, very cosy, many home from home facilities would highly recommend a visit.. We just feel that we would like to book a property a little nearer a busier village/ town. The local people were extremely friendly. The Bakery food was fabulous. The owners of the pub The Sun Inn were very welcoming!

The cottage was very comfortable and well furnished. There was a local shop within walking distance and other facilities nearby. The cottage was ideal for exploring this somewhat overlooked but fascinating corner of England, as well as the more popular area of the northern Lakes.

Inside the extended and refurbished interior was charming, bright and cosy. The garden was neat and a good size, with views over fields. The neighbours were welcoming and the owners have made sure you have everything you need, from egg cups to a washing machine. The beds were comfy and everywhere was spotlessly clean! We found everywhere to be within east reach - Maryport, though not 'pretty pretty' had a lovely little tourist centre, cafe, aquarium, marina and the Lord Nelson pub which is fab. Cockermouth is really nice. We preferred it to the tourist centres like Keswick which is also in easy reach. Buttermere is close, and by far the most beautiful lake we saw. The Coast and castles are also nearby. A very reasonable price for a lovely cottage. We'll go again, highly recommended! Thanks.
