Holiday home
Thistle Dubh is a detached wooden lodge situated in the Barend Holiday Village, two miles from Colvend in Dumfries & Galloway. This cottage sleeps five people in three bedrooms, consisting of one double with en-suite shower, a zip/link double with basin and WC and a ground floor single, as well as a ground floor wetroom. The cottage also has a kitchen with breakfast area and a sitting room with dining area and electric fire. Thistle Dubh is an ideal base for a family or group of friends who wish to explore the area on foot or by bike, or who would like to enjoy the beaches and golf courses that can be found nearby.

Three bedrooms: 1 x double with Smart TV and en-suite shower, basin and WC, 1 x double (zip/link, can be twin on request) with Smart TV, basin and WC, 1 x ground floor single with . Ground floor wet room with shower, basin and WC. Kitchen with breakfast area (seats 2). Sitting room with dining area and electric fire.

Area
The village of Colvend offers a shop, a Post Office, a restaurant, a pottery shop and a farm shop. The coastline around the village is known as for its many rugged cliffs and secret bays, plus there are a number of walks, cycle routes and golf courses in the area.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Note: Open loch on-site, please ensure children and dogs are supervised. Note: Swimming pool on-site is not available for use by guests. Please Note: Electric cars must be charged at designated charging points in the area. There are currently no electric charging points on the site.

It was a real treat to visit this lovely holiday home again on such a clean, tidy and well organised site.. We were able to take a breath and appreciate the beautiful scenery, the wildlife and the general tranquility of the place. Much needed in these difficult times. The lodge was its usual high standard of cleanliness, equipment and facilities, a credit to the owners. We took all the food we thought we needed, but were able to top up at the nearby village without any problems. Also managed to get coffee and cake at Rockcliffe and Kipford on our many walks. We received an email in good time before we went giving us all the information we needed to stay safe and well.

This is the most well equipped, lovely chalet we’ve been to. Child and dog friendly. A real home from home. Cosy and set in a gorgeous location. Stone throw from a beautiful beach. Kitted out with everything you could need. Thistle Dubh is a real find and we will definitely be coming back. We would highly recommend. Truly five star! (2 adult 2 young children 5 and 5).

We stayed here Christmas 2018 from the moment we all walked in it was magical. We loved every moment. We had a lovely relaxing Christmas the lodge was cozy and beautiful. Lots to do around. Christmas decorations and everything even treats for our dogs thankyou for a magical xmas

Being a busy mother of two, I was scrolling the internet looking for a place to hide away for a week, seeking peace and quiet to finish my studies. I couldn't have dreamt of a better place to go. Being on my own, i felt completely safe in the lodge and enjoyed some beautiful walks to the nearby beach. I spent most of my days in the lodge and occasionally ate at the site restaurant - I couldn't have felt more comfortable. From the beautiful white linen bedsheets and towels, to the thoughtful collective of books and DVDS, to the extensive cooking equipment and gorgeous candles, I felt truly at home. Thank you for such a meaningful and wonderful stay - the owners have really made the effort to make Thistle Dubh feel like a home away from home

The lodge was fantastic and the area was so peaceful, it was only a 5 minute walk to the beach, which was a lovely walk. Also really enjoyed walking around the loch every day with the dogs. Contact with the owner was good and it was a very dog friendly area which we liked. We would definitely go back again and definitely to this lodge which we loved.

Fantastic accommodation in an idyllic location - very family friendly. It was exceptionally clean and had all we needed. The beds were so comfortable, it was a disappointment to return home to our own! The location to the beach is ideal - just a short walk, 4-5 mins at the most.

We loved everything about the holiday. The lodge, surroundings, weather..we had an absolutely fantastic time. We were in need of a relaxing holiday, which is what we got, peace and quiet when needed. The lake and beach were close at hand and the fact we could take our dog was great, even in the bar, the staff were friendly. Overall a fantastic time, would certainly go back!

We found Thistle Dubh to be a well equipped lodge in beautiful surroundings. There were plenty of walks from the door and gorgeous scenery. It was a well maintained site set in a peaceful location. A great mixture of woodlands, beaches and small towns to explore. Most of which were dog friendly too.
