The Townhouse Self-Catering

Holiday home
The Townhouse is a sympathetically restored and renovated Georgian townhouse dating from 1801 which can sleep eight people in two king-size doubles, one with en-suite, a single with child's pull out stacker bed and an adult bunks room. There is a family bathroom. The rest of the property contains a kitchen with dining area, utility room, a sitting room and a conservatory. To the outside there is roadside parking for three cars and a small south-facing rear patio with furniture and barbecue. The Townhouse is a ideal base for families and friends to explore this lovely region of Scotland.

This historic town of Kirkcudbright is situated on the north Solway Shore on the banks of the tidal waters of the River Dee. Kirkudbright's harbour is still active today, and the fishing trade has always supported the town. The picturesque town centre is characterised by wide streets and pretty pastel coloured houses, as well as the fascinating ruined McLellan's Castle. Historical attractions worth a visit include the Stewartry Museum and its permanent exhibition of objects representing the history of life on the Solway coast. Known as the artists' town since the late nineteenth century and a wonderful selection of art galleries, crafts, and antique shops still thrive here today.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Gas central heating. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, TV with Freeview, DVD/CD, WiFi, selection of books and DVDs. Fuel and power inc. in rent. Kirkcubright was an interesting base, being an artists town and The Townhouse in Union Street was central with easy parking and a real home from home..

As before, everything from the Sykes end went very smoothly.. I rang the owner's number listed to sort out the keys but my call was declined - I followed up with a text which did result in an email promising details which were then sent the next day. We got there in the end! We could have emailed directly if that had been the instruction. We were also asked by the owners to provide information about the booking which we had already given to Sykes as part of the booking process. Surely they must have had that already? Anyway the cottage is lovely - comfortable, well-equipped and spotless. I would hesitate to book it again if the weather were cooler because the huge windows make the living room cold. The heating is effective but it is not possible to alter the time settings. If the open fire in the living room was in a usable state, this wouldn't be an issue.

We had a wonderful family holiday in The Townhouse.. The Townhouse was a great base for us while exploring Kirkcudbright and the surrounding area. It had all that we needed for our stay. I would highly reccomend both The Townhouse and Sykes to anyone looking to holiday in Scotland.

We stayed at Townhouse for 3 nights over Mother's Day weekend and a great time was had by all, with no faults whatsoever with our choice of accommodation The house was like home from home with all the provisions that were needed.. It was so very clean, warm and very comfortable. We would love to go back and have the same Weekend over again. Whilst at Townhouse we sampled an evening meal at the local Selkirk Arms which we recommend, and also afternoon tea as a Mother’s Day treat at the Cally Palace In nearby Gatehouse of Fleet. Castle Douglas is also nearby and is worth a trip for lovely independent shops. Kirkcudbright itself has lovely shops, walks and scenery. We highly recommend a trip to Townhouse.
