Mr Shrimpton
April 2019
No wifi, which wasn't stated at any point in the listing.. If we had realised this in advance we would have booked somewhere else.
There is also no washing machine, which is mentioned but is not obvious. Unlike AirBnB, Sykes is not very clear about which features are not present in the accommodation before you book.
We also generally would expect to have to buy one or two of the essentials in your average holiday cottage. But not all of them. There was no oil, no salt, no tea, no coffee, no soap, no dish-washing liquid, no bin bags apart from one in the bin and not enough toilet paper for more than a few days. The only things in the cupboard were some pepper, some green tea and some oregano. We also had to buy tea towels because there was only one and it didn't have enough time to dry in between meals.
There were no helpful tips or recommendations other than a collection of random tourist leaflets. Most places we have stayed have had a small folder with the nearest supermarkets, worthwhile restaurants and takeaways etc. This had nothing, which would have been okay if it wasn't for the fact there was no WiFi to look it up...
The oven settings were also tricky to figure out because it used different symbols to the usual, and there was no guide, so we thought it was broken at first.
It's a shame, because it's a lovely cottage and could have been really nice (although probably not the best for those with infants as the travel cot has no mattress and there isn't really enough space for them to crawl) if it had been properly equipped with the various necessities.
