Area
Conwy is an historic town and has been declared a World Heritage Site in recognition of its architecture and other links with the past. The town is most renowned for its medieval castle and town walls that are almost complete, both of which offer fantastic views of Snowdonia and the estuary of the River Conwy. Today Conwy is a bustling town that caters for both tourists and the local community. Ancient buildings sit comfortably among more recent properties and there is an abundance of places to visit. Top of the list is the Castle, but there are many more, including Plas Mawr, an architectural gem and said to be the finest surviving Elizabethan townhouse to be found anywhere in Britain. Towards the quayside you will find Aberconwy House a 14th Century merchant's house believed to be the oldest townhouse in Wales. It has been carefully restored to reflect the daily life of its residents over time. On the quayside you may enter the smallest house in Britain or visit the Aquarium and Conwy mussel museum. Take a boat trip on the river and see the Great Orme, or sail upriver to see the full beauty of the Conwy Estuary and the Conwy Valley.

Had a brilliant week's stay here. Peace and Tranquility. No noise just sheep birds and cows. Beautifully remote. Very well equipped cottage and a welcoming host. The front door is very low and the beams at the top of the narrow stairs difficult to negotiate for the older traveller however if you remember to duck it was OK. The dog enjoyed the outside space as we did relaxing in the sun in the outside space on the loungers provided

We have just spent a week at this lovely cottage. It was very well equipped and we had everything we needed. Great attention to detail. Very cosy especially with the log burner. The garden is sooo quite, with stunning views. Very peaceful location and within an hour of all the popular sites of North Wales. The owners were very welcoming.

We had the most relaxing & blissfully quiet time with our 2 dogs, good walks on the nearby beach, excellent places to visit within easy reach. Quiet, unspoilt, peaceful, just perfect! could not be more highly recommended. Property was idyllic, very cosy, and the private field just outside the door was a big hit with "furry babes" The owners were very helpful, loads of local knowledge, wood pit was excellent for the evenings to enjoy the setting, so a big thanks!. 10/10 we will go back, Kevin

Beautiful cottage in an ideal location for exploring north Wales.. Owners were helpful and only a phone call away if we needed them.

September 2020
The Shippon was brilliant, in a beautiful setting and within easy reach of any amenities we required.. The evenings were special with the woodburner lite and the lights turned down and just music playing. It had all you needed to stay very comfortable in all types of weather conditions, the sheep in the garden each morning was an extra bonus, in just watching them going about there morning breakfast. Excellent position for touring around North Wales, would go back any time.

Lovely Christmas break at this tranquil cottage.. Conwy is 5 mins away and a beautiful village. The cottage was lovely and warm on arrival and even had a bottle of white from their vines. Hosts were lovely and even met Dougie the dog. Cottage is very well equipped and the bed was so comfy. Roaring fire each night and just a lovely location. Perfect chilled place!

The cottage is quaint, quirky, cute, cosy and nicely isolated but only 2.. 3 miles from Conwyn, Andrew (the owner) was very helpful. It is an ideal location for dogs. I felt a picture of the stairs to the bedroom should be included in the description. They are a challenge.

The WiFi was very poor, I accept that this is probably due to the rural nature of the area but feel that it would have been better not advertised.. Also the steps up to the bedroom are very steep, again j think this should have been highlighted. If we had realised this we wouldn’t have booked it, even tho we enjoyed our stay The owner was very pleasant and helpful, it is ideal for a romantic hideaway for young couples but not for creaking pensioners like us

We loved the accommodation.. The owners were friendly and the location perfect. We were however informed that we had paid for 7 nights by the owners who wondered why we were only staying until Tuesday. We thought we had paid for 3 nights, selecting 3 in the menu. I am dissapointed to know that Sykes charged us for the full week when it clearly stated we were to check out after 3. There should be a lower price surely for less nights and we were under the impression that this would be the case. If not it should clearly state it. The owners kindly offered us the Shippon for the full week but we had not packed for this etc. but did stay an extra night. Therefore we feel that we are out of pocket for 3 nights that we did not know we had bought.

February 2019
When we arrived at the start of February, during one of the colder spells of the winter, we found the cottage to be very cold due to the fact that the previous rental had been 5 weeks earlier over Christmas.. The building itself is an old building with very thick walls so took a couple of days to warm up properly. The central heating itself was unfortunately not set quite right but the owners who were to hand immediately got this sorted and the logs and coal supplied certainly got the property warmed up during the second and subsequent days. The cottage ended up being a lovely a cosy place to spend time. The property was a great place to be, the owners incredibly helpful and the area a wonderful place to explore. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful holiday at the Shippon.. We were made very welcome as were our dogs. It is in a beautiful secluded place surrounded by hills but within 5/10 minutes of Conwy. There are plenty of places within easy reach to visit and a number of places providing excellent food. The cottage is comfortably furnished with everything you require for your stay. Just a comment - if you are very tall you have to watch your head against the beams. This is a perfect place for a quiet getaway.

A unique cottage that is rarely found. Perfect for 2 people and our dog was welcome as everywhere. In 10 minutes you are at the mighty city wall and the mighty castle of Conwy. Many thanks to the family of this dreamlike property.

The Shippon is a small cosy cottage full of character.. Superb location accessed along a small very narrow lane which can be challenging at times. The owners are very welcoming and are on hand to assist with any queries either regarding the cottage or the local area. Great area for walking, mountain biking, sight seeing and the beach. Dogs are very welcome with good walks from the door step. The cottage is well equipped, clean and comfortable. The bedroom is on a mezzanine floor accessed by a short flight of narrow and quite steep steps which could be a challenge for anyone with mobility issues. All in all, a super cottage set in a tranquil area overlooking countryside.

The owners Andrew and Sarhra were nice and very polite, we had a lovely quite and relaxing time at the cottage with our dogs.. The only downside was the steepness of the stairs to the bed area( not shown in any pictures). However, this did not stop us from enjoying the holiday in this quant cottage, the bathroom was spotless as was the kitchen and the rest of the rooms. A perfect time was had by all. Thanks you!

I couldn't recommend The Shippon more highly.. We had such a relaxing time with no noise except for the bleating of the lambs! Andrew was a really generous host and we loved the use of the woodshed for the firepit and the woodburner! Great location for exploring the beautiful countryside and we had terrific fun at Surf Snowdonia, Anglesey equestrian centre and Conwy golf club. We also enjoyed our visits from Dougie the dog!!

March 2018
Had a lovely break at the Shippon.. Beautiful, peaceful location. It was bitterly cold on the first night with snow overnight. We used a lot of logs on the stove and got the cottage nice and cosy. Forty five minute walk into Conwy and close to Bodnant gardens and Llandudno. Sarah was very helpful and quick to respond to sort a couple of things out.

A wonderfully peaceful stay at The Shippon, a picturesque cottage in amazing countryside. With sheep grazing in a nearby field, swallows flying low overhead and swooping into the barn next door and bees buzzing round the geraniums and lavender in the flower garden just outside the cottage we had a truly relaxing getaway. The cottage was well-appointed, clean and comfortable, with lots of books, games and guides to the local area, and the owners on hand to help if needed (home-grown veg was lovely!) Highly recommended for a relaxing stay in a beautiful corner of north Wales.

June 2017
So our first visit to The Shippon and what a treat beautiful and so so peaceful. Our work is demanding and yet despite months of hard work and a five plus hour drive to get there (don't ask) as soon as we arrived chill relax and the Shippon effect. In all my travels I have never been so chilled out sitting in the garden with amazing views birdsong and sheep WOW A big log burner took more of our attention than any tv programme. A really comfy bed meant really restful night's. Not the best weather on our visit but it's Wales wet in the morning lovely in the afternoon lots to do within a short drive and none of it over priced a big Tesco nearby for essential supplies. The ultimate accolade is that we have booked again already and cannot wait to return we will be regular visitors. The owners Andrew and Sarah are lovely there if you need them but not intrusive. For those people that complain about low beams in their reviews learn to duck if not laugh it off it's your fault not the building.

April 2015
This is a very appealing and comfortable rustic accommodation. It has charm and makes you feel very relaxed. It is well equipped and comfortable. It has a homely, individual feel. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The open plan living lends itself well. only slight draw back would be the number of low beams which I managed to hit with my head several times! Other than that a pretty perfect place to escape the world and enjoy the countryside. Would definitely go again!

April 2015
Loved the cottage and the location! The fire was exceptionally nice. The bed very comfy and the sounds of the countryside, devine! Especially for us Londoners. Supplies were a bit frugal. For instance when we arrived there was a basket not quite full of wood and not much kindling but we were asked to pay £5 for an 'extra' basket of wood. An empty black pepper container was in the cupboard and there were no clips or elastic bands which are really handy for keeping one's food fresh. We were going to have a BBQ but it was filthy so we fried our steaks instead. Having said this....we would go back! Because of the location, the lovely cottage and the owners were friendly but not intrusive. It is true what everyone else has been saying about the beams! Mind your head! My partner and I are both only 5'5" and we found them a little low ( he hit his head 4 or 5 times and it was painful! ) we joked that they should call it Hobbit House. I would suggest that the owners provide: more wood and kindling on arrival; look into getting a couple of beam cushions for those low beams; provide a list of what cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils there are so that we can bring our own of whatever we find useful that the cottage may not have. Another cottage we visited does this and it's a brilliant idea. And chuck that BBQ for a new one ( and ask people to clean the BBQ after themselves! ) These niggly things are the only reason we give it 4 stars instead of 5.

March 2015
Very welcoming and friendly owners. It was perfectly isolated to get away from it all but near enough to town when needed. Had a big field to exercise the dog in. Bliss.

March 2015
The cottage was just delightful, thoughtfully decorated and set up, cosy and homely. The huge wood burner was a real treat! And the bed, oh my god I didn't want to leave it! The owners were excellent - friendly and helpful but not intrusive. There was a well thought out collection of films and games and plenty of info on local attractions. We were VERY happy there.

November 2014
We had a lovely stay at the Shippon. The owners were excellent hosts. We especially appreciated how pet friendly they were and they took extra time to provide information on pet-friendly establishments in the area. Our dogs really enjoyed the property as well. The furnishings have been upgraded since the website pictures were taken, so it was even better than expected.

October 2014
The cottage was clean and cosy, quite small but perfectly adequate for 2 people. The owner met us on arrival and was very friendly, and even lent us a book on local archaeology, but then left us alone and was not at all intrusive. The kitchen is small but has everything you need. A large basket of logs and coal were provided for the fire, which was set ready for lighting when we arrived. However, the cottage was warm and cosy and we only used the fire once. The site was quiet and peaceful, and made a good base for exploring Snowdonia. Conwy with local amedities is only a short drive away and there are many walks you can do from the doorstep. The narrow lanes leading to the property were not a problem. We were allowed to use the field outside the cottage which was great for our 2 dogs. The resident dog was very friendly and came to visit a few times. The only negatives were the low entrance door, and steep stairs under low beams going up to the mezzanine bedroom. Not a problem for me but my 6'2'' husband banged his head a few times. The cottage wouldn't be suitable for anyone with mobility problems, but is great providing you don't mind ducking your head in some areas. We would definitely visit again.

Lovely small cottage, took some locating, really off the beaten track. quite close to the owners property, but still secluded. lovely locationapprox' 2+ miles out of Conway itself, a good location for either staying there and enjoying the seclusion, exploring the sites around North Wales; Conway, Llandudno, Bodnant Gardens, all of Anglesey, Great. Even though the weather was mixed, still very enjoyable. Property owners very helpful, on hand if you needed information or help. Recommended. Mr & Mrs Trusselle, Wolverhampton West Midlands.

The cottage is in a beautiful quiet location but close to lots of local attractions. Helpful and friendly owners. Perfect for a relaxing retreat for two to get away from it all no matter what time of year.

The barn was the peaceful, romantic, cosy retreat in a rural setting that we wanted. Close to the Snowdonia national park, which was essential and great owners next door; they were very helpful and we could buy more logs from them!

Excellent, cosy and romantic hideaway which is nestled in a perfect spot - not too far from the beaten track but isolated enough for that total break. It's on the very edge of Snowdonia National Park/Gwydyr Forest etc. which are beyond description. Just pack your walking boots and go there! Second visit in under six months - I don't need to say any more!

We liked the peace and tranquility and being left to our own devices. There were nice walks, a lovely log burner and fresh country air. Lovely little tea rooms not far away in Conwy Town. A great place for dog owners to take their pets.

The location of the property was excellent - fantastic large but enclosed garden was ideal for our two dogs. Also very private setting. The Shippon was a very cosy and relaxing place to stay - warm and comfortable and with everything we needed for our favourite type of holiday (walks, scenery and dog friendly). We really enjoyed our stay.

Well appointed cottage in large grounds. Lots of wildlife - resident Robin, rabbits and Buzzards. Excellent views from Patio. Good walking within easy reach. The log burning stove is excellent, sadly only one cold night. Second visit, wont be last.
