The Shed is a stone and brick built detached barn conversion, set on a working beef and sheep farm on the edge of the village of Coxhoe just six 6 miles from Durham. Boasting four bedrooms (three with en-suite facilities) and a family bathroom, this cottage can sleep up to eight people in style. The rest of the accommodation includes a fitted kitchen, a dining room with a snug and a sitting room. Outside the cottage are a patio and garden with outdoor furniture and barbecue, as well as plenty of off road parking. Situated close to major roads, The Shed is an ideal base for discovering this fascinating part of the country.

The village of Coxhoe is six miles from Durham. There are pubs and shops within the village, which is in an ideal location for exploring the beauty of the north east of England,with the coast 17 miles away and the moors 23 miles away. There are lots of visitor attractions in the area, such as Durham Cathedral and Castle and Beamish Open Air Museum.

Even thought The Shed is located in Coxhoe, once that front door is closed, you would think you were in the countryside somewhere. The photos do not do this property justice. This was my 3rd visit and always attend with a group of girl friends. Hot tub was well used. We all loved it. Kitchen has everything you would need plus an added feature of a coffee machine. All bedrooms are well presented with spotlessly clean bedding. 4 bathrooms/shower room for each bedroom, so no waiting in a queue. Large lounge area so we were not sat on top of each other. Plenty of space to entertain. Dining room attached to the kitchen with a large table for us all to enjoy a meal together. Looking forward to having our weekend girly trip again. Just what we all needed. Perfection

The accommodation was extremely good ideal for our party of 8.. It's location was ideal for touring the North East being well connected to all routes.I would recommend the accommodation to anyone. The only improvement i could recommend is an upgrade to the Wi-Fi provision which limits usage to the main living room only. Other than that we would book a second visit.

The Shed was a lovely property, with really good facilities.. There were two things which stopped me giving top marks for comfort: The wooden floor in the hall, approaching the living room is very, very creaky and was disturbing for anyone in bed, whilst others were still walking around. The second point was hidden dog poo, from the owners’ dogs, in the yard outside the cottage/ car parking area. This was partly concealed because of the fallen leaves. However, I don’t think there should be any dog poo lying around outside a holiday cottage. This problem led to us accidentally walking in the mess and, on one occasion, walking it into the car, necessitating extensive cleaning of car mats, shoes and throwing away a handbag! These points aside, we really enjoyed staying in the property and would consider doing so again, if the dog poo problem could be eliminated.

The cottage was great, it had everything you need(apart from a pizza wheel), felt like home from home.. There's a bit of road noise from the A1 but doesn't bother you while your inside x the beds were comfy . We have a great relaxing time ,thanks to the owners. Would definately go back .

The Shed is a great place to stay.. It has easy access to a host of different activities. There were 6 adults, 2 preschool children and one toddler in our group. The enclosed garden was great as the children had a free run. They also enjoyed seeing the animals in the farm yard. I would highly recommend this cottage for a large group.

Awesome cottage - spacious and very well equipped - the perfect place to relax with friends and visit the surrounding area.. We had hoped to have more interaction with the owners and see round the farm, so were surprised that they didn’t introduce themselves. We had a wonderful time in an extremely spacious comfortable property.. The children loved the animals and my 6 year old grandson who was afraid of dogs now wants one. Plenty of toys, games, football net in the garden. All the equipment you could need in the kitchen. Very rural but not far from shops and take a ways in Coxhoe. The only criticism is that cottage is not in the Yorkshire Dales but the Durham Countryside. Lots of places to visit, we went to Finchale Priory, Hamsterley Forest, South Shields, Seaton Carew, Durham City, The Angel of the North, Gateshead Saltwell Park as well as a family wedding.

We had a fantastic stay at The Shed with a large group of adults and two little ones. The property is enormous and still felt spacious when full to capacity. It is extremely well equipped with everything you could need, including a comfortable cot, high chair and some brilliant kids books. The hot tub was a nice bonus and worth paying a bit extra for. There is some traffic noise but we found we quickly got used to it. Would definitely recommend The Shed for big groups.

My partner and I booked 'The Shed' for our friends over New Years Eve. As you enter the house it has a lovely big kitchen with a very spacious dinning area. The living room area is massive with large comfortable sofas, a big plasma television, DVDs, Wii, games and books. The bedrooms are lovely, ranging from different sizes. The master bedroom is incredible with an ensuite bathroom, lovely bathrooms in the house too. The pictures are quite deceiving in regards to where it is, as I was sure it would be in the countryside but its just off the main road which is very loud and you can hear from the rooms at night. Unfortunately the hot tub was unavailable at this time, even though it wasn't being used by anybody else and the price was a lot more expensive than a normal week. The downstairs shower could be replaced as its like a dripping tap. Overall, amazing house!

we stayed here with family for my husbands 40th birthday, the place is amazing, you walk through and it just keeps getting better. My son (11) loved the just dance game that was in the provided wii. We all enjoyed the hot tub which we used every day, (need to book with proprietors separately)! My mother in law fell head over heels with the gorgeous farm dogs! And the excellently equipped kitchen was used to full advantage, when we cooked dinner Saturday night and then we all sat round the huge dining table for an amazing family meal. Only downside was no wifi and extremely rare phone reception!

Just got home from girly weekend at The Shed. It's a fabulous, spacious cottage situated on a working farm. We paid the supplement for the hot tub and it was worth every penny- very relaxing! The cottage is very spacious, every bedroom having it's own bathroom! Towels were supplied soft, fluffy and smelling gorgeous- better than most hotel towels I've used! Special attention paid to making this home from home - wii console/games, DVD player and DVDs plenty of books and magazines. I would definatly recommend staying here as well as dining out at The Old Mill where we were served a delicious Sunday lunch!!

This was one of the most comfortable homes I have had the pleasure to stay in. everything about the property is designed for your comfort. The lovely bed linen, the great bedroom sizes, the tv and all the little Extras such as books and videos etc. the attention to detail doesn't stop there, the fabulous cooker in the kitchen made me wish I could stay much much longer. I couldn't fault this property.

This very spacious rental suited us very well, we were a group of 8 of which 3 children aged 4 -6. Lots of space for kids to entertain themselves inside and out. Stylish interior design, nice sheets, towels, bedspreads etc. I appreciated the fact that it was mentioned that some motorway noise can be heard. The weather wasn't so good that we spent time sitting in the garden, so I don't know if the sound would have bothered us. We did have games and sports in the garden without even noticing the sound. Very friendly and helpful owners. Tips: the dishwasher is too small for 8 people and didn't clean very well. More sizeable pans would be good. The lighting inside on the groundfloor can be improved in the living room and in particular the dining area was either too dark or too bright. One last thing that would have made it even better for us: we only needed the house for 4 nights, frustrating to have to pay for the whole week.
