I booked 1710 cottage for short break with my husband and 13 year old daughter so that we could visit family in the nearby area. The cottage is just perfect and furnished to a really high standard . Loved the use of the log burner for the colder days We had And the sun trap of a beautiful garden on the sunnier days. The location is lovely and Secluded yet within easy reach Of Carlisle. We met The owner during our stay who was lovely and welcoming. She checked that we were enjoying our stay and that we had everything we needed and also provided us with lovely arrival treats . We will definitely be back

This cottage exceeded our expectations excellent location, dry clean well laid out even a jug of fresh milk and biscuits which was very welcome after a long drive.. Alisair and Anna were very accomodating. Beautiful part or the country, peaceful lots to do and see, the locals were also very friendly. Would definitely recommend the retreat and will be booking another visit 2019.

A warm, comfortable, homely, well furnished apartment in a lovely village.. It is close to a pub, a hotel with a spa and a restaurant; all worth going to. Lots of wonderful walks and there is still a railway station, so you can go to Carlisle and Newcastle by train. We are returning again in 6 weeks time.

As we had enjoyed our stay at The Retreat earlier in the year, we decided to book again when we wanted to visit the area in November.. We were encouraged to do so by the reduced rental charge for a week at that time of the year, when otherwise we would probably just have booked a weekend in a hotel. Again, the property was clean and comfortable in a location that is ideal for us.

Very comfortable and beautifully appointed cottage.. Well equipped and welcoming. Great spot for options of visiting Hadrian’s Wall and the less well known but stunning scenery of the Eden Valley as well as being within driving distance of the Lake District and all it offers. Wetheral itself is a lovely village with well stocked village shop, small cafe, pubs and walks from the doorstep. A great place to stay.

beautiful spacious house with all amenities you will need including a smart tv & wifi. the village is beautiful also and the owner has left a detailed book listing walks, tourist information, details on the local pub which also sells food, also the local hotel has a bar and sells food, we ate and drank in both and can recommend them. there is also a restaurant with bar but it was shut when we were there so i cannot comment. the train station is a short walk away and it is literally 7 minutes on the train to Carlisle if you want an alcoholic drink somewhere busier. there's a local shop that also has a coffee shop but the Co-op is only 1.7 miles away and a 24 hour Tesco is 2.4 miles away so this location has everything we needed.

We really enjoyed our stay in this property - very comfortable, clean and well-equipped.. Fresh milk in the fridge was welcome for that first cup of tea before unpacking or shopping! Private parking at the door, or just a short walk to the bus stop and railway station. Quiet location, yet very close to the centre of the village with a well-stocked shop and choice of places to eat and drink. Pleasant walks locally and a good centre for exploring north Cumbria, Northumberland and south-west Scotland. We hope to return before too long.

Beautiful house, well decorated with all amenities you require.. lovely area with walks easily accessible. there is only one pub in the area that also provides food, there is also a local hotel that provides food and has a bar we ate and drank at both of these establishments and they were very nice. there is also a restaurant and bar but that was shut whilst we were there so i cannot comment. there is a local shop that is also a coffee shop but 1.7 miles away is a Co-op and 2.4 miles away is a 24 hour Tesco. the owners provide a detailed book on walks, shops, places to eat etc which was a lovely touch, along with leaving a small jug of milk, tea, coffee and sugar and a bag of short bread which we thought was lovely, they also called the day after we arrived to check everything was ok and as they next door they are always on hand if you need them.

Situated in a picturesque village near Carlisle the cottage is attached to a grand house on the village green but has its own entrance and offers complete privacy and seclusion for a peaceful break. Beautifully decorated throughout with a fully equipped kitchen to luxurious lounge and bedrooms this property is indeed special.
