Property Description

Holiday home
The Old Stables is a conversion of a stable block within the scattered hamlet of Mansergh, three miles from Kirby Lonsdale, inbetween the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Park. This upside down cottage has three ground floor bedrooms, consisting of a twin room with en-suite shower room, another twin room with utility room off, and one double, as well as a ground floor family bathroom, which means this cottage sleeps six people. The first floor at this cottage contains a oak fitted kitchen and an open plan living room with separate dining area, woodburner and small balcony. Outside, this cottage has off road parking for two cars and a garden, seating area, garden furniture and BBQ. The Old Stables is a wonderful family cottage in a lovely area. Note: One well-behaved dog welcome.

Area
Mid way between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District and in the heart of the Lune Valley, the attractive market town of Kirkby Lonsdale makes an excellent spot for a family vacation. Mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, this lovely town holds a 13th Century market charter, a tradition that still continues every Thursday. Market day is an ideal opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive shops in the town or the many 17th and 18th Century buildings that can be seen throughout the settlement. As a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, the Lune Valley is home to the medieval ‘Devil's Bridge', which can still be seen spanning the river. Throughout the area there are many quiet country lanes which are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even on horseback, and the surrounding countryside provides great facilities for tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks.

Region
From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

A beautiful cottage with a spacious lounge and well equipped kitchen.. Set in gorgeous countryside it was everything we required. Friendly welcoming hosts.

April 2019
Great location (Dales, Howgills, Lakes).. Lovely conversion. Beautifully furnished. Well-equipped. Super-clean. Only (minor) shortcomings were inadequate supplies of some consumables (e.g. loo roll, dishwasher tablets) although the owner rapidly supplied tablets when texted. And we could only find one tea-towel, which was insufficient for 6 people for a week, and only 4 logs and minimal kindling in the basket on arrival, which seemed mean, and was not enough for a decent fire on the first night. Overall, strongly recommended as a great base for a week.

Great place.. Relaxing converted Stables in lovely area. Fantastic base to explore the Lakes and surrounding areas. The underfloor heating was a great plus and the dog loved it. Large log burner upstairs meant even more warmth if needed. Great pubs, shops etc in Kirby Lonsdale, beers, ales and coffee all very good at Kirby Lonsdale Brewery in centre of town and had a great meal at Black Bull in Sedbergh which is only 20 minutes drive on back road from property. Well equipped kitchen and good WiFi. Enjoyed the sounds of the river rolling by and the enclosed garden and terrace ard eat if you want to get out and enjoy alfresco drinks and food. Friendly, helpful owners. Great place to get away from it all!

Absolutely amazing place to stay and a beautiful well decorated cottage with period features.. Stunning great surroundings everything you could ask for in a relaxing break. The property had a good Sky package and wifi. The property is in a good location and not far from places of interest which you may wish to visit. The mattress in the main bed room could do with a change and the 3rd bed room was a bit dusty and felt damp. The mobile network was not great had good Wifi in the property. If you plan to order for a Tesco delivery during your stay, pls do get the correct post code. The post code that comes on Skyes booking is for the cottage owners.. Our delivery was collected by the cottage owner and we were not informed of the same. With no network there was no way to call Tesco to check why the delivery had not arrived. So literally we had nothing in the cottage for coffee / BF the day we arrived . . The cottage owners had left our stuff in boxes and being a hot day the milk etc was bound to have gotten bad and not a word of apology for not getting in touch with us which was a bit annoying. Tesco was not helpful either as they said they can cancel the order and we shopped for the entire lot of stuff required for our stay. and later past lunch time and when we had finished shopping we get a call from the owners to say the stuff was with them.Really put us off.. Was a wasted day 1 for us waiting for tesco and having double the stock of what we wanted. A lesson well learn was to call the contact number and get the correct post code.

The old stables is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.. The house feels like a home from home, comfortable and with everything you need. It is a great base for visiting so many places 3 counties on your doorstep. My granddaughter loved watching the cattle in the fields opposite. If you like the sound of birdsong on a warm late spring morning, the hammering of a woodpecker and the gentle rustle of the wind in the trees then this is the place to be

We were a family party of 12 staying in The Old Stables and Beckside Cottage for New Year. The Old Stables cottage was very quaint and quirky. The bedrooms, and the family bathroom in particular , were lovely and warm but the living area upstairs got a little cool at times, possibly because it was open plan. There was a wood burner, which we used, but it rapidly went through our fuel supplies and worked out quite expensive. I think a multi- fuel fire would be more effective. The property advertised towels included but we only had one small bath towel each ( approx 120 x 60 cm ). When I requested more towels I was questioned " for what purpose"!?!? We did get another 6 small towels to share between the 12 of us.At other rentals I have visited,I have always been supplied with a small towel bale of at least a large and medium bath sheet plus hand towel. We did enjoy our stay and would return, possibly in the summer months.

Difficult access lane to cottage.. First floor living rooms good for view but inconvenient for frequent up and down stairs. Direction details not very clear. In general, a nice cottage with total peace and quiet

This property is described as having broadband wifi. It might, but it's hopeless and required us to visit Kirby Lonsdale to obtain internet access. So if you definitely need access to email and the web, don't choose this cottage.

We were a group of 4 in the cottage, it is a lovely place with a massive living room upstairs. It was always warm with the underfloor heating and open fire. The remote location was just what we wanted too.

Excellent property in a lovely location. We were lucky enough to have fabulous weather which enhanced a wonderful experience. The property was very well maintained, clean and the sitting/living room being upstairs with double doors leading onto a balcony was quite a novel experience. Lots of nice pubs and restaurants are within a 10 minute drive in Kirkby Lonsdale and there are plenty of lovely walks to be had if that's what you are looking for.

Beautiful cottage, we had a wonderful and relaxing stay, had everything we needed (helped that we already knew the area), owners were very nice. A spacious, well appointed and well located cottage set in the Lune valley. Walk just a few yards down the road and you can see the Howgill Fells and the river Lune. Although located with a few other cottages it feels private, and the owners were very helpful and welcoming. We had a memorable holiday and would certainly consider staying again. Kirkby Lonsdale (a few miles away) has a good local supermarket and plenty of pubs/restaurants.

We had the best New Year there! The owners had put a Christmas tree and decorations up, which made it really special. We weren't bothered by anybody which is always nice. The house is much nicer than we thought - so that was a nice surprise. The sound of the stream running at the back of the house was so relaxing and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. Oh and the underfloor heating is amazing!

November 2010
The owner was very helpful and the property was always warm and cosy. This was especially welcome after a day's damp walking around Ingleton. The cottage was located in a very peaceful setting and was ideal for us to be able to visit Lancaster University. We would not hesitate to use your company again as we found all your staff to be very helpful when booking the cottage especially as we did not want a normal seven day holiday - nothing was too much trouble.

The Stables was a very comfortable, well equipped place. There was plenty of room for the six of us. The layout would not suit all, with the living accommodation upstairs and bedrooms/bathroom downstairs. The views from the living area were very nice indeed. The location meant that families with young children would need to travel on very narrow roads for every need, and the roads were really the only options for walking as the footpaths went through fields with cattle with young. We had dogs so this was not ideal for them. The owner was helpful and obliging.

The accomodation is pleasant, a barn conversion ( with all the quirks that entails eg steps all over the place in the kitchen) situated a few miles down a one way road near the sublime unspoilt town of Kirby Lonsdale. The location is very good - you can get to the lake district in 40 mins, to the yorkshire dales in about the same time, and the local towns are very pleasnt. Loads of good pubs around !The countryside around the accomodation is lovely, but unfortunatly you cannot see it from the actual house because there is woodland all round the back, and the front faces a small coutyard shared with 3 other properties. The property has a balcony which is nice - not really big enough to sit out on although you can perch on a sill and drink your coffee/wine should you wish. There is a small garden, not instantly accessible from the kitchen and the steps - could be a hassle for young children/ eating out. Outdoor furniture is provided - it all looked a bit grubby to us and there was animal excrement on the grass so we didnt use it, mind you it was October and we were not really going to dine al freco. Inside is fairly cosy - we loved the underfloor heating especially in the main bathroom. Sometimes the large living area felt a touch chilly - had we been bothered we could have tried lighting the open fire - wood etc provided. We didnt bother ( just a note, other people obviously do , and there is a smell of smoke in the room - pleasant if you like it but might bother some - ashmatics perhaps ?). The beds are fairly comfortable. The ensuite is off a twin rather than the double room. Good storage. The third bedroom is fairly small and has the boiler room off , the washing machine is in there and it actually made our stuff more grubby than we put it in - so after 2 goes we didnt use it. I imagine it was just a glitch which can be sorted, but we didnt see anyone to tell about it. Everything else worked fine. Good provision of kitchen essentials. It was good value and we liked the space ( easily big enough for 6) and location so we would happily return.
