Self-Catering Reviews

Mr Sanders
July 2020
We were very pleased with the spacious property and overall cleanliness.. The guest information book was very helpful, and provided us with ideas and inspiration about where to visit and best beaches etc . As an observation for the owners, I would suggest upgrading the shower facilities in The Stables. I had to temporarily rig up the shower head in bathroom 1 as the holder grip was flimsy which meant the shower head kept falling out of its mounting when using the shower. The shower cubicle in bathroom 2 is too small for an average sized adult to shower without banging elbows and ability to move around to wash was a little awkward. The water pressure is great but the cubicle sliding doors kept shifting off their mounting and I kept having to refit them after I had showered. Apart from that, everything else was fantastic. Would thoroughly recommend.

It was exactly what we wanted.. The fire was amazing to have also. Not that we needed it on as it was already toastie (we did use it though) Very clean. Instructions for appliances very easy to understand. The cake was a lovely touch. Sofa was really comfy as were the beds. Perfect weekend. And if it wasn't for wether, the picnic bench and outside area definetly would have been used. Fantastic weekend. Lovely place Thanks!

The Old Stables was wonderful as ever.. We have been coming back for the last 3 years because it is so quiet, comfortable and spacious. It is so great for the children and dogs having your own fenced patch of lawn and patio. The property is well maintained and very clean.

Old Stables is really lovely for a holiday - well equipped and furnished.. The set up of several places around a grassed area works really well. The Games room is a real bonus. We would highly recommend.

This is an excellent place to stay with a young family.. The accommodation is all on one level, it contains a large and spacious living area with comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms. The games/play room is brilliant when the weather isn't great and the garden areas are also safe and secure. The location of the cottage is also useful for various activities. The Tank Museum, Monkey World and various beaches are all within close and easy reach. We had a great time.

Directions were first class and interaction with Leanne was impeccable with all the relevant information supplied quickly with regard to entry to the property and other questions we had prior to arrival. Clean, Cosy and very comfortable with the small welcome package, including seasonal mince pies was a delight after our journey to the cottage. All appliances and amenities as described. We used the games room one evening and had fun. Plenty of walks near by four our four legged member of the party. The information booklet was a bonus giving lots of info and places to explore. The wood burner was lovely to settle down with of an evening. Thoroughly recommend

Amazing place - just as described.. All clean and functioning perfectly. The user’s handbook was really useful, except operating instructions for the hobb would have been brill but as we had easy access to the internet , instructions were easy to find on YouTube. The beds were so comfy and the cottage very cosy and we loved the wood burner. We used the games room too which was an added bonus. All in all a big thumbs up from us.

A beautiful & quiet location with great walks for our dogs.. The planted herb pot satisfied our culinary needs & the young people enjoyed the games room. Being all on one level was great for granddad. Everyone was happy-weather couldn’t have been better either. We bought the farm produced rapeseed oil, there was also meat had we wanted to buy it. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Had a very enjoyable week in a quality cottage.. This area of Dorset is really charming and is yet another lovely part of our beautiful country. One minor point is that there could have been more sofas / arm chairs in the living room.

The Old Stables was a fabulous property with great attention to detail, from the local area ordnance survey map on the wall to the bag of dog treats.. It was extremely well equipped and the location was beautiful. We will be back.

So dog friendly! Fenced private garden for each cottage, Dog bowls provided and you can walk from the door up into the bluebell woods. We also enjoyed the games barn , climbed a local hill, visited the beach and walked to the local pub where dogs were treated like super stars! I know weekends away aren’t all about the dogs but this venue made it so easy to enjoy ourselves, relax and not have to worry about the dogs.

Friendly and helpful staff at Sykes made this very easy.. Property was better than expected but if I had one tiny comment to make it was that the hoover there was useless! As we had two dogs with us I wanted to leave the place immaculate but couldn't really do it with the hoover. (even on high power) Everything else was perfect though.

We were really pleased upon our arrival with how the exterior was well looked after. The cottage was the same and in fact the whole building with the other cottages. We booked for our daughters 30th so we could get together as a family which The Old Stable provided us with the perfect venue. Everything needed for a holiday home was available and of high quality, although we did find the double bed extremely hard! As members of the National Trust we used this as a base to visit some beautiful country houses in the area and also a couple of trips to Studland bay and along the cost to Lulworth Cove and West Bay (Broadchurch). I would have given this 5 stars but the walls along the hall and a few other areas are in desperate need of redecoration, but that said am certain the owners will keep on top of this given a gap in their bookings. Would we use again - definitely.

We were so impressed when we arrived with how utterly beautiful the cottage was and in fact the whole building with the other cottages. We booked for our son's 18th as he is based close by. Everything you need for a holiday away was provided and the booklet was most useful to advise on local pubs, restaurants and beaches. The ONLY reason i haven't rated this cottage as 'excellent' is the fact that we had to be out by 10am which was far too early. It meant our 'relaxing stay' was turned into a mad rush on departure day (our son's actual birthday). The house keeper was sat outside at 9:45am too! I personally think 11 or even better 12pm would have made this stay perfect!

Lovely accommodation, peaceful area apart from bird song. Relaxing and very comfortable. The property is well placed for exploring the area. Look forward to our next holiday with your company in August.

The property was gorgeous. With the wood burner blazing it was the cosiest place to be. Myself and my family could not fault it. The equipment in the kitchen was of good quality too. It is unusual to come to a place like this and find quality sharp knives for cooking.

This immaculately decorated and furnished cottage was the perfect base for exploring Dorset. The owners have thought of everything and all aspects of the property are to a very high standard. The games room was ideal for children and adults alike. Each property has its' own fenced off garden which is perfect for four legged friends and young children. So many beautiful places to visit within a short drive. If you are considering booking, stop thinking about it and do it. You will not be disappointed.

This cottage is one of a small cluster inside renovated farm buildings/stables. It has been transformed into a beautifully presented holiday home. Real wood floors and furniture, modern kitchen and bathrooms, all in a wonderfully peaceful location with walks on the doorstep. Well positioned for exploring a large portion of Dorset, we visited Dorchester, Swanage, Weymouth, Poole, Bournemouth, Lulworth, Studland beach and many other places. There is plenty to see and do. It was so clean and had a feel of luxury about it, we didn't want to leave at the end of such a relaxing and enjoyable holiday!
