Area Surrounded by lush green countryside, Parwich is a charming village which dates back to Saxon times. It has a picturesque old church, village green, a country pub and a village hall. The area is a delight for cyclists and walkers, with the nearby Manifold Trail, a tarmac path that follows the old Leek to Manifold light railway, providing the perfect opportunity to explore the countryside. The route has been open since the 1930s, when the railway closed, and was probably the first disused railway to be utilised in this way. Nearby are the lovely villages of Alstonefield, Ilam and Brassington, and activities such as golf, horse riding and sailing are all within a seven mile radius. Chatsworth House and Carsington Waters are also close by, making Parwich a great base for a family holiday.

Well equipped holiday home, lots of space and very comfortable.. Ideal for family groups. Lovely pub in village (walkable) with great food. Nice walks from the house.
Ms Hall, September 2020
Our stay at The Old Shop was everything we hoped for.. The house was comfortable, well equipped, spacious and set in a beautiful village.
The house its self is nicely layed out with two stting areas for time when the grown ups need a break from the youth (or vice versa :-).
The games room was fun and courtyard was very peaceful to sit in and enjoy an evening drink.
All in all a very pleasent holiday.
Mr Dennis, September 2020
The cottage was lovely with lots of room for two families.. The spacious kitchen has a table perfect for board games and the lounge upstairs was great for relaxing. Lots of beautiful countryside for walks to Tissington etc. Given the weather was less than friendly, the pool table and darts board was a definite bonus!
We've just spent a weekend at the Old Shop in Parwich. There were two families of 5 each.
The accommodation was superb. Clean, well equipped and with everything we could have needed. Our teenage children enjoyed the games room.
The beds were comfy and the layout was quirky which gave the property an added feeling of uniqueness.
Booking was a breeze and the owner was most helpful and informative.
Only problem we had was that we didnt have the time to spend longer at this wonderful property!
Mrs Jones, August 2020
This is a really comfortable and warm house in an ideal location for our family, who are spread around the country, to get together.. It was clean, very well equipped and in a pretty village with a good pub nearby. This is our second visit to Parwich and won't be the last.
Mrs Ager, January 2020
A very comfortable, warm house, in the beautiful village of Parwich.. Extremely well equipped and a lovely welcome pack. As others have remarked it would be good to have a TV in the kitchen/lounge.
The games room was well used.
Mrs Leedham, December 2019
We had a wonderful family Christmas in this beautiful house.. There was 11 of us in total, 3 of whom were 5 and under and we found the layout and facilities of the house ideal. The kitchen was well equipped, we cooked most days including Christmas lunch and found everything we needed and plenty of space in the large oven and two fridges. The open plan kitchen/ dining/ living space downstairs is a great social area, with the large table easily accommodating us all. The separate upstairs living room is super cozy with the wood-burner and is perfect for quiet moments or watching films. The village was delightful and everyone very friendly, we enjoyed plenty of walks in and around the village, several delicious lunches in the pub and a 'pop up' Nativity on Christmas Eve in the church. All in all a perfect Christmas break. Thank you, we hope to return.
Mrs Briggs, December 2019
A great house for a family gathering with facilities for different generations to be together in a lovely area .. Super welcoming village, excellent Sunday roast at pub , made to feel welcome at village bonfire . Lovely walks from door ,and many places of interest within about half hour drive .
We parked 4cars ( 3 right next to property ) and one just a VERY short walk away . Clear parking instructions given by friendly owner beforehand .
Everyone in our family group commented on the relaxing ,spacious house and no one really wanted to leave ! Our visit was in winter and the property was warm and cosy . The games room ( lovely and warm too ! ) was an added bonus .
Thank you to the owner Bronwen for really caring about the guests and their needs . ( Great welcoming biccies and beverages .)
She even leaves a book for people to suggest any improvements or minor issues needing attention . She/ the management team are contactable for any major issues needing immediate attention . We had none !
We would all go back there !
Mrs Sellers, November 2019
Beautiful cottage with excellent facilities for all especially for my aunt with ramps and wheelchair access.. beautiful décor with spacious, cosy rooms for a large family gathering. games room exceptional. beautiful location with walks, bikes, wildlife, pubs, coffee shops plenty for all round family holiday.
Mrs Murphy, October 2019
Lovely cottage, cleanliness excellent, location perfect.. There was an issue with one of the ovens which the owner had advised us of prior to arrival. Unfortunately the owner was unable to get the part fitted prior to our arrival but it did not affect our holiday. The games room at the cottage was a bonus for the children but the weather was so good during our stay that it was used only occasionally. I would recommend this cottage for a large family group.
Mrs Simms, October 2019
Great location in lovely village setting, house layout allows separate / break out spaces, which is nice.. Games room was a bonus for all ages to use. Suggest put a TV in the ground floor open plan room, personally we rarely used top lounge as too close to bedrooms where young children slept to have TV on in evening. On saying that property layout is excellent for socialising and we loved the general feel of the house.
Mrs Winter, August 2019
What a fantastic house! I wanted a holiday with all of my family, to spend quality time together and this house was just perfect.
From the lovely big kitchen dinner where we all sat for our meals, to the large on-suite bedrooms, everything was like home from home, comfy, clean and everything you need all under one roof.
Mrs Steele, July 2019
Stayed at the Old Shop, Parwich, for a family wedding in June, fabulous house everything you could ask for and more.. Games room a real plus, our teenagers, loved it! Great having down stairs bathroom and bedroom, perfect for my elderly parents, all this in a beautiful village. The local pub, The Sycamore was also excellent. Wonderful weekend.
Mrs Newton, June 2019
Such a well equipped cottage with lots of extras which made it feel homely.. Bronwen left a delicious cake for our arrival. A delightful village with great walks. The flowers and birdsong were soothing to the soul, not forgetting the tinkling of the bells on the goats nearby.
Mrs Reeve-fowkes, May 2019
A wonderful house in a superb location.. The house was really clean, well equipped and beautifully presented. There were lots of little extras such as condiments, tea coffee, milk and cleaning products as well as a lovely homemade cake on arrival (in my experience not all houses have these). All our party loved their time here and we hope to return one day. Highly recommended.
Mrs Hobson, April 2019
The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped, with lots of extra touches making it feel special.. The village of Parwich is wonderful, great walking from the doorstep, and the village pub does good food and beer. There is a shop in the pub, although we have never used it, it is good to know it is available for any items you forget. The most special thing for us this weekend was the wonderful sight of a murmuration of starlings right over the cottage each evening. I have long wanted to see this and it was the icing on the cake of a fabulous weekend. The owner is extremely welcoming and helpful - she left us a delicious victoria sponge cake which went down very well when we arrived.
Ms Whitehouse, March 2019
Lovely cottage, plenty of space for a group, with 2 living areas and the games room was a bonus
Mr Tinker, March 2019
We loved the house and location and definitely want to return.. The house was well designed, tastefully furbished and very comfortable. The games room was a big bonus and useful back up for inclement weather. Parwich village is an idyllic location topped with a very friendly local pub. We enjoyed walks from the doorstep.
Mrs Jones was very welcoming and informative.
Mrs King, March 2019
Beautiful house, very comfortable with plenty of space for 10 people.. The kids enjoyed the games room! Location was perfect and Parwich is a lovely, peaceful village with a great local pub, serving excellent food atdecent prices. Would definitely recommend.
Mr Pearson, February 2019
The cottage was wonderful.. The thoughtful welcoming goodies were enjoyed by all. There was plenty of space for all generations of our family to have their own space or be together. The location was perfect. We could walk to the pub and play area in Parwich, to Tissington and it’s cafe. Most places we wanted to visit were within 20/30 mins drive. We all had a great time.
Mrs Wingett, February 2019
Great accommodation in a lovely location.. Fantastic for family breaks with excellent facilities and we were very well looked after by the owner. We would thoroughly recommend both Sykes and The Old Shop based on this experience.
Mr White, January 2019
Without question The Old Shop in Parwich is the best cottage we have ever stayed in.. It quite simply met all our requirements. We had 10 in our party ranging from 10 months to 70, with four separate family groups. We would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.
Mr Mountford Jp, November 2018
Fantastic house in a great village.. Local pub superb.
Mrs Iles, October 2018
We were a large family and the house met all our needs and was big enough to give us space.. The host added little extras that made us feel very welcome and made the house more of a home. The games room was an added bonus and entertained us every evening. It was tastefully decorated and clean. It was situated in a lovely village with a great pub.
Mr Chapman, July 2018
Wonderful house in a lovely area..
Mrs Shakespeare, April 2018
This is a wonderful property in a great location.. There is a pub just a couple of minutes walk away, which has a shop in it, they also do very good food (and are dog friendly!). The village is very pretty, and is only about 15 - 20 minutes drive from Ashbourne. Lots of wonderful walks from the doorstep, as long as you like hills! The locals we saw were also very friendly, and the owner helpful and welcoming, even leaving a very tasty lemon drizzle cake. The downstairs kitchen/diner/snug was well equipped and comfortable, and the first floor lounge cozy and welcoming. We definitely hope to return next year and would recommend it for a group or family holiday.
Ms Whitehouse, March 2018
The cottage was better thn we expected and more spacious.. It would have been helpful to have had a plan of the room layout in this instance.
Mr Smith, February 2018
The Village Shop in Parwich is a delightful property, well furnished and extremely comfortable.. The little extra touches from the owner were much appreciated ie a home-made cake, milk, tea bags, etc.

Mr Gibbons, December 2017
Really lovely property.. Very well equipped. The owner was very good and contactable if we needed any help. Not that we did as everything was perfect. Highly recommended.
Mrs Kilmister, November 2017
The house was beautiful, the pictures don't do it justice.. Thd owner is lovely and helpful
Beautifully presented and well equipped warm and comfortable cottage. We were travelling from NZ to meet up with friends and family from Scotland, England and Eire so this was a central meeting point about 90 minutes drive from Manchester Airport. Very pretty village with good local walks and easy access to the Peak District villages, towns and tourist attractions. The cottage was ideal for a large group as it had two large lounge spaces and a games room allowing people to socialise but also to have the option of separate spaces. The courtyard was pretty and would be great for barbecues in summer. There is a parking space big enough for two cars outside the cottage but plenty of space nearby for additional parking if needed.
Miss Padgett, March 2017

Mr Garvey, October 2016
The property was of an exceptional standard, it was beautiful, pretty well laid out and had everything we needed and more besides.. The owner was lovely when I spoke to her to arrange to collect the key and upon arrival we found milk in the fridge and a lovely cake to enjoy. Many thanks! :-)
Mrs Shepherd, October 2016
Wonderful cottage in a superb location.. The property is well equiped, exceptionally comfortable and a real gem of a find. With a big homemade cake waiting on arrival - what more could you ask for!
Ms Moyles, October 2016
The pictures of the cottage do not do it justice , its far nicer than it appears .. Well thought out , well equipped , the ideal place to take a family and be able to stay in one place all together . Just one moan Wifi was very hit and miss , and none of us could get wifi on our lap tops .
Mrs Tebbutt, September 2016
This is a property that the pictures don't do justice.. There is loads of space and everything you need . It was immaculate and very quirky in that it's a bit of a maze that kids will love. Hope we get chance to return.
Mr Haddock, August 2016
Beautiful countryside and a lovely cottage.. Shame the local pub was shut whilst we were there.
The house is beautiful and very well equipped we had teenagers with us and they particularly enjoyed the games room, having the 2 sitting rooms meant that everyone had their own space. We had a wonderful holiday here and would recommend it to anyone.
