Self-Catering Reviews

October 2019
Really lovely spacious cottage - the photos do not do it justice.. Very comfortable accommodation. Clean and well maintained, well-equipped kitchen. Road noise from the A1 is present but did not bother us as we were aware of this from previous reviews. Construction work taking place in close proximity but again did not affect our enjoyment of the cottage. Excellent base for Durham, Beamish, coast & beyond.

A WhatsApp or text from owner on morning explaining check in ( key in door from 3.. 00 so easy but we didn’t know) some basic toiletries as we had arrived for 24 hours travelling n no shower gel just hand wash Some local info eg nearest shop takeaway place of interest would have been useful Just little things as the cottage is really lovely but they make a place feel more welcoming

Very spacious cottage.. Great garden for the children to play in even if you can ear the noise of the motorway when outside but no disturbance when inside. We enjoyed seeing the animals around the cottage (cows, sheeps, hens)... Great location too: we could easily visit the region from the Dairy.

I would recommend this cottage, on arrival there was fresh milk in the fridge tea and coffee ( which I thought was a nice touch, just what you need after a long drive ).. The cottage was clean and spacy with everything you need provided, books, dvd's both adult and children catered for. This is an ideal location to explore the many attractions around as it is 5 minutes off the main A1. The cottage is on a farm but don't let this put you off, the farmer and family are great and not forgetting the dogs who would come round for a game of football . Great stay .

Great place to visit on this working farm. Very comfortable accommodation. A nice touch was the milk, coffee and tea waiting after a long journey. All bedding and towels supplied and central heating included. The Easter week was chilly but the heating made this place very cosy. A bonus was because of the time of the year, lambs were being born in the pens at the end of the garden. If you like walking the area has some splendid walks, especially along the coast paths. There was a slight problem with traffic noise from the main road but you can get used to that and at the time we were there the WiFi was down but that was no great loss. Overall a very nice holiday was had.
Mr Gloyns
April 2016
Everything was superb. It was an extremely comfortable, very spacious property. Towels were supplied and the bedding was fresh and clean, the beds were extremely comfortable. A bonus of going at Easter was that it was lambing time and to see lambs being born was great.

a very nice cottage on the surface, it was great fun playing football with the sheepdogs and Masie is sooooo cute i nearly took her home with me, it was a great idea that food wasted went to the animals and we had fun feeding the chickens, and peppa pig ! it might have been a nice idea to have some eggs seen as tho we fed them all week !! the downside of the cottage was it could have been a litttle cleaner and there was no wii fi !!!!!!!!

The Dairy was spacious and well furnished and had been cleaned to a good standard before our arrival. The garden was quite large and reasonably private and equipped with adequate seating and a BBQ. The kids particularly enjoyed playing football with the farm dogs. The Dairy was in an ideal location to explore County Durham and Northumberland being close to the A1. We would definitely recommend The Dairy to others.

April 2014
The Dairy is situated in a great spot for exploring the North East. It is comfortable and very spacious, very well equipped. We were given more than enough towels and barbecue coals and there was milk in the fridge for our arrival. We enjoyed visiting Beamish, Preston Park, Hardwick Park and the Life Centre in Newcastle.

We spent a week in this cottage and it quickly became a home from home! It is comfortable and very spacious. It is well equipped and the owners have included lots of extras that made the stay even better - lots of large soft towels, bbq coals, a collection of DVDs, milk in the fridge on arrival. It really was first class. The garden is huge and all enclosed so any children can play safely. The cottage is ideally located for exploring the north east as it is close to the A1. Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, Hartlepool can all be reached in under 30 mins, so there is lots you can do. We visited Beamish, Preston Park, Metro Centre, Centre of Life, Adventure Valley. All are great. Hardwick Park in Sedgefield is handy and worth a visit too. Overall, we had a great stay and will definitely be back!

Just returned from a week at the Dairy. The accommodation was excellent, just as it showed on the agents website. This is an ideal base for touring the area. Although we were a couple staying here it would be equally as good for families with children. Douglas the owner couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Would definitely recommend to anyone and would sty her agin.

The owner and her family were very friendly and accommodating. They were knowledgeable about the area and nothing was too much trouble. Our son was particularly happy with the friendliness of the owners children to the extent we rarely saw him and even the dogs kept us amused for hours on end throwing balls down the garden.
Mrs Scoulding

The property was much larger than we expected and was very tastefully furnished. The enclosed garden was great for children and the animals being on the doorstep, provided them with lots of extra entertainment! The downstairs shower was excellent - great water pressure. Useful DVD collection which my son in particular enjoyed. Overall a stunning house, we would happily recommend it to others and visit again.

The Dairy was a great house to stay in for our holidays - it has two good sized bedrooms, two bathrooms, a lovely sitting room with leather couch and large tv, and a spacious, well-equipped kitchen. The beds were comfy and we all slept well. It is very close to the A1(M) and there are some good restaurants nearby. Rita left tea, milk, wine, sugar, coffee and bbq charcoals for us and the house contained everything we needed. The front garden was great for cricket. Overall, great value for money - we would go back again.
