The Cottage is an end-terraced stone cottage in the North Yorkshire village of Ampleforth. The cottage sleeps six people in three bedrooms -one double, 1 x 3/4 double and one room with bunks beds. There is a bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC. The living accommodation is made up of a kitchen, dining room with French doors, a sitting room with woodburning stove and a small conservatory overlooking the garden. The garden is made up of tiered patio levels with furniture and a BBQ. Off road parking is available for one car. With the lovely countryside of the national park close by, and the east coast resorts within driving distance, The Cottage makes a good family base from which to explore both coast and country.

Area
Ampleforth is close to the North York Moors National Park, and is home to two pubs, a fish and chip shop and shop. Helmsley market town is 5 miles away and the National Park is close by offering great scenic walking and cycling. Within easy driving distance are Pickering and the East Coast resorts such as Scarborough.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Lovely cottage cosy and warm ideally situated near white Swan pub for good meals .. Comfortable beds ,hot water loads of towels .Ten minuets drive from the beautiful town Of Helmsley which has such a diverse selection of shops , so after a busy day walking and shopping a perfect cottage to return to .

The water heater is very noisy and kept waking me up at night.. The beds are not suitable for tall people (over 6ft) as they all have boards at the end.

From the photos the bed looked wider than it was, which was why I gave it the Comfort score which I did.. Apart from that it was a cracking little place.The parking space was too small for my (large) Rover but OK for a Mini.

This is the first time we have used and stayed with Sykes Cottages, this cottage was lovely.. The price was very reasonable for a weekend stay as some other cottages and providers are way over priced for a short break. We all enjoyed the cottage and the area is lovely. The only things I would say are the kitchen units are looking a little unloved in places and our mattress was not comfortable - too soft for us and we felt we may roll out of bed. The bunk beds where great - our 10 yr old was delighted to get the top bunk as usually our 10 yr old gets the top bunk but she would have hit her head on the ceiling. It would be nice to have maybe a 11am check out, the 10am checkout is the norm for pretty much all cottage providers so is not a cottage or Sykes cottage criticism more of a suggestion to allow for a Sunday morning sleep in. Many thanks, we will be looking at booking again for the future.

A lovely cottage, very clean and comfortable with all the amenities that we wanted.. Great location for visiting places of interest or going for walks with the dog. Highly recommended village pub, very welcoming with good food and dog friendly. What's not to like?!

The Cottage was fantastic, very well thought out and would meet the needs of anyone staying there as very well equipped.. The village was quiet, countryside vast and lots to explore. Loved our stay there.

The property is charming, well located and we had a fabulous holiday.. The owner is friendly and allowed us to leave our dog in the property unattended when eating out which was very kind. The property is well located with the lovely town of Helmsley not far and perfect for our walking holiday. We ate in both pubs and found the White Horse the best with a warm welcome and excellent home cooked food. Parking is snug on the property. We had an estate car and had to park on the main road, which is quite busy and not very wide, wouldn't suit everyone especially with young children.

Family of 3. Stayed a long weekend in sunny May. Cottage has everything you need and more. The owners leave lots of things for you; cooking condiments, cleaning things, fuel for the fire, etc. So you really only need to bring the essentials. The cottage is clean and light. Good hot water and certainly hot enough with both central heating and a lovely fire. Off street parking. REALLY quiet! Which is kind of the point in going..... Communication with the owners excellent. Two lovely pubs in the village and a shop for the essentials. Plenty to offer in the area around. Would recommend

Beautiful cottage in a stunning location.. All the mod cons and equipment you would require. The owners leave you some welcome things, which are very helpful. Off street parking. Real fire. Lovely cosy and comfy cottage, well located, short walk to pub and shop.. The cottage is well equipped and we arrived to find a full log basket and coal bucket, fresh milk and biscuits, coffee, tea, and a full spice rack, - very thoughtful. The second double bed is a small one, okay for son and girlfriend but would be a bit of a squeeze for an older couple. We would stay there again. The owner responded to questions quickly and was very helpful.

Great location with 2 pubs within walking distance and a village stores too! ! All we could hear from the patio was birdsong and church bells....lovely...perfect weekend and the sun shone the whole time!

I am sitting in the living room of this perfect little cottage the heat from the wood burner is so cosy and warm Im looking through a tree to the hillside on the opposite side of the valley. Restful is the word! We have stayed a week revisiting pubs and places we used to go to when I was a child. The cottage has everything I need for a comfortable relaxing stay with my family and the dog. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans everything works well the rooms upstairs are as one would expect from a traditional yorkshire cottage query shapes and low beams gives one the total experience of living in this beautiful setting. oh and one final point the wifi is awesome!

Property very good. Plenty to do in the surrounding area; castles, museums, Helmsley is a lovely village, and Whitby is only 12 miles away. Fish and Chips in Mr Chips excellent, and staff very obliging. All in all a lovely break.
