Property Description

Holiday home
The Coach House, as its name suggests, was originally a working coach-house, built in the 19th Century. This detached property as been lovingly restored to offer substantial accommodation, yet retains much of its original charm through exposed beams and an open fire. With 3 bedrooms, it offers accommodation for up to 6 people. Although it is very close to the banks of the river, the front garden is enclosed by walls, so any children are safe in the event that they are unsupervised. This also offers excellent opportunities for outdoor dining and summer barbecues. The property also boasts its own all-weather tennis-court and a stocked fishing-lake which visitors can use with prior arrangement through the owner.

Accomodation Details
Three bedrooms: 2 x king-size double, 1 x twin. Bathroom with bath, shower over, basin & WC. Ground floor shower room with shower, basin & WC. Spacious, well equipped kitchen/breakfast room. Separate dining room. Large, character sitting room with woodburner. Utility room.

Area
Unofficially recognised as the capital of the Tyne Valley, it is a picturesque collection of stone houses nestling on the banks of the North Tyne river. This part of Northumbria is steeped in history and a wide range of historical monuments and buildings pay testament to the region's past. Hadrian's Wall is a short drive and the origins of Bellingham itself can be traced back to Roman times. In addition, the local countryside remains unspoilt and much of it is cared for by the National Trust, offering ample opportunities for walking, riding and other outdoor pursuits. The countryside also acts as home to a variety of wildlife and there are a number of nature reserves from which you can observe animals in their natural habitat.

Region
Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.

April 2019
Fantastic week with kids and dog.. Not enough time to explore will have to come back. We have enjoyed star gazing and had appreciated the kit available in the cottage so we did not have to share. Which was great, had a great time with a binoculars each. Great gardens and tennis court on site and only short drive to Kielder for more fun cycling, wildlife and good food. Would recommend to order groceries delivery but Billingham has a good coop and service station has also good selection including gluten free and vegetarian. Had a great time and first BBQ of the year. We also had Family came to spend the day with us at the property with no issues. Everyone was very friendly. The other holiday cottage on site is quite a distance so no disturbance, but close enough for kids to play ball with neighbours in shared garden. We also explored the county and great places to visit within 30min -1hr for day trips (Hadrian's wall, Cragside, Alnwick). Will definitely keep this in my favourites to come back.

March 2019
Having omitted to sign the vistors book, I had to leave feed back, we stayed for a week beginning of March 2019, 3 adults, 2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and 1 9 year old for 2 nights.. The Coach House, Bellingham is as shown in the pictures, and large enough to not be on top of each other. Cottage was spotlessly clean, very warm and also had a wood burner in the front room. Loved all the old furniture and especially the master bed! Have never slept so comfortably. From the kitchen to the utility there is nothing you could want for as everything is provided. Now the grounds, and the walled garden excellent for walking off lead your dogs, my grandson whos football mad absolutely loved the large lawned area with goal post, this was well used, when a bit wet and muddy they took themselves off to the enclosed tennis court. Only downside was the weather! within one 24 hrs had rain, snow, sleet and blue skies warm enough to take your coat off, this amused my grandson how changeable the weather was. This is not the owners fault. Ann couldnt of been more helpful. The cottage is in a lovely area and would definately visit again. Whilst there we visited Kielder Observatory highly recommend and did falconry day again highly recommend/ We ate at the Carriages, Cheviot Hotel, Pheasant Inn and the Rocky Roach Cafe, enjoyed all. Dont hesitate to visit you wont be disappointed.

We had a week in December in this lovely cottage. Location is great for exploring Keilder, Hexham and Corbridge areas. Could not fault the cottage - everything you needed. Lots of space and we really enjoyed the woodburner in the living room.

The cottage represented one of the best we have ever stayed in.. The online information provided all the necessary information, and the follow-up emails informed us about our upcoming holiday and reminded us to make contact with the landlady. The initial contact with the landlady was warm and efficient, and she was present on arrival to show us the cottage and give us all relevant information to fully enjoy the cottage. The cottage was fully equipped to high standard leaving us with no recommendations to make it a better experience. We are definitely going back in the near future.

One word EXCELLENT..

October 2018
Great cottage with every amenity provided.. Superb location for the National Park and the Dark Skies area. Anne and Bill the owners were very friendly and extremely helpful. The bottle of wine and delicious cake were welcome extras upon arrival. The cottage has lovely period features and furniture and no expense has been spared in making it a brilliant stay. The positive guest book comments sum up the great stay of everyone who has been previously with some coming back several times. That in itself is a great reflection of the property and the owners. We will definitely go back giving us the opportunity to see many of the other excellent attractions in the area that can’t be covered in just one week.
Mrs Johns

The accommodation at the coach house was excellent, very tastefully decorated throughout.. The enclosed garden for our two dogs was fantastic!! and the surrounding area is breathtaking. Would definitely recommend and hope to visit again in the future.

September 2018
The description of the house was very good and along with the pictures, we were not disappointed in our expectations, in fact the house was better because the furnishings were of very high quality and we felt very privileged to be able to stay in such grandeur.. The garden being fully enclosed with stone wall was superb with wonderful views of the fells, we saw stunning and varied skies with georgeous dawn and sunsets. Our hosts were lovely and very welcoming and hospitable, nothing was too much trouble and we were encouraged to pick fruit from the many fruit trees in the garden which made bountiful fruit pies Kielder Park is a wonderful place to visit to get the best fresh air, the lake looked stunning, the forest walks suitable for buggies and wheelchairs and the Visitor Centre offered a comfortable place to sit whilst enjoying freshly baked cakes with a pot of tea or coffee overlooking the lake. We were able to pick up some gifts in the shop next door which provided a lovely selection of wares and was a little shoppers paradise. The local village of Bellingham was ideal for picking up any groceries, everyone was very friendly and for a bit of extra banter, a must is a visit to the butchers. A visit to nearby Otterburn Mills is also worth a visit because the scenery as you drive across the top of the fells is simply breathtaking and on a clear day you can see for miles and miles. The Mills has some historical machinery that is cleverly incorporated inside shop and tea room for easy viewing, a must to try are the cheese scones and sausage rolls, delicious. This was first time to this part of the Country and will definitely go back as a star gazer, spectacular. The only disappointment was only be there for one week.

The cottage is a very substantial building, beautifully furnished and containing everything one could wish for.. We were particularly appreciative of having a large, walled garden that proved inescapable for my two dogs. The nearest village, Bellingham, had a very good local butcher, bakery, general stores, post office etc.

Had an amazing week staying at this fabulous Coach House. Everything was thought of to make our stay perfect and to top it off the most gorgeous homemade lemon drizzle cake on arrival, well worth travelling up for!! 4 adults stayed and with the 2 bathrooms it worked so well, the furniture is to die for as well, real luxury! We certainly made good use of the kitchen and fabulous Aga! The location is very central for everywhere really, we loved exploring the National Trust properties around Northumberland, we just didn't get enough time to fit it all in. Will definitely be back! We wanted to explore so much more but with every bend of the road bringing a new surprise and wow moment, it was a tall order!! Thank you for letting us stay Carol, Mervyn, Marc & Rebecca

In a lovely position which was quiet and peaceful, and the very friendly owners were on hand if needed. The dogs were made as welcome as we were. It was so nice to have a well equipped utility room where we were able to store boots, dry clothes and then shut the door on it, allowing us to enjoy the house at its best.

The house is well equipped and there was nothing that hadn't been thought of. Very clean and high quality fittings made the stay very comfortable. September 2015
A beautiful property that is really well appointed with quality fixtures and fittings. The house is warm and very comfortable and the location is great for getting around the area especially Corbridge, Hadrians Wall and Kielder Forest. The walks through the forest are fantastic. The garden at the Coach house is wonderful for star gazing and we actually saw some shooting stars. The owners are delightful and are on hand if needed but do not impose themselves on you. If we visit this area of Northumberland again we would definitely go back to this property.

May 2015
The location was great, the house position and gardens are wonderful and the house is well decorated, furnished and stocked with crockery, cutlery and the like. No mobile phone signal is a actually a benefit, it means being genuinely free from work, but having WiFi is good, and essential for kids with iPads and the like. Also there is so much to do/see within 60mins drive. There was nothing we didn't like.

April 2014
Thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing and peaceful week at The Coach House. Left to our own devices, within easy drive of Holy Island on the coast, Bamburgh Castle, Kielder Forest and Bellingham. Property was great for large family, or like us, a couple with dogs and room for visiting overnight family members. Made to feel very welcome, and the owners were very helpful with a blown tyre due to a serious pothole in the area - the only downside to the entire week. The state of the roads in Northumberland leaves alot to be desired! However, managed to source local help via the owners and enjoyed an enforced day off with local walks and exploration. The property is very spacious and flexible enough to cater for all visitors and our four legged friends, all 3 of them! Heartfelt recommendation to stay here even in February!

This was a perfect getaway. We had an excellent stay. Everything we could have wanted was catered for. The oven allowed us to cook wonderful meals in a cosy home away from home (I really love an aga!), and the wood burning stove kept us warm and comfortable curled up by the TV.

May 2013
This cottage just oozed character. From the comfy lounge with log fire and bureau, the spacious formal dining room complete with suitably chunky furnishings, the scatter rugs and massive king size bed in the main room and the warm and inviting kitchen - this cottage wraps its arms around you from the start! The owners live next door - close enough to call on if you need anything (like local information) but not so close that you feel invaded. I will be back to this lovely part of the country and if this cottage is available I will certainly book it again.
Mr May
April 2013
This is the perfect property if you like to get away from it all. It's peaceful and remote with breathtaking views from every window. The beds are extremely comfortable and the garden is huge, our dogs loved playing chase around the tennis court.

The house itself, in terms of size, layout and equipment, as well as its situation, were perfect for us. The furnishings are beautiful and completely in keeping with the age of the property - but everything was still very comfortable, so we were able to relax and feel at home. The enclosed garden and utility room were a great advantage for keen walkers with a dog.

The house was amazing, very spacious with beautiful antique furniture and wonderful views of the hills from all the bedroom windows. Probably the best equipped kitchen ever, books, games and two large information folders. So much thought has gone into this house and the surroundings are perfect for walkers. We loved it.

October 2012
We stayed at the Coach House to provide a base from which our children could run the Keilder Marathon, and then stayed on for the rest of the week. What a treat a real home from home, everything was comfortable ,clean and tasteful. Wonderfully equipped spacious and just wonderful. To be really picky the only thing that was not up to our home standards was the shower which was a bit small, but we will be back despite this as there is always the bath.!!

January 2012
Very friendly owners who live next to the property. Views from the property are stunning. The furniture is not new, but classy - most of it is antique and in keeping with the house. The house was warm with the central heating on and has a lovely log burner in the lounge. The beds are spacious and comfortable. If we return to Northumberland in the future and there is no reason why not as it is a beautiful place, we will return here.
Mr Foster
January 2012
The whole experience was stress free, from booking to actually taking the holiday. The Coach House was all that it said, and more. We really can't stress how beautiful the house and location, and how helpful and pleasant the owners were. The house was full of charming features, was olde world yet with modern facilities. No expense had been spared, from ultra modern shower room and Aga, to antique furniture and numerous paintings. The garden was a delight to behold, perfect for us to enjoy, yet totally enclosed to allow dogs and children to roam unattended. I could go on, but suffice to say that this cottage is perfect, warm, dry and welcoming.
Mrs Wootton
January 2012
The warm welcome by the owners. The immaculate attention to detail throughout the house and general thoughtfulness for what a holiday maker needs in a home-from-home. It was the most enjoyable stay we've ever had in a holiday cottage.

December 2011
The service from Sykes was excellent staffare very pleasant. Mr and Mrs Monroe who own the cottage live in the house next to the coach house and were on hand if we had any queries. Very nice couple who left a welcome gift of Milk in the fridge and a lovely bottle of red wine. The cottage was very comfortable and the furnishings enhanced the cottage feel. Well equipped with everything you could need. The Queen sized bed was heaven. The cottage is set in large grounds with a lovely river walk just outside the gates to the cottage. It is also a short drive to Keilder Forrest with great walks. Not far to the Coquet Valley We found a lovely Butchers in Bellingham and are coming back to him for our Christmas meat as it was so nice. Enjoyed the tennis court which was well used throughout our stay. Loved the log burning stove. Just a perfect cottage to enjoy a realaxing break. Would deffinately return.

The Coach house is a lovely property and very comfortable for our stay. The whole family enjoyed the tennis courts and the walks around the area were great. We took advantage of Calvert Trust, which is only a short trip away, and the boys took part in many activities they would not normally try such as climbing wall, canoeing, zip wire and king swing. This really made our holiday.

The house was fabulous, as was the welcome by the owners. The house was furnished to a standard far beyond my expectations of a holiday home and was far from the usual cheap/old items. The kitchen was really well equipped and had ample crockery. The lounge was really cosy with the wood burner and furnishings. I really can't recommend the house and owners enough - it's a great place to stay and we had a fantastic holiday there!

Very friendly hosts. It felt like we were staying as guests rather than in a holiday cottage.

A very comfortable well equipped holiday home. The only problem we had was the size of the radiators in the house - as the weather was cold outside the radiators didn't give out enough heat in this high celing, large rooms, coach house. The owners were very pleasant and made us feel very welcome.
Miss Cleminson

The owners made us feel welcome. The cottage was superb, plenty of room, a log fire to die for. Can't say enough about the cottage and the fantastic garden. First time we spent Christmas away from home and the cottage made this the best ever. Can't wait to return to our magic cottage. 10/10, 5 star, without a doubt. Don't delay, book today.

The cottage was reasonably priced, was tastefully furnished very comfortable and a superb location for walking and kielder forest . As we played tennis it was an added bonus. The only thing i have to grumble about but im sure it will be tackled in the near future is the path down to the river and along needs clearing as it was quite overgrown. The owners were very helpful and friendly.

From the moment we opened the door to this beautiful home to the time we closed it, we felt as though we were at home. The owner of the cottage had ensured it was warm and welcoming and was friendly and non intrusive throughout our stay. My sons who live in Newcastle and Scotland are unable to visit us at our home in Sussex very often and do not spend time together due to work commitments, this lovely house opened its doors to us all and we spent many evenings round the log fire together. Unlike many holiday homes, where it is obvious the owner has filled the rooms with utilitarian furniture and fittings, this lovely coach house had things that 'fitted'it was charming and we fell in love with it. Especially the Queen bed.We took some lovely photos from the kitchen window and now |I want to go back.

The accommodation is first rate, elegant and spacious with excellent facilities. The garden and tennis court are a great extra, dogs are made extremely welcome and the owners are so welcoming and helpful. The surrounding area is beautiful, Kielder Water is 10 minutes away, this offers great outdoor activites at the wonderul lake and forest park. This is a truly special place, set in one of the most beautiful part os the country - can not be recommended enough!!

July 2009
The property exceeded expectations and was better than described in the brochure. The exposed oak beams and general olde worldiness of the property gave a unique charm that we haven't experienced before. We would highly recommend this property for anyone considering a 'get away from it all holiday' in very comfortable surroundings.
Mrs Butler

The use of the tennis court, the range in the kitchen and the quiet peacefulness. The owners' personal tourism guide which was a genuine and true account of local activities and information.
Mrs Walker
July 2008
The owners were almost on site but never interfered and were very helpful when we did contact them. The garden and tennis court were divine. As a family getting together for a silver wedding, it 'extended' the house and gave us lots of space to chat and unwind. The Aga in the kitchen gave us hours of cooking fun. A real treat for the cooks amongst us. We just felt so relaxed and with so much to do within a close radius, I couldn't have chosen more wisely, if I do say so myself.
Mrs Rutherford

June 2007
You could not have wished for a nicer place. The warm welcome (incl.the wine)the cosy atmosphere, everything was perfect. The surrounding country side, the local people and pubs. Information leaflets were available to read and a full glossary of all we needed to know was at hand. We were allowed to take our two well behaved dogs, even the rabbits that were merrily munching away at the owners vegatable patch were friendly. Despite the weather we had a brilliant time, the owner was away but came back as we were leaving, a very nice gentleman, we hope to go back in the not too distant future, back to Hadrian's Wall and Greysteads Coach House, lovely.

There was a variety of things to do on your doorstep. You were very close to Keilder but also close to Hadrians Wall and you had shared use of a new all-weather tennis court in the garden. There was fishing too on site if you wanted it. The owners were very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. There was a lovely welcome note and a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived. The accommodation was very spacious and very comfortable. There was a comprehensive and up-to-date folder listing all there was to do in the area, places to visit, where to eat, where all the facilities were etc.

A beautiful cottage situated in a remote idyllic location. Plenty of space for our party of six adults, and we were very impressed by the period features and lovely bedrooms. Mr Wills
January 2005
The location is the main reason why we wanted a break in Northumbria; however we did not expect the cottage to be so beautiful. The location is perfect, with a stunning view of the countryside that made eating breakfast such a pleasurable moment - each and every day. The cottage more than catered for our every need. The description on the website fails to do it justice! The welcome message left by Ann made us feel totally at home from the moment we stepped foot through the door. The hosts are a very nice couple who valued our privacy, but were on call if we needed assistance. If we were to describe the Coach House in a word, then that word just has to be WOW! This is one cottage we will definitely be returning too. Thank you Sykes Cottages; and especially a very big thank you to Ann Bill for ensuring that our winter break was memorable.
Ms Muir
