Property Description

Holiday home
The Byre has been tastefully converted to offer accommodation for 2 people; a classic, romantic retreat. Exposed beams and a four-poster bed help it retain much of its original charm and there is also a small garden from which you can enjoy the stunning scenery or indulge in a spot of al fresco dining. There is parking for up to 2 cars, although the best way to get the most from this area is on foot.

Accomodation Details
All ground floor. 1 double bedroom with four poster. Bathroom with bath, separate shower cubicle, basin and WC. Modern fitted kitchen with dining area and French windows to garden. Cosy sitting room.

Area
The village of Wentnor lies on a ridge to the west of the Long Mynd, with good views in all directions. It is an attractive village, situated on a location that can be traced back to Saxon times. The church of St. Michael and All Angels is at one end of theridge, and there are spectacular views to be had from there, looking towards the west from the churchyard. Carved into an outside wall of the church is an inverted 'face'. Inside is a tombstone known as the ‘Hurricane Tombstone'; this is in memory of a family who lost their lives in the nearby hamlet of Asterton during a hurricane in 1772. Wetnor is also situated close to many other historic Shropshire attractions. The Shropshire Hills are littered with Roman and Iron Age settlements, perfect destinations for those who want to mix a bit of history with a scenic walk. Church Stretton is only a few miles away and offers a beautiful example of a modern medieval village. With outdoor pursuits, such as fishing and mountain-biking, in abundance, Wentnor is a haven for those looking to get away from it all.

Region
A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

Amenities
LPG central heating. Electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge, TV, video, WiFi. Fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Off road parking for 2 cars. Ms Morgan, August 2020
August 2020
Views. Views.. Views. The setting of The Byre is stunning with gorgeous views from front and back doors. As others have said the photos are out of date and the cottage is much nicer than the photos show. Spacious, comfortable, well equipped and clean. We enjoyed every second in the cottage. The walks from the doorstep are fabulous, with other great walks a short away. Perfect for walkers who like being a little remote. So quiet and peaceful and a clear night gives beautiful stars too. All in all - superb.

If you like peace, tranquility, beautiful surroundings and comfort, then The Byre is the perfect holiday accommodation for you.. The accommodation is bigger than what it appears on the pictures.

This cottage is ideally situated for those seeking peace and quiet, escape from the hubbub and who enjoy walking and exploring quiet paths and lanes.. It is off the beaten track, yet close to small market towns such as Bishops Castle. The cottage is simply furnished and spacious for two.

September 2018
We booked this cotttage as a last minute decision and therefore did not have great expectations, but WOW what a find.. The place is in an area of outstanding natural beauty with excellent views over the Long Mynd, and totally peaceful and quiet. There is NO light pollution at night, no traffic and even no rural noise and we had the BEST sleep you coulld wish for in a very comfortable bed. The cottage is well equipped, very clean and comfotable and the owner friendly and helpful. We had a lovely, unexpected welcome package of milk, tea and coffee, flowers and even a bottle of wine and chocolates. Although quite remote, the cottage is within easy reach of Craven Arms, Church Stretton and Bishop's Castle. Even Shrewsbury is only half an hour's journey by car. For walkers the place is heaven. I would highly recomment this lovely place.
Mr Skilton

June 2018
Having already stayed at the Byre [ 2 years ago ] ensured that a return visit was essential before too long [ We are both mid-octogenarians ! ! ]. The location is splendid, the property the best we have ever used and the tranquility was a necessary ingredient. We admired the cheerfulness of the walkers passing by [ we used to walk a lot when we were alive !! ]. Bob continues to be most friendly and helpful. The surrounding area is outstanding and in our opinion a "forgotten" or " overlooked" part of the country. Sadly the distance from home is what it is - lengthy. Never-the-less hopefully we may return. - that in itself says it all . Weather-wise and ALL things considered - Perfect.
Mrs Davidson

December 2016
Wow!! What a fantastic place, currently sitting in the lounge of this property writing the review, couldn't wait to get home to do it!! Don't want to go home!! This place is great. Very high standard of decor with every attention to detail being made. As others have stated the pictures quite simply don't do it justice. We found the bed very comfy, neither too hard or soft. Location is so pretty and quiet. We have had the most relaxing weekend before the usual annual onslaught of Christmas!! VERY HIGHLY recommend this place to EVERYONE. Will be returning for a full week next summer. LOVED IT. Thank you.

The Cottage was set in a beautiful, tranquil location with excellent views across the countryside and surrounding hills.
Ms Ingram
June 2015
The holiday cottage was lovely and had everything we needed to be able to enjoy our holiday. The pictures didn't do it justice; The Byre is located in the most amazing setting and we loved the experience of waking up and hearing nothing but the sheep and the birds. I would recommend this cottage to anyone but particularly to those who enjoy peace and quiet and hiking which was from the doorstep. We could happily have stayed a second week and there would still have been plenty to do. The owner goes the extra mile and the property was spotless. We appreciated the books, tv, radio and board games being provided. We would certainly stay there again.
Mr Barker
June 2015
As with our first visit, the property was perfect in every way. Set in wonderful scenery this cottage is a perfect place to relax and enjoy.

June 2015
We really enjoyed our one week stay at the Byre. It is ideal for those who love peace and quiet and enjoy hiking. The cottage is so well equipped with everything you could possibly need and spotlessly clean. We really appreciated the fresh flowers, chocolate, wine, milk, tea and coffee that were there when we arrived. I don't believe the pictures on the website do this cottage justice. The setting and the views are just stunning. We loved waking up and hearing nothing but the birds and the sheep. We love our hiking and found plenty of walks to keep us busy for a week. We could happily have stayed for a second week and would not hesitate in recommending this cottage to anyone. If there is just one slight criticism is that we found the bed too small and the mattress too hard.
Mr Darlington
May 2015
The Cottage was superb in every aspect with absolutely gorgeous views. The accommodation was very spacious and clean and warm. The owner was a friendly and genial host and nothing too much trouble if you needed anything. We had a wonderful relaxing holiday. I would really recommend this property.
Mr Broughton
March 2015
The cottage was in the perfect position for a walking holiday. Everything one could need was provided, in fact the welcome was the best we've experienced. It was close to National Trust properties for rainy days and there was a pub serving good food within reasonable walking distance.
Mrs Naven
February 2015

January 2015
The cottage was ideal, well kept and well appointed. In an absolutely delightful setting in the Shropshire Hills. The owner was a lovely man and so helpful. The walks from the cottage offer endless possibilities with the Shropshire Way and the Jack Mytton Way on your doorstep.

December 2014
This cottage and it's location could not have been better. The cottage was absolutely delightful in every way and so homely. It was especially nice to arrive in a warm cottage. I'm sure we will return.
Mr Mulford

July 2014
This cottage is provided with everything you could possibly want, and then some. We were greeted with fresh flowers, chocolates, wine, tea, sugar, milk, coffee and many other essentials to get us started. It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and spacious. Set in a lovely garden on a farm, it was very peaceful. If it is the city life you are after this may not be the place for you but we couldn't fault it.
Mr Goodacre
June 2014
This cottage was the best we have stayed in. It was quiet and out in the sticks. The owner was a superb host and everything was catered for even the special additions. It's great for walk, or rides and there is plenty to see and do. There's a good pub in the village which serves excellent food and very friendly. The comments book says it all. We will be going back.

May 2014
This beautiful cottage was just the tonic we needed. Everything you could need is there and more as you arrive to a bottle of wine, flowers, chocolates and bottled water. The water is from a bore hole but we had no problems at all with this. It is much larger than it looks on the web site and of a very high standard. The views are wonderful. Only very small thing, and this is just a personal comment, the mattress is far to soft. The Crown pub in Wentnor is excellent. Food is lovely and all the staff and locals made us feel very welcome.
Dawn R
April 2014
We stayed for a week in this lovely holiday home which was very well equipped with everything you might need. It was quite spacious for a one bedroom property and the photos do not do it justice. As I was recovering from a recent illness it was the perfect place to relax. The views were fantastic from every window. The owner was particularly friendly and left some very welcome goodies to start the week.
Mr Farmer
October 2013
We have visited The Byre 3 times, and plan to do so again, I think that says it all really. It's location is especially great, and the friendliness of the owner makes this place special, it certainly ticks all the boxes for us.

Mr Watts
August 2013
We loved our stay at The Byre.

August 2013
Last week we had the pleasure of staying at the Byre in Adstone, near Wentnor. When we arrived, there was a warm welcome for us including complimentary chocolates, a bottle of wine, tea, coffee, milk and a bowl of grapes. Having looked around the cottage we could see we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The front porch afforded a stunning view of the Long Mynd with gliders and hang gliders soaring above the valley and to the rear of the cottage there is a patio area for eating outside or having a BBQ. The cottage has its own water supply from a bore hole - it tasted fine! The local pub serves very good food and beer but we found it preferable to drive there, it taking about 20 minutes to walk along the narrow lane. But this was also the beauty of the place, its remoteness and rural setting. We found it an ideal base for walking in the Shropshire hills. We would not hesitate to return if holidaying in Shropshire again.
Mr Bowman
July 2013
The views from all aspects were brilliant. the owner was helpful and from our view excellent

Spacious, quiet property, ideal for a couple. Impressed that there was both a bath and shower. Usually the smaller properties do not have a bath, which is a great shame after a long day out on the hills! Location was fantastic if you like walking. Straight out onto the Shopshire way and half an hour to the top of the Long Mynd.
