From: €278 weekly Guests 2 Rooms 1 Bathroom 1

The Byre Self-Catering

Holiday home
The Byre is one of four brick built barn conversions in a farmyard location on a 100 acre working cattle farm on the outskirts of the Shropshire village of Leighton near to Ironbridge. Boasting one double bedroom with a shower room, this cottage can sleep two people. Elsewhere in the cottage is an open plan living area with a fitted kitchen, sitting room with an electric log effect stove and a dining area. To the exterior of the cottage is off road parking for 2 cars and a front sitting area with outdoor furniture and countryside views. Just four miles from the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge, The Byre is a wonderful holiday cottage for anyone wishing to explore this part of the country.

Area
The village of Leighton, which is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1087, stands in the heart of Shropshire, and is only four miles from the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge, home of the world's first iron-built bridge, built 1777-79. The Ironbridge Gorge is one of the country's most delightful tourist attractions; situated in a lovely wooded valley, the village has many pubs, restaurants, shops and tea rooms. A collection of industrial and Victorian themed museums make up the Ironbridge Museums, including the renowned Blist Hill Victorian Village, where you can step back in time. Enjoy the nearby medieval towns of Much Wenlock, Shrewsbury and Ludlow, as well as many NT properties including Attingham Hall and Park as well as the fascinating Wroxeter Roman City and Vineyard.

Region
A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

Larger than expected well equipped cottage in a wonderful location with marvellous views.. It is great to sit out at night and hear the silence whilst viewing the stars in the clear (no light pollution) skies. The hosts are your friends as well as the farm owners.

Very relaxing rest on a fairly remote location.. The owners were very nice and helpful when needed, the countryside is stunning with the river severn running through it,i would recommend this to anyone who likes the outdoor life.

Wonderfully peaceful location, very friendly hosts, lovely warm welcome from Molly the dog! As this is a working farm, lovely to see the hosts going about their business oN the farm. Interestingly, this location whilst isolated, is so close to local attractions, there was no long trek to see what was on offer. The standard of the accommodation is high, the Byre particularly spacious. Morrells Farm also plays host to Weddings and the facilities for this were beyond our expectations.....it’s not often we feel we would return to a property as there are so many Others to experience, but we will definitely be returning!

If you love farm animals especially cattle then you would love this great farm, very lovely hosts, off a single track lane but well worth it.. Pheasants, Deer beautiful scenery so if you love peace and quiet then this is the place for you. Though it is a working farm you do not need to do on wellies to walk around the yard, so great for Children who will love the cows. Derek the farmer and Molly his very friendly sheepdog are so welcoming. (moly took great delete in 'rounding up' our vehicle (a truck). LOL. Accommodations at the farm consists of various buildings from converted former cow sheds and other buildings including shepherds huts, all of character and charm.

The owners are lovely people, we arrived to be met by the farm dog and owner, who gave us a tour of our cottage and the facilities.. There were freshly, homemade cakes waiting for us on the table, which were lovely. Cows didn't make much noise and generally not much noise on the farm, so we slept well. The location is lovely, it's so quiet and relaxing, just what we needed. Thank you.

A very peaceful and relaxing time spent in the Byre.. We were warmly greeted by Derek and Molly the collie. A good location for visiting Ironbridge and other parts of Shropshire. Highlights being Shrewsbury and Blists Hill, part of the Ironbridge World Heritage site. There are many easily accessible pubs close by, making eating out an easy option.

Positive feedback written in visitors book apparently echoed the experience of other guests at the group of cottages.. Mr Harper appears to have a very well-run organisation here. The only negative was the unavailability of WIFI but engineers visited during our stay to rectify this and it will apparently be available next week.

We stayed at the Byre for a long weekend. It was a base for visiting our family and it was perfect. The surrounding area must be the nearest thing to heaven in the UK. We had views of the cattle feeding in the barns and the pretty farmyard. We had a warm welcome from the owner and the farm dog and we hope to return for a longer visit so we can do some walking.

The cottage was very comfortable and roomy for two people.. it was in a beautiful position just below The Wrekin and we had great weather. It is near to Ironbridge which we enjoyed visiting but even Ludlow wasn't that far away so we were able to go walking and sightseeing over much of Shropshire. The owners were very friendly.

We loved our holiday at Byre Cottage, it was just the break we needed, we recharged our batteries and thoroughly enjoyed the area. Our hosts were lovely, we found the whole farm lovely, and for a working farm it was so quiet. We would return. There was so much to do, and the scenery was amazing.

The cottage was cosy, compact and clean. The heating was good. We liked being right opposite the cattle shed and watching the young calves. The location was ideal for local attractions, including the Ironbridge museums.

Peaceful setting at the end of country lanes. One of a group, in a farmyard setting on a working farm. Received a warm welcome from the owners and a delicious sponge cake on the table ready for our first cuppa. Everywhere was spacious and well equipped. Electric heating provided instant heat when needed. Convenient to visit The Ironbridge Gorge and Museums. Only one small gripe! the mattress was very hard and could feel springs (we are used to memory foam!)

The cottage was a perfect size for two people and you could control the heating easily so that it was cosy when in, but not wasting energy when out.

A lovely cottage on a working farm with friendly owners who were there if you needed them but who respected your privacy. Very quiet and peaceful but Ironbridge, Wroxeter, Telford, Shrewsbury etc. were very easy to visit. The cake waiting for us on arrival was a very kind gesture by the owners and much appreciated. Even the weather was excellent!
