Me and my girlfriend got back last night from our weekend break at Willow Cottage. We both had a very good time. We were slightly apprehensive before visiting after reading some negative reviews but we needn't have worried because we personally had no problems at all. The cottage is in a superb setting and is very nicely decorated and furnished inside. On arrival I contacted Lorna (The owner) by phone to ask if we could use the hot tub. Despite her being at work she was still happy to talk me through how to remove the lid and operate it which was great. During our stay we used the tub several times and it was absolutely wonderful. We had booked to stay Saturday and Sunday night but sadly due to work we had to check out early which was a shame. I asked Lorna if it was ok to check out on Sunday Night instead of Monday morning and she was absolutely fine with this. In summary we really enjoyed our time at Willow Cottage and would definitely recommend it to people. Only negative I can think of would be the driveway leading from the road to the cottage. As mentioned in many reviews it is extremely rough but we just went at very low speed and the car was absolutely fine.

All instructions were great, the description was spot on.. The cottage was immaculate. All facilities, that were needed, were there. Our hosts were very accommodating. Beautiful surroundings, had a brilliant time and really enjoyed our holiday. Everything excellent .......so definitely recommend.

Cottage very compact and comfortable.. Ideal for relaxing in very picturesque surroundings. Local Pubs very accommodating, we ate in a different one every night and overall the food was better than average, with The lazy Trout in Meerbrooke coming out on top. Only negative would be the track to the Cottage, it was `tricky to drive` due to recent heavy rain but Lorna is in the process of repairing it. We would definitely stay here again.

Really disappointing stay. I don’t usually leave poor reviews but this experience warrants it. We felt like we paid a lot of money for this cottage for what we were met with. We arrived on the Friday night to find the cottage extremely dirty and damp: The bed sheets clearly had not been changed and were covered in stains and hair The rug in the kitchen was soaking wet, the sofas were covered in a layer of damp The plates and pans in the cupboards were covered in dried on food The surfaces were greasy and grimy All towels, tea towels and body towels smelt very bad, of sick in fact. Clearly had not been washed. Second bedroom - down the side of the bed was sopping wet This would all be bad enough but when we tried to resolve the issues by texting the owner, Lorna, on the Friday evening, we were met with extremely poor customer service. She came round the next morning in a foul mood and was extremely hostile towards me and my friend. We simply tried to explain the issues to her in a polite and friendly manner but she began shouting saying we simply ‘had a different of opinion’. She wouldn’t let us get a word in edgeways and was very intimidating. We did not wish to ruin our weekend so agreed to staying a second night if the property could be cleaned with the beds changed. We specifically asked for replacement towels as the ones we had were not clean. We came back from a lovely day in Leek (Leek is absolutely beautiful) to find one bed changed, however the property was still unclean with the the other issues unresolved. We were not given fresh towels. This was all such a shame given Leek is an absolutely stunning place. we will definitely return but NOT to this cottage. Do not waste your money!!!

The time you have to be out of hot tub at night 10.. 00 pm is a little early. And it would have been nice to leave at 11.00 am from cottage. I also think towels need be up graded or state take your own. No toiletries provided.

Cottage was very clean and cosy.. Ideal for a romantic mini break. You have to use Google maps on your mobile to locate the property. Driveway to the property is a little rough. Views are amazing.

Our break away was great, the cottage was everything we expected and Lorna was fab! She was friendly and even checked in on us when she hadn’t seen us for a while. The milk and cake were a nice added touch and we’ve recommended to everyone we know and are already looking at booking our next break away.

While the overall break was lovely and what I'd expected, there are a few concerns: - When arriving at the cottage, we'd called ahead an hour before arriving as the instruction on the booking told us, only to be shown into the cottage with "this is it".. No information on facilities etc. We had to contact Lorna later that evening to find out how to use the heating. - The hot tub was noted on the booking, however it failed to mention it's a shared hot tub, so you have to pre book time slots, which wasn't a huge issue really, but we also weren't shown how to use it, only where it was located. - One of the wetter days of our trip, we'd decided to stay in and watch films. Lorna knocked on our door with a guest she was hoping to show around the cottage. Considering we were only there 1 more night, I felt this was very inappropriate with us being there and all of our belongings out on show. She did apologise saying she thought we were out. To me, whether we are in or not, someone else shouldn't be brought in to the cottage with a guests personal items in there. She did apologise again the next morning when we left, but again reiterated that she thought we'd be out. That has left me feeling slightly uneasy that people could have been in while my personal items were there. Despite the above, the location was perfect and it was very much a relaxing break.

Owner did not want my 10 year old son to use hot tub even though stated on website could be used by children 10 years and above.. She stated this was because other families had not been using hot tub safely. She said had changed website and children were not allowed to use hot tub. However, when we checked it still stated children from age of ten could use. Only two towels for shower provided and these were threadbare. Unable to read dial on oven as worn away.

Hot tub not working and owner and Sykes offered no apology and just said no refunds, got an inflatable hot tub on 3rd night of 4 night stay, eventually offered partial refund after 2 days of Sykes ignoring my emails.. Cottage not good standard, dirty plates in cupboard, bathroom smelt of cigarette smoke, empty soap dispenser in bathroom, old thin small towels. Owner then disturbed us to ask why we had the heating on with window open (smoke detector went off while cooking, needed to air room). No privacy, not professional, constantly told how hot tub issue was inconvenient for her but no mention of inconvenience to us. Would never stay there again, shocking

We stayed at Hen Cloud Cottage in October 2016. The cottage itself was nice, tastefully decorated and had all the amenities we required. Well, almost. It was starting to look a little tired around the edges. In the bathroom the shower head was cracked and leaked, the extractor fan didn't really work (the owner had supplied a dehumidifier to run just outside the door after use), fittings were broken, etc. The kitchen area was good, but again there were niggles: The extractor fan hood light didn't work, and a few more pans would have been useful (we cooked there nearly every day due to dietary requirements) The heating system was good, and kept us toasty during our very autumnal stay. The hot tub was fun, but the lid was almost impossible to lift the lid as the gas-assist was broken. As mentioned previously, access to the property was up a very bumpy farm track, so if you don't have an all-wheel drive vehicle be prepared to take it very slowly. However, the scenery was stunning and the area was full of great places to visit, so the bumpy drive every morning was worth it! I did get the impression that it's the end of an era for the cottage though. The owner was a little rude and uninterested when we spoke to her (we had to ask for some bedding for the single bed, and had to go to her house in person as we had zero mobile signal and so couldn't ring her. When I jokingly mentioned the lack of phone signal she responded "Well, that's not my problem is it") which was a shame as previous reviewers had sung her praises. However, as the For Sale signs were up outside I think it was just a case of the business winding down after a good run. All in all, a very pleasant cottage that could do with a lick of paint and a freshen up - which I hope the next owners do as it really is a wonderful place.

The cottage is well located, it feels very isolated, but was actually not too far to get to pubs and shops. The conservatory on the front was a lovely sun trap and I enjoyed reading in there. The overall cleanliness, décor and comfort was outstanding and the automatic gate was very convenient!

We visited the Hen Cottage Annexe this weekend (late Nov 15) and stayed for two nights. The setting is wonderful (the track leading up is bumpy but not a problem at all) and the cottage is set in the hills. It's ideally situated for exploring in the Peak District, it feels out in the middle of nowhere (which is exactly what we wanted) but equally Leek is only 4 miles away and Buxton only around 10. The cottage itself is clean, comfortable, spacious, with nice roof windows and it's a perfect romantic getaway whether you want a base from which to explore, or somewhere to just relax (we did a bit of both). The heating is also really effective (not an exciting point(!) but if you travel in the winter the cottage retains heat really well and warms up to be really toasty very quickly if you've been out for the day. Lorna, the owner, is really friendly and cakes and milk were available on arrival which was a really nice touch. I would recommend this to anyone, it's a really nice place.

We took a short break of three nights in this delightful property. As we approached along the bumpy track we wondered what we would find at the end! A hidden treasure in the form of Hen Cloud annexe awaited us, just to the side of the owners' B & B and nestling close to the Roaches rocks and heather -covered hills. Lorna and Nick the owners welcomed us and had even left cake in the fridge for hungry travellers! The property was spotlessly clean and well laid out with everything we needed. Lots to do and see around here, whether it be walking, climbing or simply relaxing with visiting relatives as we did. Loved it and would definitely think about a return visit.
