Our host Alison has been extremely helpful.. She has been really responsive to our questions and offered us such a nice place to stay.

The cottage was an ideal getaway.. Great location for walking and birdwatching. Hawes only 6 miles away and the famous book town of Sedbergh is 12 miles away. The hosts were welcoming and friendly. No wonder guests return time and again. the kitchen is very well equipped with everything you are likely to need. The hosts provided a welcome tea tray and welcome pack of marmalade, milk, eggs, biscuits, tea and coffee which was a delightful surprise. The eggs were from their own chickens. The bathroom is well stocked including bath products for that long soak in the bath you might want after a day of walking or climbing mountains. There was even a little library on local books on the Dales.

Sycamore Cottage was warm, comfortable and situated in a beautiful area, ideal for bracing walks.. The owner, Alison was very helpful and had left nothing to chance as she had stocked the bathroom with all manner of toiletries, the kitchen with coffee ,tea, eggs, milk, biscuits and more. Very thoughtful.

The cottage was very well equipped, clean, with lots of added extras.. The location is brilliant, lots of walks directly from the door and plenty of information in the cottage to find the walks and inspire you to do them. The owners live next door to and were very friendly and helpful, but without bothering you. This holiday has helped prove that faith can be restored with Sykes's properties after the bad experience from earlier this year

The cottage was lovely and have everything you could possibly need.. The biscuits (for us and the dog), tea and coffee were very much appreciated on arrival. The cottage was warm and cosy with amazing views, and good pub just up the road (dog friendly) which served lovely food. The only thing the cottage doesn't have is Wi-Fi and neither O2 or Vodaphone have any phone signal, it didn't bother us as its nice to get away from it all, the pub up the road has Wi-Fi if you need it for planning your trips out. The owners were welcoming and friendly and we are planning to return soon.

We spent Christmas 2016 at Sycamore Cottage, Near Hawes. The cottage is delightful with everything you could possibly need. The kitchen is extremely well equipped so is the bathroom with lots of hot water and central heating which is on all the time for your comfort. Alison and Andrew left us a tea tray on arrival which was gratefully received. There is a lot of places to visit leaflets and books on the area. There are great views from the windows and a nice secure garden to the side. The cottage is approx 6 miles from Hawes and 1 mile to the local pub which is very handy. We had a great time exploring the area including a trip to the lakes. Fully recommend the cottage it is a gem!

Lovely cosy cottage with lots of added extras. Loved the welcome pack of marmalade, eggs, milk and cake plus doggy snack. Tea, coffee etc to start you off. Kitchen perfect for self catering, full oven etc. Beautiful area lots of not too far away villages to explore, the scenery is stunning. Outhouse ideal for taking muddy boots off and drying dogs (there are even doggy towels provided if needed) if it is wet/muddy. Loads of books etc, very informative information of the area available. Fully stocked bathroom too, what a treat. Totally relaxing, bonus of seeing the steam train passing by the window on occasion. Great garden for the dog but be aware that you cannot just let them out as there is a path/gate to go through and until you go through gate the road is right next to you.

August 2014
We had a great week in the Dales and beyond, centered in this lovely, cosy cottage. The owners are welcoming and are available if you need them, otherwise leaving you alone to enjoy the cottage. You really don't need to bring anything - previous guests have left a bathroom full of Radox so you know it's good walking country. The visitor book shows that people come back time and again - one guest was on their 14th visit which has to be a recommendation. As the previous reviewer mentions, the owners provide a welcome tray of cake, plus eggs, milk and home-made marmalade. We also enjoyed seeing the cottage from the steam train to Carlisle. Also recommend the Moorcock pub.

The bathroom was well stocked with bath foams etc and there were supplies available if you had left anything behind such as tooth brush etc, this was on a use and replace basis which we thought was an excellent idea. There was a welcoming tray of cake and biscuits along with some marmalade and fresh eggs from the farm. Liked the rural location and although directly on a B road it was very quiet. Great library of maps and walks covering the whole area.

My wife and I plus our golden retriever have just spent a week at Sycamore Cottage. This is a lovely cottage for two people with or without a dog. There was a lovely welcome package waiting for us which included a snack for our dog. The cottage has everything you will need for your stay with all power and heating included. The scenery around the cottage is wonderful and ideal for walking which we did most days. There is the Moorcock Inn (if you fancy a break from self catering) within walking distance at just a mile away which serves huge portions of food all day. For those that like trains the Settle and Carlisle railway is just a field away from the cottage. We will be returning later this year for another peaceful and restful holiday.
