September 2020
Perfect location for our first little holiday since the Covid 19 pandemic took hold and we had to cancel our holidays abroad.. Very comfortable - added bonus of two toilets/showers (always makes life easier even if there are only two of you!). Felt safe - clear that all Covid 19 initiatives regarding cleaning and the like had been taken very seriously. Excellent WiFi (not their fault that phone reception is bad). We were blessed with fantastic weather but, if we had been confined indoors because of continuous rain, I would have appreciated a better, larger TV (but that is nit-picking). Excellent situation to attend places like Rievaulx, Nunnington and Castle Howard; lots of local walks available (easily downloadable from the Howardian Hill website); a nice stroll in to Hovingham for the baker or newsagent. We didn't 'eat out' but plenty of pubs within easy reach. Good Sainsbury's Local at Malden. All in all, just great.

Lovely peaceful cottage far away from the noise of our town house.. Walks from the door, only wish our dog had survived to have joined us,he would have loved it.Phillipa and Clive perfect hosts so unobtrusive and respectful,Great cottage perfect hideaway loved it.

Excellent hosts Phillippa & Clive who went out of their way to welcome us & were a much appreciated book of knowledge of the surrounding area & recommendations .. Lovely to hear all about the history of the property , which was a little gem of a place to stay . Tastefully furnished & immaculately clean & comfortable. This area is one of outstanding beauty & we look forward to our next visit .

We had a good week and Clive was really friendly, welcoming and helpful.. The hallway was great to have for our bikes and other gear. Kitchen was fantastic, well equipped and loved the skylights. Really thoughtful to have maps of the area and a very informative book. Used the outside area for eating. The estate is beautiful and this is really quiet and peaceful. In terms of comfort - some upgrades are needed. The seating in the lounge is very uncomfortable if you want to relax and you might need a magnifier for the tv! The twin beds are also very dated and I could feel the springs through the bed. Towels and robes were very crispy and probably need updating too.

Lovely helpful, friendly & hospitable host.. Cottage in very quiet & tranquil setting. Only downside is, one has to drive out to eat/drink but only a mile or so walk to village so no matter. Perfect for peace & travelling to visit Coast, Dales, Moors, York & surrounding area.

We were given information to locate property however they neglected to advise cottage was behind high gates.. The road was awful with massive potholes. A disaster for a non 4wheel drive. The cottage was very nice for young active people. Our comments of unhappiness related to my wife who has mobility issues. There was an excellent wet room but as the door opening was blocked by the bed. Chairs and sofa too low and very uncomfortable.

Great very quiet cottage.. Lovely long walks with my dog . Cottage had a big wet room . Gowns included which was great . Could of done with 2 x 2 seater settees in . Did have a 2 seater bucket settee and an armchair but would of preferred 2 x 2 seaters. The beds were 2 single so would of loved a double bed but we loved our stay and would recommend this cottage as it was so peaceful and so quiet. We would go back for another stay .

It is relaxing, beautiful, quiet of town noises replaced with birdsong and accessible to nearby beauty/tourist spots..

The cottage was delightful, very comfortable and clean.. The location was very convenient for travelling to various Ryedale Festival venues and would also be a good base for exploring the North York moors. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Stable Cottage was wonderful! So clean and tidy and had everything we could possibly need and more. Such a peaceful location in marvelous countryside. We wished we had booked for longer and will definately be booking this cottage again in the future.

A perfect cottage in an idyllic part of the country.. The accommodation was modern, clean, fantastically equipped and the provision of dressing gowns was a welcome touch that we have never had before in all the cottages we’ve stayed in. A wonderfully warm welcome by the owner who was on hand to assist but certainly didn’t intrude. It doesn’t matter how beautiful the area you’re staying in is if the accommodation is lacking and stable cottage certainly wasn’t found wanting.

Upon arrival at Stable cottage, we received a warm welcome from the owners.. Once we entered the cottage we were disappointed. Thankfully we were only using as a base, so not planning on spending much time in the cottage. My husband is disabled and has problems with mobility, hence why we booked the cottage, wet room, disabled bar to hold onto by the toilet and all one level. The wet room you could hardly open the door as the bed was blocking the door, you could not even open the door half way! I have never stayed anywhere where the seating was so uncomfortable, so it was hard to relax, watch tv or read a book. The beds, it was like sleeping on boards, the bed linen was supposed to be white, but it gone that yellow colour, from where it had seen better days! On the surface it looked clean, but it wasn't, the lampshades had flies in them, cobwebs!!! If we had been there for more than 3 nights, I think we would have left and checked into a hotel or come home! We were really looking forward to spending some time on our own and relaxing, but we left very disappointed with the cottage and relived to come home.

We had a wonderful weeks holiday at Stable Cottage, the cottage was spotlessly clean and comfortable, we had everything we needed.. Philippa and Clive were excellent hosts who provided a lovely welcome with a home baked cake and flowers in the living room. The cottage was in a lovely peaceful setting but a brilliant base to explore the surrounding attractions. We can't wait to go back.

The stables, Phillipa and Clive, the area.. ..everything...utterly wonderful. I will be heading back there as soon as I can.

Cottage and our stay was lovely but the track leaxing to the cottage was full if potholes and some were quite deep.. Owners are aware and will be filling them in when the weather improves but anybody going there in next weeks needs to be aware of this. Other than this it was a truly peaceful break and owners are very helpful. *****OWNER RESPONSE***** Further to this feedback, please note that the road to Stable Cottage has been mended and there are now no potholes.

Great location, clean and well maintained, friendly hosts, ideal base to tour North Yorkshire Moors..

July 2017
Phillipa and Clive were the perfect hosts, they gave us both privacy when needed, but were always available to give us information about the places we wanted to visit & catered to all our needs, whether it was details of areas to walk with our dog or which pub/restaurants were dog friendly or just equipping us with first day essentials (including a lovely cake) upon our arrival.. The cottage was well equipped and although in a quiet & peaceful secluded spot, (which was ideal for us) it was also central to numerous towns and places of interest. As our dog plays a big part in our family, this cottage was the most perfect place for him to be free to run around, but be safe at the same time. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage to anyone who would like a quiet retreat, in which to relax and recharge your batteries, whilst still having the choice of a variety of activities literally on your doorstep. For us three (dog included), this 10 day holiday was "just perfect". Carole, Alan & Fudge (the dog).

Superb location, peaceful tranquil. Very friendly hosts, with very good local services. Being dog friendly as well is a real bonus. Generally, dog friendly accommodation is of not such a high standard. That is not the case with Stable Cottage.

The access in the cottage was excellent for our limited mobility needs. The cottage is in true countryside, yet close enough to York and the coast. It has its own court yard which meant the dog could be outside and safe without its lead. The owners were great hosts, providing plenty of maps of area if required. Will be going back.

Stable Cottage is a beautiful cottage with everything you require. It is cosy and warm with a huge shower room and plenty of hot water all the time. It is extremely clean and very well equipped and in a peaceful, tranquil location. There was lots of information provided so you can find out about the area and it was excellent too that it was pet friendly. The owners were very pleasant and where on hand all the time if you needed anything at all. The surrounding countryside is beautiful with lovely walks. A beautiful place to stay; a little gem.

From the outside the cottage appeared to be very small but once inside the available space has been used to its maximum potential. The en-suite wet room was certainly an added bonus. The owner was very welcoming but in no way intrusive. The cottage location means that walks are available from the door. I would happily recommend this cottage to others.

The cottage is in a first rate location on The Ebor Way. Walking is what we wanted to do and walking is what we did. We only travelled about 20 miles in the car all week. The walking was great for us and our dog Sam. After our long walks the cottage was a lovely place to come back to with its underfloor heating and the lovely wet room with plenty of hot water and a great shower. The owners, who live next door, are on hand if anything goes wrong.
