October 2020
Lovely cottage in a fantastic location.. Near to great walks around Windermere and Grizedale.
Mrs Wrightam, October 2020
September 2020
Gorgeous cottage in the countryside and literally on a working farm.. It’s clean and very, very comfortable - we had fantastic nights sleep. The hot tub was great and plastic glasses, robes and slippers were provided for it. In easy walking distance of Hawkshead either across the fields or on the roadside. We had a lovely girls weekend and would not hesitate to go back.

We had a fantastic week at Shepherds Cottage.. A great location to explore the Lakes and a only a short walk to Hawkshead where we enjoyed a couple of lovely meals. Grizedale forest is only a 5 minute drive away so we went on lots of walks and bike rides around the forest and then headed back to the cottage to enjoy the hot tub. Our 2 children (7&5) can’t wait to go back!

Really nice cottage , would stay again and recommend to friends .. One thing we feel could be improved on is the towel and dressing gown drying facilities. We had a lovely holiday.
Mr Rowe, July 2020

The cottage was beautiful.. We loved its setting and amazing views of the lake. It had everything you would need in the kitchen. The bedrooms were very comfortable. The bathroom had toiletries provided. The cottage is within a short 20 minute walk into the village where you could choose from four pubs to eat and drink and buy provisions in a few shops. Then back at the cottage the hot tub is a welcome bonus! The cottage is located on a working farm and the farmer and his wife are very welcoming and there if needed, while leaving you to enjoy your stay.

Great cottage - traditional but not at all dated.. Well kitted out with some lovely touches to make our stay feel special - we especially enjoyed the locally-roasted coffee. Felt like we were away from it all, but still an easy walk into Hawkshead. Views even better than the pictures! Tip: if you’re in the hot tub on a clear night, turn all the lights off - as a city dweller it was lovely to get a good view of the night sky.

Shepards cottage is gorgeous and we had a wonderful time.. Cannot fault the property. the chocolates and presco on arrival was a lovely touch and there was also milk in the fridge. the kitchen is very well equiped and the bed was so comfortable and someone with neck and back issues this is very important. we had a wonderful time and am hoping to book the cottage over new years 2020 just waiting for husbands dates on which his work will be closed. everything was fantastic , thank you.
Mrs Troughton, December 2019

The property is situated in hawkshead, a short walk of around 20 minutes through fields to the centre or a 5 minute drive.. The house was well equipped and the beds very comfortable.

October 2019
We had a brilliant week in a Shepherd’s Cottage! It is by far the nicest cottage we’ve stayed in. Coincidentally we have the same sofas at home. The hot tub was amazing and we used it every day and it was just what we needed after long day walking! The cottage has everything you could need and even has a daily milk delivery!! The owners are absolutely lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The cottage is also a short stroll from the village where is a great selection of pubs and cafes. We will be back!!!
Mrs Freeman, October 2019
September 2019
Everything.. From the moment we stepped foot in the property we had several wow moments. The décor, the furnishings, all to a high standard and super clean. The fact there were toiletries in the bathroom, which were divine, from the kitchen supplies of washing liquid and tea towel and dishcloth. All the little touches made it feel extra special. The Hot Tub was absolutely amazing. The fact fluffy towelling robes and slippers were supplied was fantastic, along with plastic champagne flutes all ready to use. It was in a brilliant location for walking and the village very accessible. The owners were available and on hand if anything was needed ( but it wasn't). All in all this is an extremely beautiful cottage set in a beautiful part of the Lake District. What more could you want. Even with lots of rain it was still amazing!
Mrs Boyle, September 2019
July 2019
I can’t recommend this property highly enough.. It is located in the most beautiful area with fantastic views over Esthwaite Water and is an easy walk away from Hawkshead where you can get all your grocery supplies. The property was clean, comfortable and well appointed with toiletries provided. There was also a blue tooth sound system in the cottage which was a bonus. The hot tub was great and robes and slippers were provided too. The owners were really friendly and helpful and had good suggestions about where to eat locally. All in all a charming property- we loved being on a working farm and woke up most mornings to find cows looking at us through the kitchen window!
Mrs Dyson, July 2019
May 2019
We had a wonderful time and will return soon.. A good location for walking without taking the car out. Also Hawkshead is great to pick up food items for walking as well as having some nice pubs at the end.

March 2019
The cottage was spotless and has everything you need.. The cake and pint of milk were a lovely welcome. The views are stunning and the hot tub was wonderful. Such a cosy and nice place to stay. Really comfy beds with decent pillows! The owners are lovely - there if you need them, but completely leave you to just do as you please. This is our favourite Sykes booking so Far.
Mrs Brathwaite, March 2019
March 2019
It was amazing, the cottage far outweighed our expectations in cleanliness, the way it was stocked with everything we needed, the location was stunning, we had a brilliant time..
Mr Mowles, March 2019
March 2019
Lovely place spotless and everything you could wish for.. Such a beautiful setting across from the water so peaceful and relaxing and the hot tub was great. There are walks from the door and its an easy 10 to15 mins walk into the village, I would take a torch/head torches for walking back as it is quite dark. Lisa made us feel at home and responded immediately when we had a couple of minor issues with the TV and finding the button to advance the heating after our soggy walk. Would definitely recommend a stay in this fab place.
Mrs Hardy, March 2019
February 2019
A quaint single storey cottage attached to the original farmhouse on a working farm.. The location is idyllic with fantastic views and it's a an enjoyable stroll into the pretty village of Hawkshead. Within easy reach of Windermere, Coniston and Grizedale Forest. The cottage is beautifully clean, well equipped, and modern with the magical bonus of a hot tub located in the small private courtyard. The owners are a delight and we'll certainly be returning. An ideal property for couples or like us a family of four - big thumbs up from us!
Mr Brown, February 2019

Shepherds Cottage was exactly as described.. It was clean, cosy and had lovely extra touches eg welcome food and drink, dressing gowns etc. We spent a lot of time in the hot tub and extra towels etc were supplied on request. This is the first time we have used Sykes Cottages but will do so again.

November 2018
Me and my boyfriend stayed here for a few days last week and it was amazing! We are both farmers so wanted a break away where we didn’t feel out of place. The cottage is beautiful and extremely comfortable! We ate out most days but the kitchen was very well equipped with everything you may need, there was even loacally produced milk in the fridge that was a lovely touch! I would definitely recommend staying here and hopefully we’ll stay here again before too long! It was just the break we needed I’m so glad we picked to stay here. Location is also fab as there were plenty of pubs and cafes to chose from aswell as being close to Windermere. Thank you for a fabulous stay!
Miss Mogford, November 2018

Warm and cosy cottage in a beautiful spot.. Fantastic trees to look out on as well as the lake. Hawkshead an easy walk by road or if you prefer an easy track. Very accessible to other parts of the southern lakes. A great place to stay.

October 2018
Lovely cottage …… in fact we have booked it again ! ! Walking from the cottage door and Lisa was super helpful with the two things we had forgotten - how to work the electric heaters and hot water bottles for my Mums bed . Thank you Lisa and Mike see you in 2020...…. oh and 2019 in the B+B side of things . Regards Hazel
Ms Caldwell, October 2018
September 2018
Everything was thought of and more.. I had originally booked a week in May but had to change it the day before due to a family bereavement. Lisa was very understanding and agreed to move it to September. The cottage was very roomy for two and would still accommodate four comfortably. The views of Esthwaite every morning were perfect and changed daily, we had breakfast outside on a couple of days. The kitchen was very well equipped and the bedroom cupboards contained ironing board, clothes horse, hairdriers, and there were toiletries in the bathroom. We didn't need to see Lisa much but she was very helpful by text beforehand and in person. I have recommended the cottage to several friends already and my grown-up girls want to stay there next year. I stayed at Howe Farm over 10 years ago on business, loved it then, and remembered they had a cottage, so booked and have had such a relaxing holiday. The area is lovely, not as busy as other lakeland centres which was perfect, plenty to see in Hawkshead too - we ate at the Queens Head on three evenings, and Tower Bank Arms, in Near Sawrey for a couple of lunches and would highly recommend them both. A great base from which to explore a very beautiful part of the country.
Mrs Chesters, September 2018
August 2018
What a glorious little gem this cottage is.. Beautifully appointed in a fantastic location. Our hosts could not have been more welcoming. Delicious milk, delightful animals, an amazing hot tub! All our needs were catered for, even reading materials. We shall certainly be returning. Thank you.
Mr Frear, August 2018
August 2018
Beautiful peaceful place.. We felt very at home and didn’t want to leave. Was lovely waking up to grazing cows and sheep and the scenery was breathtaking. The cottage was very cosy and well equipped. Hawkshead village was only a short walk through the fields on the lovely footpaths. The hot tub was really good and effective. Best holiday ever!
Mrs Raguet, August 2018
August 2018
Only gripe was chairs were to low for both of us bearing mind I am 6ft 4inches tall and my wife 5ft 2inches so good range..
Mr Davidson, August 2018
July 2018
We had a fabulous holiday and would highly recommend this cottage to others.. The views from the cottage were beautiful and the cottage itself was very well equipped and the provision of bath robes and slippers was very welcome after a session in the hot tub. The hosts Mike and Lisa were very welcoming and one of the highlights of our stay was the birth of baby calves who were put in the field outside of the cottage. We spent a lot of time just watching them interact. Hawkshead itself is less than a 10 minute walk from the cottage and has 4 very nice pubs plus cafes and shops and is very picturesque. We will be returning
Mr Lambert, July 2018

FAB accommodation, hosts very welcoming.. Beautiful part of the country, walkable into Hawkshead as the cottage is probably less than a mile. Cafes, restaurants and pubs there as well as specialty shops and a small supermarket. Loads of activities and villages and towns within 20 mins drive, idyllic holiday. We loved it.

April 2018
We had a fabulous time at shepherds cottage.. Amazing views and perfect location on footpath to Hawkshead. Cottage is lovely inside and lots of nice extra touches. Hot tub every evening helped relax after a days walking. Would definitely recommend.
Mrs Henshaw, April 2018
April 2018
Excellent accommodation, very clean and tidy, well equipped kitchen and lovely bedding and towels.. The main bedroom is a little on the small side...the wardrobe door doesn't open fully because the bed gets in the way but that's a minor niggle. The hot tub was a real treat and towelling robes and slippers are provided. The location is very peaceful with wonderful views. When choosing this cottage you should be aware that it is part of a working farm so there are animals, tractors and smells! We enjoyed the experience (baby lambs in the field at the front) and would highly recommend the property.
Miss Tindale, April 2018
March 2018

December 2017
The cottage was ideally placed in a very picturesque setting, within walking distance of Hawkshead.. The owners were very friendly and accomodating, we would consider returning. We didn't take advantage of the home cooked meals or breakfasts but would do this probably next time. A lovely time had by all of us. The only downside was that the cottage was a little cold at times before the timed heating came on.
Mrs Green, December 2017
