Holiday home
Samphire is a terraced cottage spread over four floors and is located in Deal in Kent. The cottage sleeps up to eight people and has two double bedrooms and a twin along with two single sofa beds. There are also a family bathroom, a fitted kitchen, a conservatory with a dining area and a sitting room. A further sitting room on the lower ground floor leads to a cellar with an old smuggler's tunnel! Outside is a courtyard with garden furniture. Just a couple of minutes' from the shops, bars, beach and castle, Samphire is a lovely family holiday cottage in historic Deal. Note: a refundable £150 Good Housekeeping Bond is required to be paid in advance. Note: This property can only accept check-ins on the Friday.

Over four floors. Three bedrooms: 1 x super-king size double, 1 x second floor double (access from one side only), 1 x second floor twin. Bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC. Basin and WC. Kitchen with breakfast bar (seats 2 adults). Sitting room. Lower ground floor sitting room with two single sofa beds (this has a low ceiling). Conservatory with dining area (seats 5 adults).

Area
The Georgian coastal town of Deal offers two castles, two small museums and two weekly markets, as well as a shops, pubs and restaurants. There are two golf courses, the Royal Cinque Ports and Kingsdown within an easy distance, plus Dover and Canterbury are within driving distance.

Kent is affectionately known as the Garden of England. Its history and heritage provide the region with a rich array of sightseeing possibilities, while the stunning choice of Blue Flag beaches offer the chance to enjoy the beautiful coastline.

Your home is in such a lovely part of Deal for pottering about, and the surrounding area is wonderful to explore too. We enjoyed swimming each day and then having just a short walk back home. The house has so many places to relax with the outside courtyard, as well as the dining area, and two lounges. We would love to come again with it feeling like a home from home. Many thanks, Susie.

I have stayed here a couple of times as it is perfectly located in the old part of Deal. The 3 bedrooms upstairs are bright and airy, comfy beds and quaint with a bathroom and anther seperate toilet. They have just renovated the kitchen seating area which was a lovely surprise, it is now a large, bright and sunny space givien access to a really cute little garden. We usually go out to the fabulous restuarants nearby but make breakfast in the morning, great kitchen with all the amenities as well as a washing machine and dish washer. There are 2 TV rooms which is great (one can double up as a snug/bedroom) and the best thing it is really quiet and peaceful. Great place for family and friends.

Me and my daughter and 2 sets of twins have just returned from a delightful visit at samphire house. The cottage is a listed property a stones throw from the beach. The cottage is on 4 floors and looks full of original features. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped and I'm so pleased they catered for children with a selection of plastic plates and beakers. Along with adequate crockery. These cottages are old quaint and delightful and modernisation would be a crime we loved it just the way it is.

Samphire Cottage is a lovely house situated in the conservation area of Deal.. It is very comfortable and though big, it is cosy. It is very clean. The stairs are steep but I was aware of this when I booked. The house was built in 1790 so lots of history. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything one needs, there is also a little courtyard/garden and a conservatory. The bedroom on the first floor is big, charming and characterful. In fact the whole house has a lot of character but with all the mod cons. The owner is very quick at answering queries and gives lots of information by email. The process of getting into the house was really easy and simple. I would definitely recommend the house.

We really enjoyed our stay at Samphire House.. It was a lovely location just minutes from the town and the beach and a fascinating building. Our 6 year old son loved spending a rainy day just exploring the house and playing some of the extensive collection of games there. We will definitely return some time.

First time visiting Deal, and we had a very good time.. Samphire Cottage was clean, cosy and pretty well-equipped: plenty of cups and plates and general utensils. There are two comfortable living rooms, one on the ground floor, the other in the basement. The street is quiet and so you can unpack the car by the door and then move on to find somewhere to park. It is a short walk to the beach and to the shops. There is a good fish ‘n’ chip take-away, the Fryer Tuck, about four minutes walk away (apparently they also deliver). We also had a nice meal at 81 Beach Street and enjoyed visiting the local film museum and exploring the basement tunnels of Deal Castle.

Very comprehensive briefing by the efficient owner.. Samphire House is very comfortable/clean and had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. The house is perfectly positioned near to the town centre and the sea-front...very quiet...and no sign of smugglers. Very good facilities in Deal itself (even in January!). AND...if you are a "park-runner", then the start of the Saturday 5km run is only 15 minutes' walk away!

Samphire House is in a beautiful location, just a few minutes walk from the pebbly beach in Deal. The house itself is over four floors, in the cellar is a lounge with two sofa beds. We made one up for our son to sleep on, but had to move him as the smell of damp was over powering. This room needs freshening up as the smell is quite bad. The middle floor (lower ground) was clean and quaint, with comfortable furniture in the lounge. The kitchen area was acceptable, with an oven, microwave and dishwasher. There was a narrow breakfast bar that could seat two people. The conservatory leads off from the kitchen. It had a table that seats four people. This led out to a small courtyard garden. Upstairs was a lovely master bedroom with a comfortable queen-size bed. Then there was the main bathroom with a toilet and a separate toilet next to it. On the top level, (with very steep stairs) were two further bedrooms. One with twin beds and one with a double bed. The house has lots of lovely original features, but could do with modernisation. The location was beautiful, but the smell from the damp cellar permeated throughout the house, which ruined our stay. I would not book this place again.

Samphire is a lovely property with plenty of period charm - sloping floors, steep stairwells, but it’s also very comfortable - cosy bedrooms, warm, great bathroom, very well equipped kitchen.. The location is superb - couple of minutes from both beach and shops, with some great little pubs around most corners! Highly recommend this place, can’t wait to return one day.

We are frequent visitors to Samphire and are pleased to note on each visit the regular and progressive refreshment of the cottage's decor and fittings whilst still retaining the overall cosy and comfortable ambiance of the property.. This is ideally demonstrated by the presence of a second sitting room, to which anyone seeking peace, quiet and solitude can retire! The cottage has everything you might need for a perfect holiday or stay. The town of Deal has also been refreshed recently with the opening of new bars, restaurants and retail outlets, although the demise of M & S is regrettable. The pier is currently being refurbished whilst the sea, the beach and the promenade walks are a constant. We regularly check the online view from the Waterfront camera to remind us of our last visit, and at the same time we look forward to our next stay in Samphire.

Lovely cottage very nicely done up and in a great location.. The two sitting rooms are snug and cosy and the kitchen well equipped. Loved the sunroom which was full of light and the outside space was perfect for sitting in and taking tea, reading the papers or for breakfast. The host was very helpful in recommending places to eat and visit. All in all a great stay and we'd definitely recommend the cottage for anyone wanting a break in Deal. It's minutes from the beach, the coastal path and the busy High St.

What a lovely cottage, perfect place for access to the town and the beach.. Parking about 4 mins walk and plenty to do in town. Main bedroom is huge, the room with the 2 single beds is a good size, the other double it not very big, just enough room for the bed and a bit of storage, used the cellar room as a bedroom instead. This is a brilliant stop for visits to all the castles and a day out in Canterbury. We went onto Calais from Dover and this was ideal, only 25 mins drive and we were in the queue for the ferry.

This is a great house, loads of character, feels cosy and homely.. It is in a good location close to the sea and town centre. The dining area is a little cramped but the kitchen facilities are good. The living areas are great and allow everyone to spread out. Would definitely book again.

Samphire suited us brilliantly.. We were a group of seven and the house accommodated us perfectly. It is very clean, warm and homely and anything we needed was to hand. The location could not be better. It felt 5 minutes walk from virtually anywhere and I'm sure we could hear the sea, although it was a particularly stormy day. Deal is a gorgeous town that is clearly on the up. it is catering more and more for the down for the weekend crowd without seeming to give up its "real heart". I couldn't recommend the house or town more highly.

Firstly, if you are looking for a minimalist house without personal items then this is not for you. If however, you want somewhere quirky, with steep stairs but lots of character that's in a really really great location and that has a little outside space for sitting and chatting and a separate second lower lounge snug (perfect for the football watchers amongst our group) and only a two minute walk from the beach or town, then this is for you. The cottage was well equipped, okay it's a little dated and maybe not to my taste but it may be to yours, and it was certainly clean enough (I'm not on Four in a Bed so I didn't lift the mattresses or inspect the bathroom with a microscope!) and the location was spot on being in the conservation area, and we got parked for free just up the road after unloading at the door. There were 5 of us and it's certainly big enough, but do be careful as if you aren't that mobile as the stairs are quite a challenge. Overall I would recommend if you want a comfortable weekend in Deal.

This was a charming cottage with plenty of quirky features, including sloping floors and steep spiral staircase.. The house was big enough for all 8 of us and was fabulously close to the beach. We loved Deal and the conservation area where this house is located. Very historic, comfortable and every need was catered for by the owner, from dishwasher tablets to board games!

The property had everything we required and lots of character.. It was in a fantastic location, close to the sea and minutes from shops and restaurants. The house was really well equipped and spacious. Lots of games, dvds for the children. It was beautifully clean. It is in the heart of historic Deal, with lots of interesting streets and houses to explore. We had a fantastic holiday and the property was perfect for us and our children (aged 15, 6 and 4). We highly recommend this property.

On the positive side, the location is super, but the house itself needs some serious refurbishment. Filthy taps and radiators, a broken shower fitting, rope on the stairs keeps popping out. We saw rodent droppings in cupboards (understandable in old houses but ought to be cleaned!). To make matters worse, there was broken glass all over the floor when we arrived and when I phoned the owner, she said: The housekeeper is on holiday, you'll have to clean up yourselves. Heating is controlled from her phone and the house can be cold downstairs, but you can bypass if you change the settings. All in all, only if you book last minute.

Attractive house with eveything you need, centrally located and ,although no parking at house, you could unload car and there was plenty of free parking nearby.. Deal is a lovely town- probably better in good weatherr and more buzz on working days.

A beautiful house in the heart of the historic and best part of Deal. Lots of character, period features but all the facilities you could wish for. Its a large house with lots of rooms to explore which my young son loved, particularly the den! We stay in deal every year and this is the best place we've found, we all loved it. Samphire House is set over four floors with wonderful rooms full of all the things you need for a perfect stay plus more! I would stay again in a heart beat, very close to the beach, town and local attractions. Deal is a beautiful seaside town, very well kept and welcoming. My family and I decided to go on the Wednesday and by the Thursday we were there! The owner, Cath, made the whole experience very easy. Many thanks, we'll be back!

Hello Cath, Thank for your contribution to what was an excellent holiday. We've been visiting Deal annually for over 12 years now and Samphire is easily one of the best holiday cottages we've ever stayed in; local to the seafront and high street and exceptionally well equipped - In addition to that there are the quaint and very comfortable aspects of the cottage itself. It is a real home from home. The only downside - which we couldn't have predicted - was that when we made the booking, I did not realise/know that I would be bedding in a new replacement knee! So the spiral staircases were a 'challenge', especially on the way down (!) Samphire is top of our list for our visit to Deal next year. Cheers and thanks once again. Jane, Stewart and Fiona

So easy to book.. We decided to go away on the Wednesday night and we're off on the Thursday. The location is beautiful, Deal is my new favourite place in the UK. The house we stayed in was ideal, lots of things to do, great facilities and warm and cosy for an October break, I would definitely go back.

A perfect holiday location in a beautiful homely house. Samphire Cottage is only 150 yards from the sea in one direction around the same distance from the high street in the other. Deal market, restaurants and coffee shops are all less than a 5 minute walk. We are planning on visiting Deal again we would love to stay in Samphire Cottage again.
