Just arrived today. Great location, but a cottage In need of some love and decoration . Clean but not welcoming. The smell of smoke is over- powering. Not what we expected for our Christmas cottage get away. Disappointed

Second time at cottage and love the place, needs to be cleaned much better, quite dirty, must try better especially with Covid, the cottage would benefit from having a mop and a Hoover, apart from that we will go back next year..

We left one day early because of the Corona Virus restrictions.. We couldn't get this message to your office phone, which was constantly engaged. I guess you were overwhelmed with calls from people wanting to change their plans. We left this message with your Cleaning company. I hope that they forwarded the message to you.

Brilliant location for Ambleside and well equipped cottage with amazing views of Ambleside from the lounge.. Very comfortable beds, lovely kitchen and a quiet location but literally a minute walk from the main high streets, restaurants and Tesco/Spar. Would highly recommend Doi Intanon if you like Thai food. Great for a family break.

This is the 4th time we've used this cottage, so it speaks for itself.. Four"irritations": 1. Only 1 key. That could be fixed easily and inexpensively and would make life a lot easier 2. No WiFi, not really 21st century 3. Recycling is a nightmare. Coming from a place where recycling is a part of life, finding the recycling centre then having to go to a separate site for glass!!!!! 4. The parking permit was on the floor with the post. Only found it after calling Sykes (& waiting for some time to get through)

This cottage was brilliant for our requirements , great location for shops, pub, cafe, lots to do and some great walks from Ambleside , good location if your thinking of walking/climbing up Scafell Pike, lovely view from lounge window of the town with the mountains in the background , defiantly return again..

Very lovely cottage in a great location for lots of sights around the Lake District.. Only point to make would be that the toilet room fan is quite noisy but you get used to it after the first night. The sofas could do with a spruce up they are fine and the lack of wifi is not a big deal, you go to the Lake District to enjoy the scenery not to stare at a device all day. Would recommend it to anyone looking at staying in the area. Although with steep stairs and a challenging driveway up to the property it wouldn't be suitable for those lesser able.

Property cleanliness below par.. Last guests bottles not disposed of. Sofa dirty needs replaced. Shower head mouldy, needs replaced. Needs a patio table outside and general tlc of any outside spaces. If these changes were made it would have made the difference to our enjoyment of the cottage and its prime location.

Lovely cottage, brilliant location and great views across Ambleside and surrounding hills.. The views from the living room, which was on the top floor, are wonderful, though it would probably be a good idea to make it clearer in the description of the cottage that the living accommodation is on 3 floors (kitchen on ground floor, bathroom on first floor, living room on second floor). We had no problems with lots of stairs, but some guests might struggle.

No working toilet during whole stay No updates on what was to be done from anyone.. I had to make every chase up enquiry. Compensation has been discussed as you agreed not acceptable and awaiting reply from yourselves once negotiations are complete with home owner

This cottage is in a great location just off the main street of Ambleside. Permit parking is included, we had no issues finding a spot close to the property. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a washing machine, dishwasher, clothes airer and iron provided for use. We didn't really utilise the lounge room as we were out most of the time, however the view is fantastic. The bedrooms are very comfortable, would recommend for families. Plenty of hot water for a lovely soak in the bath after a long walk. I don't make it to the Lakes as often as I would like, but next time I do I'd not hesitate to rebook at Rothay Cottage.

It was a lovely cottage, so close to all amenities.. We found the layout really quirky and fun. It was a great place to stay One thing to mention (and no it's not the wi fi as we enjoyed not being tied to the iPads) the main bed was not as comfy as the bed two single beds and perhaps the main bed could benefit a new mattress protector. Will we come back? You bet we will, it was fab! Thanks for a great week in The Lakes.

It was our 6th year in the same cottage its perfectly situated for all amenities and as a base for exploring the wider lake district..

Love the cottage, 3rd time we have used.. We have a few comments which could help: 1. We were focused on walking all week and only discovered on Friday evening that there were no recycling facilities at the cottage. It would help if, in the instructions, it showed exactly where the closest recycling location is. Sadly, bottles, plastics and paper went into the landfill rubbish 2. Four light bulbs were blown. We tried to call the owner on Saturday morning but no answer so had to leave a note for the cleaner. A mobile / email so that we could send a message would be useful One thing ref parking, it seemed impossible to get a space in the roads after between 6:00 / 6:30 and around 9:30. Despite all that, the cottage is great.

Good cottage.. Bed a little uncomfortable but other than that perfect. Excellent position in Ambleside with incredible views from the living room.

This is a lovely little terrace cottage.. The property was very clean, and the area, while close to the village shops, was generally quiet. There was noise from the next door rental on one night, but the owners of this property can't do anything about that. We liked being able to walk and to shop so conveniently. The property does need some minor TLC. The drying rack is broken and there was no lid for the tea pot. Also the outdoor seating area had not been cleaned post-winter. And we were left with 2 rolls of toilet paper for a week! Otherwise, we have no complaints, and really enjoyed our stay.

Strong smell of gloss paint on upper floors.. Unable to use the 2 single beds and lounge due to this smell. Made a few of us ill with head aches. Even with the windows open the smell was over whelming. Couch in lounge very dirty. Kitchen was lovely. Had everything we needed. Great location. Nice little cottage shame about the smell.

A very nice cottage, really close to the city center, with a wonderful view on the city from the second floor. The bedroom for the parents, the WC, and the bathroom are on the first floor. The bedroom for the children, and the living-room are on the second floor. With young children the stairs could be a problem especially during the night if they want to go to the toilets. We would have appreciated more cooking utensils and something to hang up the laundry, but that's because we have young children. Otherwise this cottage was really nice and clean.

November 2016
It's a lovely cottage, well equipped, in a great location for getting out to the fells with shops, pubs & restaurants in walking distance.. Parking can be a pain but that's what you get for being in the centre of Ambleside. This year we always go a space when needed although occasionally a few mins walk away. One small point, the same one we fed back last year, a second front door key would make life a lot easier as well as feeling we were covered should the unthinkable occur & a key was lost.

The cottage was clean and very well presented to make it welcoming. It was well furnished. It felt like home away from home. It is in a perfect location for accessing local places and central for venturing our further afield. We particularly found the availability of information leaflets about the area and activities very useful.
