Great location for walking extremely peaceful cottages is clean and comfortable hope to be going back in the future

Parking is very tight, not helped by neighbours who park right to the limits of the drive opening.. One neighbour had four vehicles parked outside and opposite their home. This made it very hard to reverse out of driveway and turn in road. We had to park opposite the house and someway up the hill. Repacking car and roof box was awkward. There needs to be a plunger in the house. The shower tray was blocked. Husband spent some time unblocking it. No phone numbers in house for essential services etc. We did not need them but other visitors might. Had hoped for some maps, info etc but appreciate these might have been removed because of Covid. We enjoyed our stay. The cottage was good value for what was a fairly late booking having been let down by a late cancellation of another booking. We found plenty to do in the area without having to drive far. Would recommend to anyone looking for a simple, comfortable base.

I took my kids for a short break so that they could all spend time together at Christmas. The cottage is the back half of a barn conversion. The neighbours are welcoming and willing to point out where the key is. I didn't know what to expect so we took extra duvets and blankets, but inside is very warm with night storage heaters that belt out heat. So much so that we slept with the windows open in December! :0 I also took kitchen equipment, but again, this was supplied in abundance, with even a pizza wheel! The wifi was easy to connect to and we managed to stream films using it. Blue John Cavern, Mam Tor and Speedwell Cavern are within walking distance with excellent underground trips available. We even bumped into Jarvis Cocker who had broken down just outside of Speedwell Cavern, which was a pleasant surprise for me, (if not Jarvis!). We traveled 5 miles to Morrisons in Buxton, only to find out on the drive home that Chapel-en-le-Frith has an Aldi about 1 mile away. The Wanted pub is 50 meters away and does an excellent Sunday lunch of turkey, beef or my personal favourite, lamb. I don't normally go back to the same place twice, but I may take my parents as I think they'd love it too.

August 2018

A lovely, small cottage.. Has most facilities you will need. Fridge, not fridge freezer, so don't bring too much frozen food. Iron and ironing board. While we were there the dishwasher did not even dissolve the wrapper of the dishwasher tablets, let alone dissolve the tablet itself. Needs looking into. Be aware there is no soap etc. provided, but it didn't matter too much to us. There's a Tesco superstore 10 minutes drive away, northbound up the A6. It's fantastically situated for visits to the Hope Valley; Castleton; Edale and the reservoirs, as well as being close to Buxton and the charming village of Tideswell and the stupendous walk across the hilltop from Mam Tor, also just 10 minutes away. Had a great stay. No complaints. The TV is much newer than the publicity shots show, so HDMI may be possible (didn't actually check it, to be honest).

Lovely cottage in a good location for exploring the Peaks.. Enjoyed the garden with views out over the countryside. The cottage was small but big enough for us and our 2 teenagers. Had a great weeks holiday.

Although this little cottage was clean, snug and well maintained we were alittle disappointed with its location.. The cottage itself is attached behind an end terrace meaning there is only one very small window (which overlooks the side of next doors house) in the lounge, we personally found this rather oppressing.

The greeting was warm and welcoming from Debbie and her delightful daughter.. The cottage was excellent, warm, cosy, all mod-cons that you need and extremely well maintained and spotless. The location was totally perfect overlooking the peak district and a real treat after a hectic London working life. We took a couple of walks directly from the cottage door which was our plan for our two night stay. We even popped into The Wanted pub for a coffee and sandwich and our two dogs were very welcome, wish we still had proper community pubs like that down south! Thank you Debbie for a perfect rural break away from our hectic lives :-) Would absolutely return.

Arrived for a four night stay after a very heavy snowfall. However, owners had cleared entrance to drive and cottage. Lovely local walks, so driving is not really necessary. Castleton, Wynatts Pass, Snake Pass, Goyt Valley, Derwent Dams, Chatsworth House must be a high priority for you to visit, and are a short drive away. Temperatures were -5 overnight, but the cottage was always extremely cosy and warm. Windows can still be opened for fresh air with our effecting the cottage temperatures. All home comforts well maintained, DVD films and books also left for visitors to use. The cottage is so well maintained and immaculate inside. Fresh bed linen, towels available to. The beds were very comfortable, with extra bedding should You be cold...I really do doubt this though! After a long day walking in sub zero temps, the lovely hot shower was most welcoming, even allowing you to warm your towels up on the heated towel rack. Lovely secluded garden with amazing views over the peaks. Overall, this cottage is an all year luxury accommodation. I will most certainly return no matter what season. Do not miss an opportunity to stay here! I will be back soon.

The cottage was cosy and the wonderful views outside and the peace and quiet made this a special holiday.. The location is ideal for sightseeing in any direction. The pub down the road serves good home made food. We loved the walks on our doorstep. Castleton being a short distance away is a good starting point for more walking and we had good meals in the selection of pubs on offer there. When we plan to come to the Peak District again we will definitely stay at Rose Barn. One of the best holidays we've had.

On arrival it was pouring with rain and we had two dogs and all the luggage to unload. I found it difficult to reverse my medium sized car into the parking area as it is quite narrow, A large car would never fit. Once in, I was only able to open a door on one side of the vehicle. Having said that, we were always able to find a space outside to park on the roadside. The garden is alot smaller than it looks in the photos and the grass could have done with cutting too. When we stayed in one evening, we found the furniture was not very comfortable to sit on for long periods. Apart from the above, we did love the cottage and the way it was set out. There was also everything you could need, from clothes pegs to a bottle opener, I have never been to a better equipped Cotage. Having the two dogs it would have been nice to be able to let them into the garden from the door, but the door led onto the driveway, with nothing to stop them getting onto the road, this meant we had to put leads on to take them for a wee. The views are lovely from the garden, looking over the open fields and we walked most days from the cottage, without the need to take the car. The pub at the bottom of the road is very handy and we ate there a couple of nights, food was excellent with a good choice on the menu. Everything was clean, neat and tidy in the cottage and we loved the decor, simple but effective. We left the dogs one day in the local kennels as they were not interested in our shopping day! These were located about three miles from the cottage and very reasonable for price. We would consider going back again and loved the area

The house is very well situated for visitors to the Peaks. Contemporary fittings, clean and comfortable. We particularly liked the dishwasher. No holiday let should really be without one!! Internet access was missed, however. Seating in the lounge was just adequate for the 4 of us, High tog polyester duvets may be too hot for some and one single bed mattress was a bit uncomfortable for an adult. Recommended, good value.
