Must fix wifi.. Not working for bulk of 5 day stay. An issue because we had teenagers with + phones had no signal (normally good, but not at xmas) Staircase very steep - Not suited to over 80's. Overall house great + gardens + Bellingham Pet friendly, space for dog crate at bottom of stairs. Lounge with real fire a lovely place to be !!!

We had a wonderful family weekend in this cottage.. The beds are very comfortable with lovely linen. The kitchen is small, but has all you would need. The oven isn’t as fast as a modern oven, but cooked baked potatoes and casseroles well. The bathroom is small, but has a good shower. The cottage has a log fire which was lovely after a long walk, and we were lucky enough to have a clear sky and see the stars. We would hopefully return one day.

The cooker needs replaced.. It’s a gas cooker and the igniter doesn’t work so they have provided a gas lighter to use. This is fine for the rings but you have to get on your hands and knees to light the oven. Lighting the oven isn’t worth the effort as it fails to get hot enough to cook anything! We had small sausages in there for over an hour before we gave up and zapped them in the microwave!

A cosy, peaceful cottage in superb surroundings.. A warm welcome surprise touch in the fresh flowers, milk and cake. This was our 3rd visit in 8/9 months and hope to be back in the Autumn. It is nice to know the cottage is warm, well equiped and offers a great time no matter what the weather- plenty of books, games puzzles etc as well as outdoor seating etc. A perfect private space to relax, and is ideal for dogs. No phone signal [ major plus point for us] but you can get incoming land line calls . Easy to contact the owners if there is a need to.

Set in a fantastic location for walking and biking, Rievers Rest was a well presented, well facilitated property that instantly made you feel at home.. With 3 good sized, and comfy bedrooms, an amicable bathroom and quaint lounge / diner, this is a great place to stay with the family. You will be close to Bellingham for all your needs and also central to most attractions / places to visit, which makes for a great place to stay if you're looking to enjoy the history of Northumbria, not to mention that you will be set in a fabulous Dark Sky area, meaning you wont need much encouragement to venture out on the evening and look at the stars. I highly recommend this property and will no doubt visit again soon.

The cottage is on a county estate but as it's the end of the block you don't feel as though you are attached at all. The living room is beautiful with a great coal fire, we had going nearly all the time. Loved it. We did walk to the village, in the pouring rain, and found everyone we met to be welcoming and friendly, except the butcher who blamed us for the weather!! Ha ha! His steak pies were delicious though. We only used the big bedroom and found it a little cold but the heavyweight duvet soon took care of that. We'd recommend this cottage to anyone except anyone who might have difficulty with the stairs. The fully equipped kitchen come complete witha washer dryer which was well used after our trip to Hadrian's Wall, yup, it rained again but didn't spoil our visit. Stay here with confidence.

Reiver's Rest gave us a charming, spacious, tranquil base for our stay in Northumberland. It had an ambience of comfort, heritage, and timeless solidity, and provided a perfect home-from-home for us.

August 2015
The property was in a beautiful, remote location but near enough to a village to get supplies easily. The lounge/dining room was particularly charming, and our children loved the open fire (even in August!). The grounds are enormous and perfect for children to kick a ball, have a swing or go exploring. We really enjoyed our tour of the manor house which we had on our last day.

We stayed here for a week with our 2 children. The cottage was perfect for our needs, with an enormous garden with plenty of room for kicking a ball around and even a swing. The cottage was a little more rustic than I was expecting but very charming and comfortable. Our favourite room was the lounge / dining room which had an open fire, comfortable lounges and a big antique dining table. The kitchen was small but adequate, with an eclectic collection of cooking utensils. Nearest village (Bellingham) was about 2-3km away and had all the necessary shops for supplies. The only thing I would say is that the stairs are very steep and the shower is an over-bath arrangement, so I would not recommend Riever's Rest for elderly guests. Otherwise, though, we very much enjoyed our stay and I would happily come again.

We recently stayed at Reiver's Rest, and found it to be the perfect place to explore the area. The owners could not have been more friendly and accommodating, The property was clean and comfortable - the only hard thing was getting out of bed each morning! We visitied Hadrian's Wall, the coast, and the border abbeys in nearby Scotland. The small villages in the area were all a delight- good restaurants and pubs. We recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a relaxing and comfortable home-away-from -home. Thank you William and Anna for making our stay in Northumberland so special.

Its a great cottage , 3 large bedrooms with comfortable beds, lots of hot water and power shower, log fire, internet. Pets are welcome downstairs but gardens out side are not fenced so if you pet wanders this will be an issue. Stairs are steep and could be a risk for small children, elderly and infirm

Location was great; for outdoor activities, good local village amenities and some great restaurants not too far away. The cottage had everything you needed and a lot of privacy. The woodland walks straight from the door were very nice.

We stayed here with friends over New Year and it was a great place for cosy evenings in front of the fire, a celebration meal and interesting places to visit. It's a shame there is only one bathroom. It would be difficult if you were 6 adults. The standard of furnishing is excellent. The beds and bedding super comfortable. We walked at Kielder Water and to the waterfall at Bellingham. Lots more to do than we had time for.

This cottage is super - in a beautiful rural location with woodland walks and fields of sheep on the door step. Kielder with all of its facilities is close and is the village of Bellignham (small supermarket, petrol, pubs, etc). It is very peaceful, with the only disturbance being the noise of the guinea fowl. The cottage itself is comfortable, with great bedrooms. The kitchen and bathroom are functional though I could imagine with a full house they could be a bit cramped. It is dog friendly - and ours enjoyed his stay as well! Do note no mobile phone signal, but there is wi-fi and a landline for incoming emergency calls.

Our week at Reivers Rest has been a delight. The house is part of the converted stables of Hesleyside Hall and a lovely quiet location. In fact the only noise to be heard is from the guinea fowl outside in the grounds. The house is clean, comfortable and well furnished. We had a tour of Hesleyside Hall with the owners William and Anna Charlton, for a small fee. The tour is fascinating and lovely to see the evidence of a family home as well as an historic property which has been in the same family since 1343. Reivers Rest is in a beautiful location, close to Bellingham, Kielder and Hadrians Wall. A favourite walk was Hareshaw Linn in Bellingham. Recommended highly for families and pet owners.

This is a lovely cottage in a great location. The sitting room and bedrooms are very comfortable. It is beautifully furnished. Reivers Rest was one of the most comfortable holiday homes we have stayed in. The overall effect was charming and all the furnishings were of a very high quality. The owners were close by if anything went wrong (which it didn't!) We were warm, there was loads of hot water, kitchen was large, huge sitting room with open fire was a delight, and the beds were heavenly. A true countryside experience with loads of wildlife to watch for. Lots of lovely walks to take with the pleasure of returning to this spacious and welcoming cottage.

Extremely comfortable and cosy cottage in a spectacular setting. Beds wonderful - so comfy. Clean and decor traditional. Great to have the stable next door to store bikes too. Really enjoyed the access to great walking and an open fire in the evening. The walks on the estate were lovely too. Location wonderful as you feel remote, very peaceful, but only a short trip to Bellingham.

January 2014
The cottage was set in the grounds of a beautiful Georgian manor house. It really felt like you were stepping back in time but with the luxury comforts of today. Our dogs felt like they had their own theme park with acres of estate that the owners family kindly let us use as our own. The location was perfect, the owners couldn't be nicer and the cottage was a real home from home.

December 2013
The cottage was beautiful. The owners were very friendly and helpful, and welcomed us to a warm cottage with an open fire. We visited many places around Kielder with the cottage being in such a perfect location, including the observatory. The sky was amazing. To think that you could see the Milky Way in England was more than spectacular, when you come from a city with few stars in the sky visible. Long mountain walks, villages and Kielder lake were all excellent sites to see and visit in the area. Wonderful for those who want to go on an adventure. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our short holiday, and would most definitely come back again!

I can highly recommend Hesleyside Hall's Stable Block cottage. We stayed for a week and were very impressed with the quality of the accommodation and the friendliness of the Charlton family. The bedrooms had wonderfully comfortable beds and the decor was 'posh' country style, the lounge was windfall with comfy sofas and beautiful antique furniture including a huge dining table and the kitchen was small but everything you need is provided. In my opinion the only thing missing was a second toilet/bathroom - sleeping 6 this would have made mornings slightly slicker. Overall highly recommended.

Reiver's Rest is ideal for those looking for peace and quiet, with wildlife arriving on your doorstep at any given moment. The accommodation and contents are of a very high standard, with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. I would love to return to this accommodation in the winter, as being on the edge of Keilder National Park the dark skies will be wonderful. Many thanks to William and anna for sharing part of their home and also to Susan the housekeeper. I could run out of superlatives if I carry on! One other note - a car is a must as there are so many areas of interest in the vicinity.
