Poppy Lodge is an ideal holiday venue, within easy reach of local attractions in both Somerset and Dorset. It is located in a most delightful and peaceful village, set amongst picturesque countryside and very near the local shop and a lovely pub restaurant. The lodge is situated in a quiet location with a view across open fields to the rear of the building. The owners live close by and are very helpful and friendly. The accommodation is very well laid out, extremely comfortable, very well-equipped and there is heating available if necessary. We also appreciated the significant effort that had been made to maintain the poppy theme throughout the lodge. The addition of a hand towel and egg poacher in the kitchen would have been useful and a dishwasher instead of a washing machine would be more convenient. Nevertheless it is by far the best self-catering accommodation that we have ever stayed in and is highly recommended.

We would rather have had a dishwasher than a washing machine.. It also might be good to have a couple of fans for the very hot weather. Apart from that we had a very nice break, the Lodge was comfortable and the closeness of the Hotel and Village Store were great

We had a wonderful family holiday staying in The Poppy Lodge.. It was very clean and comfortable, the facilities were excellent, everything you could have wanted. The owners were wonderful, we had a small issue where the microwave broke, we informed them, they took it away and the next day it was replaced with a brand new one! It was so lovely having chickens one side of the lodge and then a field out the back where there were sometimes cows, and they came right up to the fence which my kids loved lol. This is a fantastic holiday home, and we'd definitely go back and stay again!

Great location for visiting family in Sherborne and Bristol.. Not far off the A303. Had the weather been better then this would have been a lovely place to start and finish walks. Due to travel delay (channel ferry) we arrived far later then expected but this wasn't a problem. After a quick phone call alternative arrangements were made but the hosts still came out to welcome us when we arrived at 19:00. 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms were a bonus for us, as our kids like their own rooms. There was plenty of cupboard space not only in the bedrooms but also the kitchen and extra storage in the hall. . The kitchen had enough crockery and cooking gear for guests. Plenty of parking outside the lodge. The lodge was warm and welcoming and the nods to the name, Poppy Lodge, were fun. The garden and terrace looked lovely - places to enjoy in the summer. The eggs from the chickens were delicious ;-) We will certainly return to Poppy Lodge in the future. No dish washer (my fault for missing this but no big deal to wash up!) or hair drier just remember to bring the latter when you com

The lodge is in a beautiful village & the lodge living space is a lot bigger then the pictures show & getting to see the chickens & cows every morning was a added bonus.. The lodge was spotless & nice welcome pack off milk, biscuits & fresh eggs. In the kitchen bowls etc could be added to wash vegetables etc in also perhaps a dish to serve up in especially when there 6 off you(like salad bowl) also bigger chopping boards. The bedrooms are not a bad size for time you in them but think the storage in wardrobes could be a bit better with few shelves put in as no chest off drawers etc. Would defently stay again & recommend it for peace & quite

Very nice cottage in a lovely rural area.. Loads of space for the whole family, and we enjoyed having our meals on the patio which is very well furnished too. We recommend Poppy Lodge to any family in search of a quiet location. The next-door chickens are a bonus attraction for young - and less young - children !

Dirty carpets, washing machine full of towels, missing towels in two of the bedrooms, no mirrors in the two twin bedrooms, no hooks in bathrooms or bedrooms, no shelves for toiletries in en-suite bathroom, no remote control for tv in master bedroom, patio was cleaned at our request.. Shelves needed inside wardrobes. Box of windscreen wipers found under settee in living room. We believe the cottage is too small for six adults, especially the twin bedrooms. We would strongly recommend that owners should live in their rental accommodation for at least a couple of days and would then notice the little things missing, e.g. hooks.

Poppy Lodge was in a great setting - very pretty gardens.. Chickens alongside were very 'watchable' , It was on a sloping plot with quite steep steps to the front door, but also a ramp to the side door. The lounge area was spacious but there was not a lot of room in the bedrooms so would be difficult for someone with mobility difficulties. We loved the atmosphere in the Lodge and the way it was furnished was lovely. It was very well equipped. We found lovely tea rooms in Sherborne and also Sherborne Castle is worth a visit. Wincanton is not far away and The Wagtail next to the Travelodge there offered good meals at ridiculously low prices. The Haynes Motor Museum is a short distance away and also worth a visit. We had a lovely week and thank the owners for letting us stay in their beautifully clean and well maintained lodge. It is worth noting that the directions to Poppy Lodge are in need of updating as the garage is no longer there.

Great holiday lodge.. Bedrooms were nicely set up with lovely decor - all wardrobes were very spacious (but could do with some extra coat hangers & additional storage solutions such as shelves or drawers). Both bathrooms were superb with exceptional power showers & lots of hot water - main bathroom was very, very spacious. Dining table was very large with comfortable chairs, perfect for our family meals. Plenty of crockery & cutlery in the kitchen including plastic cups for the children. Saucepans weren't great, could do with an improved upgrade on these. Sofas were very comfortable, seated 4 adults no problem (not sure where an additional 2 adults would have sat though, our party was 4 adults & 2 children). 2 good flat screen TVs, 1 in the lounge area & 1 in the main bedroom, both attached to the wall - which was much appreciated as they were out of reach of the children. We would have appreciated the TV in the lounge area being larger, it would have made our film viewing in the evening much more enjoyable. Lovely garden & patio area with great views over the field behind us - this would benefit from a gate at the side of the lodge for peace of mind for any guests with children or dogs. Added highlight for us & our children was being right next to the chicken run, we got to watch them every morning after breakfast. The owners were all very friendly & had left some provisions at the lodge for when we arrived, which was a much appreciated welcome. Poppy Lodge is in a great location, this is a beautiful area & we had some great days out.

Superb accommodation in a beautiful setting. Friendly and helpful owners on hand if you need them but not at all intrusive. The location is ideal for sightseeing and we visited the Muchelnley Abbey, Montacute House, Sherbourne castle and gardens, Glastonbury Abbey and Stonehenge. Our dog was on holiday with us and we were able to take him to all of these places which allowed dogs access to the grounds so we all enjoyed our holiday. My husband enjoyed the Haynes Motor museum and the Fleet Air Museum which is a short journey away. Poppy Lodge was the perfect place to return to each day. It is clean, warm and very comfortable. For provisions there is a Sainsburys supermarket in nearby Sherborne or Morrisons and Lidl in Wincanton. If you don't want to bother to cook there is a very nice hotel a short walk from the lodge serving delicious food.

Fantastic find. Excellent, clean accommodation with everything you could need. Comfortable first class furnishings. Loved the chickens and enjoyed seeing the 'girls' every day. Close to the lovely town of Sherborne, not far to Haynes Motor Museum and close to supermarkets etc. Weymouth about 1 hour away. Lovely Easter break and the owners even left us a chocolate chicken treat.
