July 2020
I booked this cottage for myself, my girlfriend and my dog to self isolate in during the COVID pandemic. We actually had to change our booking because of travel and the owner was very communicative and accommodating. The cottage is beautiful, it's set in it's own ground, fenced and gated, with a large lawn which easily accommodates playing with my labrador. It is set on a footpath which makes a quick walk of the dog very easy. The nearest other building is about a 1/4 mile away, but it's only 15 mins to drive to the supermarket so you're secluded but not cut off. The cottage has essentially no sound proofing and you can hear the birds all day and night, which is either something you love or dislike. There is a road right next to the cottage but it is rarely traveled and the occasional car going past is a nice thing to notice rather than an annoyance. The kitchen, though small, is very well appointed, we were able to cook pretty much everything we could want. There was some oil/salt/flour etc left in the kitchen cupboards, I assume by previous guests but it's a great help. Washing machine and washing line. Good sofa in the living room, good dining table and chairs, bathroom is downstairs, small like the kitchen but fine. It has a bath and a shower, plenty of hot water. Plug sockets everywhere. Good wifi. Lovely wood fire with fuel. The master bedroom is beautiful, high ceiling with exposed beams. Large bed which didn't give me back ache. Plenty of furniture to store things. The second bedroom had 2 single beds in it. It was very small and a bit of a maze to navigate in and out of. Fine for kids and for us as just a spare space. A few things to prepare for -The staircase is steep and narrow -Fair amount of flies -Bring some blankets, it's not cold but there aren't any -Downstairs is beautiful stone flags and tile which are cold, bring slippers -Small/few windows so fairly dark inside (it is an old cottage) -Sound travels easily in the house, doors are very loud to open and close. I'd say that it is a perfect retreat for a young couple, but it would not be so hot for a family that includes a young couple. If you get what I mean. If you catch my drift. Everyone will hear you. We came here to self isolate so I can't say anything about what is around. But as a peaceful secluded retreat for a couple it is excellent. I would come again and recommend.

The cottage was full of character and very well equipped.. The enclosed garden was ideal for playing with our dog. The Yew Tree Inn is a few minutes walk away and is a proper country pub with friendly staff and locals, serving excellent home cooked food, dogs welcome.

We enjoyed our time in the cottage and surrounding area The main downside was .... We enjoyed our time in the cottage and surrounding area The main downside was the downstairs bathroom during the night as my wife has to have the need for frequent use The wooden staircase did not help But in spite of that very nice and comfortable

A really pretty, homely cottage.. When we arrived the heating had been put on for us.....so was already toasty warm. In fact we didn’t need the wood burner, although it had been made up in readiness, and was ready to go! There was milk in the fridge, coffee, tea, sugar etc. Plenty of pots and pans. Fresh linen. Couldn’t fault anything! Thank you!

Point cottage is a quaint property in a good location in Preston on Wye, Herefordshire.. There is a dog friendly pub within a few minutes walk and there is a Post Office and shop within 4 miles. The area is lovely and there is lots to do within a 20 mile radius. There is a bridleway on the doorstep which is ideal for an early morning dog walk. The Point is well appointed and has a kitchen with enough equipment to make substantial meals. The large bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of storage for clothes. We were only two adults and a large dog so the cottage was plenty big enough for us - six would be a squeeze, but possible if not a bit cosy! The furnishings are tastful, the cottage is very clean, oodles of hot water and the garden is large enough for dogs/children to run around. The owners kindly left us some milk for our 1st cuppa and there was kitchen rolls, washing up liquid, cling film, foil and toilet rolls supplied, so I needn’t have taken our own! The only negatives of the cottage is the steep stairs (the toilet and bathroom are down stairs - going to the loo in the night took concentration!) and hard stone floors which is all part and parcel of a very old property. I shall pack my slippers for next time!

The cottage is in a wonderful location, it's quiet and very peaceful.. The carefully enclosed garden was great for our dogs, giving them ample space to play. The cottage itself however, did not live up to the description given on Sykes website. It is marketed as being able to accommodate six, but cramming six people into that cottage would be impossible. According to the description, the sofa can be converted into a bed sufficiently large for two people to sleep on, that along with the two upstairs bedrooms qualifies it to sleep six. The ancient, grubby sofa was extremely uncomfortable to sit on and could never provide a satisfactory bed for two. Even more evidence came in the form of the dining suite. - are meals to be taken in relays so that six people can use the four chairs? The dissatisfaction we felt in regard to Point Cottage was due to the unrealistic description presented on the website. Please could you ensure that descriptions accurately reflect the facts of the accommodation. In this case the cottage sleeps four and the standard of the furnishings and facilities definitely do not merit the four tick rating it has. It does not approach luxury as is suggested, but provides adequate accommodation.

Enjoyed our stay at Point Cottage.. Very quaint old cottage but nicely looked after with what appeared to be a relatively new (but small) kitchen. Stairs are quite steep and narrow, and bathroom is downstairs so a little tricky in the middle of the night! Garden an absolute joy, our 2 dogs enjoyed their time running about and we were happy knowing it was secure. Would recommend staying here for peace and quiet.

May 2018
The cottage very clean and in a brilliant location.. Ideal for our 2 dogs. Very peaceful. Plenty of walks without using the car The Yew tree pub was very friendly and offered excellent food. We are hoping to visit again later in the year.

May 2018
It's a stunning ancient cottage with brilliant fixtures and unexpected extras and refurbished wonderfully.. Great garden for the kids to play in, wonderful footpaths around the corner. We really loved it and would return. The only thing we weren't sure about is whether we should be drinking the water that's gone through a water softener, but we got bottled water for that.

April 2018
Very disappointed with this cottage.. We arrived on a bright sunny afternoon and were met at the back door with a very unpleasant smell of diesel oil which we traced to the cabinet beside the door and the smell entered the cottage as we left the door open to allow some light into the narrow kitchen. We found the interior of the cottage to be very dark unlike the photos on the website and needed the lights to be on. The L shaped sofa bed in the sitting area looked very grubby and was uncomfortable to sit on as it is so worn and soft. The room also has a very small television. The photo on the website is inaccurate and there is now a log burner in the empty chimney space. The wooden stairs to the bedrooms are steep with an acute turn at the top where the treads become vary narrow at one side and although a hand rail is provided, extreme care needs to be taken when descending. Reference to this should be included in the cottage description or a photo included as these may not suit everyone. The ground floor bathroom is very basic but looks ok. There should also be photos of the two bedrooms online, the larger of which is very dark and uninviting. The twin room that we required was not prepared for us. The room is very small with two beds which were unmade with no bed linen available. The sagging mattresses on both beds are poor quality and well past their best and were covered with worn out mattress protectors with a folded duvet on each. There is no evidence of the "quality furnishings" referred to in the description on the online listing. We phoned Sykes to advise them that we had made the decision not stay in this cottage and the agent tried to contact the owner on our behalf both by phone and email but subsequently told us that she had been unable to do so until after the weekend. The response from the cottage owner that Sykes eventually passed on to us was very dismissive of our complaint and which we are dissatisfied with. The cottage has undoubtedly been renovated from a smaller building and is in a lovely part of Herefordshire. The addition of a small field at the back is ideal for dog owners and children but the actual accommodation, in our opinion, is certainly not 4 star standard and our experience left us very disappointed.

I had to phone three times before I got through to the person with details re key collection the day before we left.. Previously I left my contact details but they didn't get back to me. This cottage is ok but very dark. Facilities were adequate, just. So it was ok, but I wouldn't have wanted to be there more than three nights.

We have just returned from a relaxing week at Point Cottage which we found to be very comfortable, relaxing and well equipped. Large grassed garden ideal for dogs and children playing plus the bonus of a network of bridleways and footpaths from the door to enjoy traffic free walking. The cottage is well equipped with the bonus of a freezer in the garden building, nearest local store is 3 miles away in Madley and there are a couple of supermarkets within 8 miles in Hereford. This is a beautiful part of the UK, friendly villagers, good local pub within a 10 min walk of the cottage. WIFI is reliable and a good bonus. The cottage has been beautifully restored with exposed beams and timbers (but with the bonus of no low ceilings)! Very clean cottage, we will return.

Expected local areas where dogs could run free but had to keep them on lead.. However, there was plenty of secure space in cottage grounds which was excellent

Point Cottage is a real gem. Located between Hereford and Hay, off the beaten track but still easy to get to. On arrival the first thing you notice is the pure bliss of solitude apart from the sheep, birds and the sound of distant farm machinery. There were 5 of us, 2 adults and 3 kids so sleeping arrangements were 1 double room, 1 twin room and a sofa bed downstairs for the grumpy teenager, perfect. This cottage is obviously popular with Dog owners as per the reviews, but there is not a single trace of dogs having been there, it's that clean and fresh. Plenty of supplies in the lovely well equipped kitchen. Dining room and living room extremely cosy and warm. Downstairs Bathroom with shower is very clean and good water pressure in shower. Wi-Fi for the techies and teens. On a summers evening it was pure heaven sitting outside the house having a local ale and just looking up into the pitch black sky and viewing the stars. Something we don't get here in the South East. There really isn't a down side to staying at Point Cottage and I haven't even pointed out the great price for booking.

My wife & I recently stayed at Point Cottage. Really impressed with its traditionalist appearance and how well appointed it was together with the internal refurbishment. Our dog loved it there and it was a great location for exploring the Wye valley. I would thoroughly recommend this cottage and in our humble opinion it was great value.

May 2016
We spent a very relaxing, peaceful week at Point Cottage. The property stands alone along a country lane but is only 1/4 mile from Preston on Wye village. The bridle path alongside the cottage is excellent for dog walking as the only vehicles you might come across is the odd tractor in the surrounding fields. The cottage has a large garden, mainly grass, and is ideal for children and dogs. The large shed is really useful and ideal for wet coats and muddy boots after a day's walking.

One of the best cottages my husband and I have stayed in. The cottage has a very welcoming feel about it , a real home from home. It is very well stocked and has everything you would need for a self catering holiday. They do provide bed linen and towels. It has a very large garden which is secure and perfect for children and dogs. The floors inside the property are stone so no worries with dogs about ruining carpets.we went in the autumn and the house heated up quickley and was very cosy, we used the log burner a couple of times which was very easy to use. The bed and lounge furniture is very comfortable. The bottle milk was very much appreciated and the flowers lovely. They have lots of leaflets and info on things to see and do. One of our favourite places being symonds yat. Lots of lovely walks on the doorsteps including a bridlepath right outside the gate, fab for dogs. I would highly recommend this cottage

The position of the cottage being so remote and having an enclosed garden was great for dogs. The cottage was warm, well appointed and cosy. The outbuilding was great for storing muddy boots and having a hose to clean the dog was a bonus. Also the use of the washing machine was a great help in dealing with wet muddy walking clothes. A lovely property that I would highly recommend.

December 2012
Really well revamped cottage with excellent sized fully enclosed garden for the dog. Excellent facilities for barbecue and owners extremely friendly and accommodating. Would definitely consider again as while slightly isolated location makes it really personal but still within 2 mins walk of the pub. Only tiny downer was it could probably do with a slightly bigger TV for the evenings in.

From the moment we pulled up on the drive, it felt as if we'd come home. Point cottage is extremely comfortable and tastefully decorated, with a pleasant garden big enough for the kids to burn off some steam. The owners are very friendly and eager to make your holiday experience as pain-free as possible. Indeed, we have never rented a holiday cottage so well stocked (even cleaning equipment, barbeque tools and logs for the fire). If there was one negative it was the lack of a freezer but even this wasn't disastrous; after all, Hereford is only a short drive away. We would highly recommend Point cottage to anyone wanting to explore the myriad delights of Herefordshire - especially anyone with an interest in nature.

Lovely rural cottage set just outside a peaceful village. Owner on hand when required otherwise left alone to reflect the peace and quiet. Great enclosed garden for dog. Massive outbuilding for storage or relaxing. Only criticism is that as we stayed for 2 weeks a freezer would have been nice as there are no shops in the village. Would certainly return.
