Last minute booking and I couldn't be happier with my choice.. Stunning location, close enough to the likes of Keswick but far enough away for a relax without the crowds. The hosts were fantastic as was the property. Warm, welcoming and extremely clean. The pride in the place really does show all the way through the cottage. Well equipped kitchen and cooking facilities. The extra touches like the welcome basket, fresh bread and milk, a towel and treats for the dog is what sets places like this apart. We will definitely be returning. Thank you

Everything was perfect and we felt very safe because the owner was following the government guide lines in respect of Covid 19.. We had a wonderful holiday as usual.

August 2020
We had such a warm welcome at Piggery Cottage.. Mrs. Wilson has thought of everything to make guests as comfortable as possible. We were grateful for the amazing welcome hamper, including milk for a cuppa on arrival and her infamous lemon drizzle cake! It was fantastic to see the cows every morning and we made friends with two calves while we were there. We can’t recommend Piggery Cottage highly enough- it was lovely.

Piggery Cottage was a delight and Lorna & Jim were so nice and very helpful.. The homemade cake and welcome basket, the chocolates and sweets were a lovely touch (not good for the waistline though!). We loved being shown around the farm and seeing the cows being milked. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to come back and stay another time.

The holiday let owner was really lovely, leaving all sorts of goodies in the welcome pack, even home baking! We had lots of chats and she made us feel so at home. We will definitely be staying at the piggery cottage again.

We had a most enjoyable stay at piggery cottage.. The owners were really lovely people and so helpful. The cottage itself was really nice and comfortable. Very well equipped. The welcome pack was amazing. Homemade cakes!. We will definitely be going back there next year. Loved every minute.

Our fifth time back at Piggery Cottage; as peaceful and relaxing as ever.. Launa (and Jim) have created a real gem, with its own unique character and style. A great location, with straightforward access to the Solway coast and into the Lakes, along with nearby Wigton, we are looking forward to visiting again soon!

We couldn’t have asked for a better welcome from the property owner for our stay.. Our time there was very enjoyable and our host couldn’t have been more accommodating. We would use Sykes website again and certainly recommend this accommodation. Thank you!

Set is in a rural location but only a 5 minute drive from Wigton where 3 supermarkets and other local shops will ensure you will have all the supplies you need.. Plenty of eating places in the town and nearby. The cottage more than lives up to the photographs in the listing. It has all the facilities you could wish for, a home from home. Mrs. Wilson (owner) is a very welcoming host, fresh flowers in the cottage and a welcome pack was greatly appreciated and enjoyed. Although there was a comprehensive information folder outlining the operation of appliances etc she spent the time to show us where everything was and how they worked. There were no problems during our stay but I am confident, had there been, it would have been quickly sorted. A plus for us was the ability to take our dog with us. We used this as a base to explore the hills and trails around Keswick. There is a book in the cottage listing walks suitable for dogs which we used. I found the walks Aira Force and Friar's Crag very rewarding for us all. Friar's Crag was the longer of the two walks and there was the bonus of stopping at the Mary Mount Hotel (dog friendly) for a coffee about the halfway point. Aira Force is equally dog friendly having both a kiosk and a café. One day the weather was clagged in and our walk in the Ullswater area would have been a waste of time so we walked up "Binsey", a hill which is not to far away from the cottage. On a good day I'm told you have great views of the surrounding area, the Solway coast, Keswick and Derwent water, perhaps next time. Returned to cottage, dried off, and spent an enjoyable afternoon exploring Cockermouth and Maryport. All in all a great few days away and I would have no hesitation staying in the cottage again

We had a great week at piggery cottage.. we were made so welcome by Lorna and Jim. We were in Wigton for a family wedding they helped to make the day go very smoothly by being very understanding. Piggery Cottage was just what we needed for a relaxing break in peace and quiet.. Lorna and her family are so friendly and go the extra mile to make you feel at home, including their pets. Rupert the dog is just lovely and very friendly. The welcome pack was more than we expected and the cakes were just scrummy. Would definitely look at going there again. This is the first time we have booked with Sykes and if this is the quality of your cottages then we will be looking at booking with you again.

As always we have had a lovely time at Piggery Cottage, it's so lovely being there, we get lots of lovely goodies and to see the cows, sheep as well as the lovely cats and the Golden Retriever is great.. The countryside is lovely and there are so many places to visit. We will return again.

March 2018
The owners were particularly lovely, welcoming and couldnt do more for you.. The accomodation was spotlessly clean and the welcome pack was comprenhensive and much appreciated after our 4 hour drive. Being shown around the working farm by the owners was an unexpected treat that we found fascinating and enjoyable. The only slight issue we experienced was the wifi wasnt working but in fairness there wasnt anything the owners could do as they were awaiting BT to fix a fault their end. All in all we had a great week away and the weather was great.

We booked the piggery for a five day break including Christmas Day. What a great choice it was! The cottage is located on a quiet farm and is attached to the owners home. The barn conversion has been done to a high standard with underfloor heating and good shower. They have also managed to retain the stunning original features and character. The cottage is kitted out with everything you could possibly need! This was very handy since we were cooking Christmas dinner. We particularly appreciated the lovely welcome hamper, bread and fridge stocked with milk and butter. Saved us having to dash to the shops on arrival! The owners were extremely friendly and welcoming of both us and our dog. We would 100% recommend this property and hope to stay again ourselves in the future.

What can I really say about this cottage that hasn’t already been said.. We loved our stay here from the moment we walked into the cottage. It was Devine so quaint well maintained a home from home. Lorna and Jim have provided everything you need there. The welcome package was amazing filled with wonderful goodies. And cakes made for us to have a nice cuppa with after a long journey from Cornwall, a lovely touch. Carlisle was my home town so I knew how far we were away from the nearest town, pub, shop etc. The farm is a working farm so there is livestock around inc free range hens. Three friendly sheep in the field opposite the cottage also, so please respect the fact that if you take your dog with u that they remain on the lead when on the farm. Lorna has a wonderful retriever dog called Rupert that my collie Daisy fell madly in love with

The hosts were very welcoming and kind. The cottage was kitted out with every appliance we could have possibly dreamt of needing, and then some. Piggery cottage is in an idyllic location, with beautiful views. The owner made us feel very welcome, it felt more like home than a rented accommodation. The facilities are excellent, everything was pristine and so comfortable, we had a very relaxing week and will definitely return.

Just returned from a week at Piggery Cottage and feel very relaxed. The owners make you feel very welcome from the minute you arrive, there is a lovely basket of treats and delicious home made cakes, perfect after the journey there. The cottage is very cosy, with a warm atmosphere, helped by the underfloor heating and comfortable furnishings, and everything you require is provided. It is in a good location on a farm next to the owners home, with beautiful countryside on your doorstep, and not far from Keswick, Carlisle and Cockermouth. We will definitely return in the future.

September 2015
Our stay at Piggery Cottage was blessed with fine weather. Always a bonus in this North Western part of the UK. Lorna and Jim were extremely helpful and friendly and a joy to exchange stories with. The cottage is what we would call "superior" with every convenience available. Even set aside a large enclosed field for our Greyhound Cassie to stretch out. With Keswick and Cockermouth being only 30 minutes drive away the location is ideal for exploring the Northern Lakes and coast. Nice quiet location for peaceful relaxation. We intend to return.

June 2015
This property was the best we have ever stayed in- The owner clearly went out her way to ensure the guests were made very welcome and had a comfortable stay. Superb location away from the hustle and bustle of a hectic life; quiet and within easy reach of the Lake District and Southern Scotland. 'B' and 'C' roads are so quiet it is a pleasure to drive at an unhurried pace. To chill out, this is the place to stay.

We were warmly welcomed by the lovely owner, she asked us on more than one occasion if we needed anything, was a fabulous host. The cottage was perfect, in an idyllic location for the Lakes but near enough to shops for necessities. Will DEFINITELY be going back. Couldn't fault it.
Mr Kimminau
April 2015
It was peaceful and quiet. The facilities were advertised as dog friendly and they were actually dog fantastic. An excellent place to stay with your canine family members.
Bobkimminau
April 2015
Spent a week away from the hustle and bustle just the two of us and the pooches. This choice was selected as it is advertised as dog friendly. It is not only dog friendly it is dog fantastic. The Owners have a new puppy themselves having recently lost their older dogs, so are completely intune with the pooches needs. It has quiet unused (at the time we were there) paddocks for use by your canines and this makes it invaluable if you have weather as we did , 6days of rain and high winds, but thats Cumbria for you. Be respectful of the surrounding livestock and you will have a fantasticly peaceful break. The accomodation is recently completed but homely and one of the best equipped and goody packed that we have visited in the lakes (but I wont spoil the surprises!). Lounge and both bedrooms spacious and relaxing. Upstairs shower room and downstairs toilet small but easy to use. Be mindful when booking that if you intend to self cater for more than two adults and two small children, it will take some discipline in the food prep area as it is not large. Preparing and sitting and eating in the kitchen/diner is a challenge for two adults. More than that could prove interesting. That said we managed easily so dont let it put you off if you're not intending to eat in all the time. Access too and from is easy and the owners are very freindly and have some great tales to tell. Will definately use again if we go to this part of Cumbria again.
Mrs Crowsley
March 2015

February 2015
It was remiss of me not to write a review earlier, I've only just realised I hadn't done it. We spent Xmas at the Piggery and it was an absolute delight. Beautifully decorated for the occasion, Lorna did herself proud. For anyone wanting an above average break, this is for you. From the moment you arrive, until the moment you leave, you are made to feel .......well, ......just part of things. An excellent welcome pack is just the beginning, Comfortable, clean beyond words, restful, warm, a feeling of country living, with chickens, cats, dogs, sheep and a couple of horses for good measure to welcome you when you step outside each morning. Bliss. Ideal for the Northern lakes, and all that they offer, the Piggery is an easy drive from North or South, and an easy 15/20 minutes from Carlisle on a straight road. My congratulations to Jim & Lorna on an excellent country retreat.

February 2015
Piggery cottage is just stunning. The views are fantastic. If you are looking for peace and quiet then Piggery Cottage is just the place. You wouldnt have know that it was on a working farm. The owners Lorna and Jim were very welcoming and the welcome pack that was left for us was more than you would ever expect. Bread, butter, milk, fresh orange juice, home made lemon drizzle cake (our favourite), home made biscuits, crisps, sweets, dog treats. We didnt want for anything. Wigton is a just a short drive away and has various shops, takeaways and more. We have recommended Piggery Cottage to friends already and will be returning next year.

August 2014
Lovely property, with a friendly and accommodating hostess. Made us feel very welcome, including the use of a fenced field so our blind and deaf dogs could be let off lead for the first time. The cottage came stocked with enough home-baked goods to keep us going for a fortnight! Living area is very cosy, perfect for winding down after a day of hiking. It's a bit of a drive to get to any of the main tourist spots, although even the southern lakes are manageable. With scenery like that, it's a pleasant journey regardless. The only downside for us was that the mattress wasn't the best, but nevertheless - highly recommended.
Mr Butler

We couldn't find fault with Piggery Cottage at all, it was absolutely beautiful. It was to a very high standard. We have stayed in many cottages and the Piggery was certainly up there with the best. The owners were very friendly and helpful at all times and the welcome pack was unbelievable. I would recommend Piggery cottage to anyone; a couple on their own, a small family and someone with a dog too.

My partner and I were looking for somewhere to stay with our dog in the Lake District. Wigton was a nice area, Keswick a short drive away. Our cottage was lovely, very clean and tidy. Surrounded by fields for our dog to run in the morning. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking to take a short break away to the Lake District.

5 star luxury is what you get at Piggery Cottage! Everything has been thought of at this holiday let. From a family who have stayed in numerous holiday lets we are more than qualified to say that the attention to detail is unparalleled. The cottage is absolutely spotless. There is even a super hairdresser at the holiday-let. The Wilson family are the most fantastic hosts! They offered us the most fabulous introduction to Cumbria. Piggery Cottages' location is superb, within easy reach of Carlisle (castle/theatre/shopping), Keswick (picturesque market town - lots of outdoor clothing shops the delightful Booths supermarket), Cockermouth (beautiful historic town), Allonby (the place for ice cream) and Silloth (the beach), and Wigton for amenities. Simply perfect!
