Property Description

Holiday home
Oaklea is a semi-detached single-storey cottage in the village of Ravenstonedale. The cottage has a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, a bathroom, kitchen and sitting room with dining area. Outside there is off road parking and a rear lawned garden with furniture. Oaklea is ideally placed for visiting both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, making it a great base at any time of year.

Accomodation Details
All ground floor. Two bedrooms: 1 x double, 1 x twin. Bathroom with bath, separate shower, basin and WC. Kitchen. Utility. Sitting room with dining area and electric fire.

Area
A small and compact village, Ravenstonedale has much to offer the visitor seeking a quieter experience than the nearby Lake District National Park provides. It is a pretty village; traditional whitewashed stone cottages and stone walls border the fields, whilst the Raven brook trickles by. St Oswald's church is largely from the Georgian era, comprising a solid structure with a simple square tower. In addition, there are elements from older buildings incorporated in it, and the base of a Saxon cross just outside. To the north of the church, excavations in 1920 revealed the foundations of a 13th Century Gilbertine Abbey. Ravenstonedale is a fantastic base for exploring the Lakes to the west or the Yorkshire Dales, just a short drive to the east. Those who prefer to stay closer to home can explore the Howgill Fells, the rounded hills which signal the start of the Lakeland ranges.

Region
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

Amenities
Oil central heating with electric fire. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, TV with Freeview, WiFi. Fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Cot on request. Ample off road parking. Lawned garden with furniture. One well-behaved dog welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop 5 miles, pub 3 mins walk.

Extremely clean and spacious and a delightful place to stay.. Mr and Mrs Ellis are friendly and very helpful owners. Lovely village and excellent walking if you like to avoid the crowds. Within easy reach of both Sedbergh and Kirkby Stephen.

Exceptionally clean, considerable thought had gone into post-Covid preparations.. Spoke to owner outdoors on arrival, and occasionally in passing during the week. A welcome change of scene in a very comfortable cottage.

Quiet setting with good walks for our dog.. The owner's we're on site to give advice when asked but were in no way intrusive, very relaxing break.

Location: easy access from M6 and there are many good walks within a short distance.. Although there are no shops in the village, the Black Swan has very good quality dining and is less than 10 minute walk. Kirkby Stephen is about a 10 minute drive and has a good range of shops. The house is extremely well equipped and to a high standard. All the rooms are a good size and the kitchen facilities excellent. Wifi works well and parking is easy. The location is quiet and the house itself is very comfortable. Sykes should make it clear that there is a good supply of towels and tea towels, despite what it states in their emails. It would also be helpful to correct the location information on Google which has the house in the wrong place.

Location would be better suited to Walkers and Cyclist more than just people going out for a day..

Limited hot water for showers and very hard towels to dry ourselves on if I’d known I would of taken my own .. Plus we invited my son to stay but owners didn’t seem to pleased thought we had rented the cottage not the bedrooms ☹️

Another absolutely superb property of Sykes.. The owners of Oaklea have been renting out their property for a long time and therefore knew exactly what people wanted. Ravenstonedale is in a wonderful central position for exploring this lovely area.

Oaklea was a lovely place to stay and the owners very friendly and helpful.. But three time now I have booked a holiday with Sykes using a discount voucher on line, and each time I have had to ring and chase up the refund due. Once is forgivable, twice is incompetent and three times makes me angry.

A lovely cottage with friendly owners living next door.. Quite remote, so own transport essential. Only issue is lack of choice of freeview channels for wet evenings.

We received a warm welcome on arrival to this lovely warm cottage. It was very clean & spacious with a well equipped kitchen. The position was ideal to explore the Dales, the Lakes & County Durham. Plenty of parking and walks from the cottage. Several decent pubs to eat nearby and very easy to get back to M6 motorway. Many thanks.

What a find! Friendly owners next door, 2 decent pubs (for beer and food) on the doorstep and Howgill Fells for walking in in solitude but being close enough to the village of RavenstoneDale for a quick return. Just 8 minutes from the M6 too (rather than an hour or more trying to get into the National Park). Would definitely stay here again.
