October 2021
Myself, my wife and our two dogs stayed here, first week in October 2021. The owners are fantastic and very helpful, the cottage is well presented and clean. The log burner was great to have on at night and the under floor heating was great for the dogs. The owners allow you wander around the farm and if you want to you can go and see the cows being milked. The Raw milk from here is amazing and so very fresh, the chickens, goats, cows and brucie (our nickname for him) the bull. Whilst we were there we seen squirrels, deers, rabbits, pheasants and buzzards. This is a very quiet location and allows you to relax. Also Dalston is well worth a visit if you have dogs or you want supplies.

This is one of the most peaceful farms I have ever visited, despite 150 cows being milked twice a day.. We were not disturbed by any of the activities taking place on the farm. The location is ideal for visiting the Lake District, Pennines, Northumberland and even southern Scotland. Very reasonably priced and considerably cheaper than accommodation available in the Lake District which is only a 40 minute drive away. The accommodation is clean and comfortable, with everything that you need for either a weekend or longer stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definately book it again.

The cottage was absolutely delightful.. It was clean, homely and had everything you could need for your stay. A lovely welcome pack was left and the only thing missing was the opportunity to say thank you in person due to Covid. We would most definitely recommend!

We had a wonderful week at nuthatch, the cottage is equipped with everything you need.. Welcome pack of wine, milk, water and fruit which is a lovely touch. The cottage was immaculately clean and extremely comfortable, the enclosed garden was great for the dogs.

The cottage was beautiful and in a lovely, peaceful setting.. Ideal for people wanting to relax, and walk dogs. The only one thing we would mention is that there is not much room to cook if you enjoy it. Because it was cold and wet we took enough shopping to last the week, but only one smallish, low cupboard to store it. Apart from that, the cottage is well furnished, very warm, lovely bathroom. Nice welcome pack including wine, milk, fruit and biscuits. Thank you.

Website needs updating as the nearest pub mentioned is actually closed so there is nothing for more than 3 miles

My wife and I spent a week at nuthatch cottage in April with our pet dog Harvey and enjoyed it so much we spent another week there in September.. It was a lovely comfortable welcoming holiday. On both occasions there was a bottle of wine and a carton of milk in the fridge ready for us getting there, a lovely gesture. The surrounding views from the cottage where beautiful , and so easy getting to the lakes and Scotland. So much to do and go. We have booked to go to their other cottage woodpecker next April . Lovely stay . Thanks Paul , Alyson and Harvey

July 2018
The accommodation exceeded our expectations.. The cottage was clean and very well looked after. The welcome pack of milk, tea, coffee, fruit and a bottle of wine was a very nice touch. We met the owner once and was she very friendly. There is a lovely walk down into a secluded valley which has some modern sculptures in it. This is right outside the door. Although this is a working dairy farm it in no way intrudes on the holiday experience. We would highly recommend it as a base for exploring the lakes.

It stated on the details about this cottage that it had wifi.. wifi was very very limited. The owners did state on a welcome sheet that it was down to an issue with BT due to being too far from the exchange. Although the cottage was only for 2 people the fridge provide could have been bigger as you couldn't store much food and you ad to go to the shop more often. Where the cottage was situated, which was on a farm there was a lot of flies. There was fly spray provided but that wasn't enough to get rid of them. Maybe a fly zapper could be fitted? The cottage itself was situated in most quiet of places and so peaceful. I would consider going back as this was the main reason for picking it.

Lovely weekend at Nuthatch cottage with our two dogs. The cottage had everything you could think of and was so comfortable and spotlessly clean. The welcome wine, milk and fruit was a lovely gesture. The cottage is ideal for dogs and our two loved the front garden that was safe and secure for them to run around. Lovely location, with some lovely walks for dog lovers close by. Would highly recommend and definitely return.

Had a fantastic few days in the middle of nowhere with the wife and dogs during the May Bank Holiday weekend heatwave.. Was a good opportunity to recharge the batteries, switch off and take in the local Lake District scenery. Highly recommended and will return again if the chance arises. Thanks to all involved.

December 2017
The cottage was really lovely, it was a cold day when we arrived and the cottage was really warm and cosy.. The welcome pack was really appreciated as was the Christmas tree. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept well, the bathroom was really clean and the shower was really efficient. The heating worked so well we were too hot and had to turn it off. We had our two dogs with us and appreciated the fenced garden, and they loved the walks around the cottage. All in all a fantastic break.
Mrs Jay

Perfect location, even in November.. Lovely cottage where owners had thought of everything to make you feel welcome and the stay enjoyable. Arrived late in terrible weather but once inside it was warm and cosy and the bottle of wine waiting in the fridge was very much appreciated

Me and my partner and 2 dogs stayed here for a week. When arrived we was greeted with a clean and lovely cottage. The owners had left a bottle of wine and some milk as a welcome gift which was extremely lovely of them. The garden was fantastic for the dogs, enclosed so you knew they couldn't get out. It is set on a farm, however out of the way and you wouldn't even know. Loved the walks around the farm and the views were beautiful. I would definitely recommend and return. Thank you for a lovely stay.

October 2015
No cafe, no spa, very muddy, you are staying on a working farm, the cottage looks like a hut, but very nice inside, plus points very quiet, great views outside, not from the hut, really clean, great night views of the night sky, every thing outside looks run down, but again working farm, 125 milking cows, the valley is very pretty, I am trying to work out what has happened, its seems this place was very successful but some thing is missing, when you arrive you get a bottle of white wine,(cheap) tea bags but they could have been there for ever sugar milk and scones, again very nice plus freash fruit, all good, this place takes dogs this was the deal breaker for us, so all in all a great place for dogs with owners attached every one will have a great time

November 2014
We loved being in the middle of nowhere on a working dairy farm. It wasn't too far away from shops and nearby villages, but it was lovely to wake up and just hear birdsong and the water rushing along in the nearby brook. We had a lovely, relaxing break. A real home away from home. The owner had left us home baked scones and a basket of fruit and wine which was a lovely touch. Everything had been really well thought out. A lovely place to stay!

The cottage was everything that was promised plus we received a welcome pack of 1 bottle of wine, 2 homemade scones, 1 pint milk, tea bags, coffee & sugar & we were a few steps away from the owner's very good cafe serving homemade food. There was a sculpture trail in the valley very near our door as well as an onsite Spa with sauna, hot tub & a variety of beauty treatments.

Good welcome pack in accommodation which was appreciated. The cottage was excellent for our requirements with a pet labrador. The location was well placed for touring Cumbria and the Lake District. Although we did not take advantage of the amenities they appeared well managed and very good. We liked the available walks through the valley especially with our dog. Although no doubt temporary ongoing contruction work made for very muddy conditions on the approach to the cottage. The settee was not the most comfortable for a weeks stay.
