A little quieter than the (often) crowded streets of York’s old centre, Clifton is the ideal neighbourhood for a city break. This townhouse puts you a fifteen-minute walk from the centre of York, so you can get your fill of the atmospheric Shambles, York Minster and famous tea rooms, yet saunter back to the peace of your city home. A typical red-brick facade with big bay windows greets you on arrival. Inside, you’ll find a home curated with museum-level precision. Vintage sewing machines, classical children’s literature, and old tea chests (this is Yorkshire after all) fill striking navy wall presses in the living room and a wood-burning stove sits beneath a rustic wooden lintel. A less formal family snug can be found in the kitchen, with a big L-shaped sofa in front of the TV. The kitchen itself is a vision of dove-grey modernity, with a range-style cooker catering for big family meals. Choose to dine at the pinewood dining table inside, or out on the patio if the weather is fine. The walled garden is a real suntrap, yet feels private. We particularly love the stained-glass doors that add a touch of art nouveau to the place.
