Area
Skipton is ideally located for exploring the Dales, earning it the nickname "The Gateway to the Dales," while also being a reasonable drive from other popular tourist destinations including York, the Lake District, and the West Coast. A colourful market occupies the cobblestone setts on either side of the high street in this charming market town, which also features an antique castle that is available to the public, a beautiful mediaeval parish church, and a lively atmosphere thanks to its many cafes and shops. After being awarded Britain's "greatest place to live" by The Sunday Times in 2014, Skipton went on to be named one of the top nine towns in Yorkshire and the North East in 2016. The Leeds and Liverpool Canal runs through Skipton, and attractions like the mile-long Foulridge Tunnel and the five-rise locks at Bingley are easily accessible. Embsay and Bolton Abbey also include steam railroads with regular excursion services. You may leave your car at home and take advantage of the area's plentiful public transportation options, as well as its proximity to a variety of recreational opportunities like golf, swimming, squash, tennis, and snooker.

Region
From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?
