We met up with family at Monksmoor Cottage for a staycation, with the party being made up of 5 adults and 2 children.. We found the cottage sparkling clean, spacious, and beautiful. The entrance hall has the wow factor with its wooden staircase. Three of the bedrooms lead off from here and were lovely with nice comfy beds. The family bathroom was big and the roll-top bath was popular! Upstairs the main room with the log burning stove, old fireplace and wooden beams was gorgeous. The photos don't do it justice. Logs were provided for the stove but were not needed as the house was lovely and warm. The kitchen was really well stocked and we thoroughly enjoyed the welcome package. Thanks! Shame we couldn't use the aga but the other oven was fine and we wouldn't know what to do with the aga anyway! The dining table was well big enough for all of us. Great washing machine and tumbler. The cottage is in a nice village. The coop is 5 minutes walk with a few pubs and the chippy a few minutes further. Had some lovely sausages from the butcher and went to the forresters one night for tea. This is a French restaurant and the food was really good. We also had fish and chips one night which were tasty. The local area is beautiful. We visited low force, high force and summerhill force waterfalls which were only 10 minutes drive away. We also went to Weardale Adventure Centre one day which I can highly recommend. We did archery, canoeing and gorge walking. The gorge walking was amazing but not for the faint hearted! Overall we had a fabulous time here and maybe will come back one day. And thanks to the hosts for being so accommodating.

The cottage was fantastic and even better than the photo's.. There were lots of walks from the cottage and places to see. Double glazing upstairs to block out road noise would be an improvement but everything else was spot on

Delighted with the property and much bigger than we anticipated.. Well equiped kitchen only fault would be the heating. Set at a temperature which was not warm enough for a house this size. The foresters is a lovely pub with very friendly staff and locals.

What a wonderful place! So much space to relax (we were 2 families of 4). Lovely and clean and so well equipped, the kitchen was fantastic for cooking. The facilities are great and pictures don’t do it justice. We loved the area too, so much to do. We didn’t get chance to do it all, (unfortunately you can’t book the weather!) so we will definitely be back. Thank you for an excellent stay!

Photos don't do this cottage justice.. Beautiful large sitting/dining room with log burner. Clean and modern kitchen with every utensil you might need. 4 bedrooms with comfy beds and good quality linen. Lovely village and amazing walks, a visit to the craft shop is a must. 2 pubs which serve really good food and real ale. Food in French restaurant was fantastic. Would definitely stay here again.

We were three generations of family and the configuration of rooms and beds suited us fine.. The house was well equipped although the dishwasher was broken however we were warned in advance. The only thing we did not like were the soft beds.

Monksmoor House makes a fantastic home for a base for walking in this lovely area of Teesdale.. Very well equipped and spacious rooms make it a comfortable place to stay for larger parties or families, whatever the weather. Middleton-in-Teesdale is a friendly, well resourced village, with good places to eat and shop and visit on the doorstep.

This is a beautiful house in a wonderful location.. The house has been decorated & equipped to a high standard and is very elegant. The photos do not do it justice. The first floor is open plan, though there are glass panelled doors you can shut off the kitchen with. The snug off the lounge is a lovely addition and full of books, games, puzzles etc. I would say it may not suit visitors with very young children perhaps as the sound from the open plan lounge (TV or chat) can be heard by those downstairs in the bedrooms, but this wasn't an issue for us. The large claw-foot bath in the main bathroom (bath, shower, toilet) is a joy and there is also an en-suite with the master bedroom (shower, toilet) and an additional toilet upstairs. There is a small laundry room too upstairs which was very handy with washer, dryer, drying racks, iron & board etc. It is also a very warm and cosy house, masses of hot water too. There is also a log burner though we didn't need this in August! The small town itself is lovely, 3 or 4 nice cafes, particularly The Teespot, all dog friendly and a few options for dinner out and excellent Fish & Chip shop - we enjoyed the food at the Teesdale Hotel very much (also dog friendly in the bar). There is a large and well stocked Co-op 5 minutes walk away for groceries and a local butcher a few minutes further on which also sells local cheeses, pies etc. It's a great area for walkers and nature explorers, riverside walks & the Pennine Way & Teesdale Railway Path all accessible by foot from the house and masses of other walks locally as well as wonderful country pubs and beautiful villages.

Visited with family at witsun for a week this house is beautiful and pictures do not do it justice, it is situated in an ideal location very much suited to a family with children and pets for lovely walks and scenery. There are local pubs and cafes nearby and everybody was friendly. We have made some lovely memories at this location and will most definitely be back to this house.

We enjoyed the quality of the fittings and equipment provided together with the stylish decor .. The house was comfortable, spacious and airy which helps when you have 4 couples sharing facilities who have never had a holiday together, despite being friends for a long time. It had everything we needed (except a BBQ - but we can understand the difficulty when there is no garden, as such.) It was a very convenient location to access walking in Teesdale and the small town of Middleton was easy to walk around, if we wanted to eat out or pick up provisions. Parking was a little difficult for 4 cars, but we managed. We would have liked another ensuite or shower - but the overall price reflected the number of facilities very fairly and we recognised that. Absolutely recommend this cottage.

Monksmoor House was absolutely amazing.. We couldn't fault it. Wonderful in every way with lovely views. Best lounges, best stairs, great set up in the kitchen. We have used a number of self catering cottages but yours has been the best. Thank you sooooooooo much. Would love to come back. Middleton-in-Teasdale is a great village. A really nice place to stay for the weekend.. The family loved the log burner and even though the cottage is situated on a main road, it's actually very quiet. Loads of space for everyone and very tastefully decorated. I would be happy to stay here again.

The house was very spacious, well-appointed and extremely comfortable.. Nothing was skimped - very well-equipped with everything you might possibly need. The location is ideal for walking and for visiting the local sights e.g High Force Waterfall, Bowes Museum. It is in a lovely village, within a short walking distance of all amenities - pub/restaurant, shop etc. Super1

This was an absolute gem of a place. Located in the country side was perfect for our weekend away. Great views and great location. Small town close by and plenty of activities not too far out. We managed to do archery which wasn't Too far out. The patio area was amazing in warm weather. Vary spacious and the rooms are also of a decent size. Very friendly neighbourhood and all in all an amazing place. We also visited a waterfall very nearby and that was worth a visit. Highly recommended.

We really enjoyed Monksmoor House; it had a homely and welcoming feel even though it was so spacious. The welcome tray was greatly appreciated and the instructions and labels made everything easy and clear. The area was beautiful and the village very welcoming. Parking was easy and it was a great place to have a dog.
