We have stayed in many holiday cottages and I have to say Millers Retreat is the best.. It was comfortable with lots of homely touches, every detail seemed to be thought about and a bottle of wine and treats were there to greet us on arrival, even treats for the dog. A great cottage which I would happily book again if visiting Northumberland. The beaches are lovely and clean and we never had any problems social distancing and all beaches are dog friendly.

Miller’s Retreat was an ‘as described’ home from home, everything was of the highest quality and well exceeded expectations Catherine, the owner, was friendly and welcoming.. The local pub ‘The Coach Inn, provided lovely meals and even Ben the GSD got his own steak. A great property in a lovely village in a fantastic part of the UK

The best cottage we have ever stayed in. So homely and well equipped. The weather we had wasn't the best but avin the cottage to come back to each day and relax with all home comforts was brilliant. Every detail was in place, great instructions of how to work everything and owners couldn't be more helpful. Txted us to let us know as soon as it was ready for us and rescued us when we foolishly locked ourselves out. Would recommend to anyone. Food at the local pub great and Alnmouth village and beach fantastic

Just returned from a long weekend in this lovely cottage on the doorstep of the Northumbria coast. The owners were very welcoming and we really enjoyed the welcome gift and card! The cottage itself is well presented with all the amenities you need. The only negatives are the main bedroom is on the smaller side but this wasn't too much of a problem and it is quite a narrow entrance to the parking at the back. Apart from this however I cannot fault the cottage. The local area is amazing having explored the towns and castles along the coastal path - highly recommended.

The cottage was lovely everything was provided for a lovely holiday. There was plenty of information provided about the area by the owners, who also welcomed us on arrival. The village is great, the Pub is just down the road, we had a lovely meal and the dogs came with us. There were so many walks for my two dogs. The enclosed rear garden was great for the dogs. It felt like home from home. This was our first visit to this area but we enjoyed it so much we have said we would return.

This cosy cottage is an excellent base for exploring the area without having to use the car. There are lovely walks along the coast and to Alnwick. The station for trains to Edinburgh and Newcastle is a 10 minute walk and the good local pub is 200 yards away. The cottage was warm and well-stocked, and the welcome pack left by the owners of wine, crisps, biscuits and chocolates was amazing!

Where do I begin? The welcome from the owner of this beautiful cottage was second to none! The cottage itself was a real home from home and so comfortable and cosy. A lot of thought has gone into the furnishings and providing a first class stay for guests. The location of the cottage is ideal for touring - and beautiful beaches are very close at hand. We had a very nice meal in the local pub and they made us (and our 8 year old grandson) very welcome.

It was our first time in a holiday cottage and the first time to use Sykes. I was a little apprehensive as I had seen a couple of bad reviews for Sykes. We had no problems.Booking was easy and they gave us all the info we needed. The place we stayed Millars Retreat was fantastic. It was clean and beautifully decorated. It had all the things we needed to make our stay wonderful. The owners were great. They left a lovely pack for us,and included the children and something for our dogs as well. I couldn't have asked for anything better. When the bathroom light blew they came round straight away and fixed it. I cannot praise the owner enough.

We have just returned from a very enjoyable week at this lovely cottage on the Northumberland Heritage Coast. On arrival we were greeted with a bottle of wine and goodies to nibble, which was very welcome after a seven hour journey from Sussex! The owner popped round on the first evening to introduce herself and was very warm, welcoming and helpful. The cottage is clean, cosy, comfortable and very well equipped with everything you could need, and was a real home to come back to after a busy day out and about. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this cottage.

A fantastic little property, we enjoyed it so much we have already booked to go back! Well equipped, clean, cosy, great location. There is a lovely pub just down the road but unfortunately they don't allow dogs but there are plenty of others to choose from, all of them serve good food. The cottage was warm and cosy and very tastefully decorated and finished to a high standard. We would have no worries about staying here again and would recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a quite retreat in wonderful countryside. A local pub a 100 yards away which was very welcoming and served a nice pint of Black Sheep.

January 2014
I would recommend this property because it has everything you need for a relaxing week. Whilst most of the places we wanted to visit were closed for maintenance it didn't matter because it made us slow down and do things like visiting the bookshop in Alnwick and spending time looking at books which normally we don't make time for. Also lots of walks along lovely beaches and good food both in cafes and pubs. All in all a great break. Just what we needed after Christmas

December 2013
The owners were very kind .. from the initial welcome pack (with goodies for humans and dog!) to ready availability to make sure we had everything we needed. The cottage was like a home from home, very comfortable and beautifully equipped. The village of Lesbury is picturesque, and ideally placed for visiting many surrounding attractions, including the nearby lovely beach at almouth. Best liked - the general comfort of the cottage and location. Least liked.. the weather! (but can't blame Sykes Cottages for that!)

Excellent accommodation and very welcoming - even the dog received a welcome treat. Cottage warm and well equipped and everything that we asked for. Excellent hosts and visited after we arrived and just before we left. Lesbury is a fine base for touring and must be superb in the summer. Lots of walking nearby - the Northumberland Coastal Path in particular and the Northumberland beaches have to be experienced to be believed. Alnwick nearby is an interesting historic place and both Newcastle and Edinburgh are in easy reach. We shall revisit soon and recommend the cottage and its owner highly

The cottage was lovely and it was clear from the visitor book that the owner used the comments to fine tune what worked and what didn't. We felt very welcome, and knew that the owners were on the other end of the phone if we needed them.
