The property was very clean and comfortable with plenty of room for the two of us. However, although both bedrooms were quite spacious, the living/dining area would be very cramped for four adults diining in. The property is described as 'set in beautiful mature gardens' however, this is the owner's garden which you do not have access to, without the owners permission; a fact that should be highlighted in the description. The property is very well situated within an easy five to ten minutes walk to all the shops, pubs, restaurants and takeaways in the town. It should also be noted that the property is next to a busy main road with traffic noise even on an night, in case this may bother you. We did enjoy our stay at Manor Lodge and despite some wet weather, found plenty of walks in the vicinity of Kirkby Stephen, in the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.

The place was amazing, just enough for a family of four.. Clean and lovely. Quiet and magical. Would be nice to have an access to the garden, for a lazy day, but not too big of an issue as we went there with the plans to visit Lake District National park and were out and about all day.

The manor is in an absolutely perfect location.. We are keen walkers so used every day to head out somewhere from the lodge to nearby villages. The Taggy Man pub was a regular for drinks on the way home. Although the lodge is on the grounds of the main Manor House it felt very private. It is well equipped and comfortable and not having WiFi reduced the chance of us looking at work bits whilst away! It had everything we needed to kick back and relax after a very stressful few weeks with work. It is a little gem in a gorgeous village and we will be back I am sure!

Lovely place to stay - close to village centre for all amenities, clean, comfortable and with all the essentials and utilities you need. Walked in the Eden Valley plus ideal base for Ullswater, Derwent Water and Rydal in the lakes - last day we day tripped to York, c 90 mins away. Recommend and would rent again if we go back to the area.

The cottage was as expected clean, comfortable, and well situated for the lakes and the dales.. The only downfall was the wooden steps and decking outside the property which when wet were slippery.

I would have paid a bit extra for wi-fi .... I would have paid a bit extra for wi-fi The decking area is a lot smaller than the photographs would lead you to believe and the claimed 2 minute walk would take you as far as the spar but not as far as the chip shop and pub not a problem for us but the wifes father is 94 and couldnt manage it

Ideally situated for us, a big bonus to have the balcony overlooking the lovely garden..

May 2018
It did not affect us but there are 5 steps / stairs down from the living area to the bedrooms.. Your description says "ground floor" bedrooms and also living area. There is also no Wi Fi: not mentioned in description but some could just assume that there is access The heating is only central heating, the boiler had just been changed so generally it was efficient. There is no supplementary form of heating for when the C/H has not yet started (before 7am) or for when it thinks it is hot enough and does not kick back in on a chilly evening. The owners do not like the controls adjusted. There are skylights in the bedrooms, they have blinds but the sun did wake us up in the morning, fortunately only at 6am at this time of year, but could be a lot earlier later in the year.

Wonderful place, and I hesitate to even mention a tiny complaint.. No Wi-Fi , which may be a geographical issue?

We stayed in Kirkby Stephne for a week. We travelled with car. The cottage was clean and had a good standard. It was situated closed to the Town centre. Just 5 minutes walk to pubs and resturants. The cottage is small, and maximum 4 person. On the down side: one bathroom but that was ok for us, just beeing two person. No wifi, but you can live without internet for a week. The pub "Black Bull" in Town centre has free wifi - and good ale and food! The purpose for us was golf, and there is a lot of courses closed to Kirkby Stephens. I recommend Appleby golf course.

We liked everything, the owners were lovely and very hospitable. It was a great cottage and surrounding walks. We would defiantly return.

We had a great holiday, good weather and a choice of walking probably unchallenged in its variety ie hills over 2000ft to pastoral river walks include a lot of history with geology and natural history and what more can a walker want? The cottage was very comfortable and the splendid garden private, it was the perfect place for us. Kirkby Stephen is a really understated town and in its own way has just about everything for everybody. We found the pubs friendly and good value, there are plentiful dining opportunities. We are experienced fell walkers and to have The Howgills and Pennines Range on your doorstep along with so many local hills and The Dales only a short drive away is fantastic. The owners live within the grounds and were friendly and helpful, the garden is private and beautiful. Parking is next to the entrance with plenty of room and yards from the main road and yet so quiet.

What an excellent spot to enjoy the area in and around Kirkby Stephen. Manor Lodge was easy to find, provided excellent facilities overall and was a very brief walk to shops and restaurants. A private, off-road parking space next to the lodge was a good start; a place to store four bikes under a wooden walkway was helpful and a first view of the lodge when opening the door was like a home from home! There was a well-equipped kitchen, a clean bathroom and two clean bedrooms; all very homely. It took less than five minutes to walk to any shop or restaurant (and there was a variety of dining opportunities in the main street) and we set off from the lodge on three major walks and two cycle rides with map in hand - easy! A day trip to Carlisle on the Settle to Carlisle Railway was great too. The whole family would recommend this rental to anyone wanting to visit the area.

August 2013
Beautiful home set in a glorious garden. We even saw a Heron in the garden pond outside one of the bedrooms on two occasions. Ideal location to explore the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. The photographs do not do the home justice as it is much larger than expected. The only thing we least liked was having to carry our cases up the steps but its only on the first and last day so not a big problem.

Kirkby Stephen is a very quiet quaint little village. The lodge is perfect for a cosy getaway, absolutely spotlessly clean and fully equipped with everything you would need for your stay. I would definitely visit this place again.
