Very cosy cottage and very well equipped.. Very good base to access the forest and Wales. Steve was a lovely owner. Great seeing all the varied wildlife on the small holding and countryside. Good walks along Severn and forest of Dean. Photos of cottage are good but they do not do the cottage justice- much better in real life. Had a lovely chilled out relaxing one week stay. Well done.

Lovely spot in a very nice area .. The cottage is ideal for dogs, no close neighbours and with a private garden area. Bed very comfy. A few more kitchen utensils and more glasses might be useful, but we had most of what we needed.

Beautiful place to stay.. Quiet and away from it all. Steve friendly, unobtrusive host. All the amenities you could need. The only minor negative, and it didn’t affect our stay, is that a bit of TLC is due. Would definitely come again.

Mallard was a perfect little cottage for two people & their dogs.. The location was great and easy to find, access to the cottage was very accessable. The surrounding area was very scenic and you could get to towns and villiages very easy, Local pubs were very dog friendly and the local residents also very friendly and chatty. The owner of Mallard Steve was a lovely man and so helpful, he provided us with all the logs etc; for the wood burner without charge and altough we did not need the wood burner every day it did create a cosy atmosphere. We stayed at Mallard over the Christmas period, including Christmas Day and it was brilliant, the owner even supplied a little Christmas tree. I would reccomend this cottage to anyone. The only slight improvement I would make is to provide more kitchen items like a chopping board and more utilities.

Second time we booked this cottage, as we loved it so much last time, and there were still many things we hadn't done.. Steve and Sonia very friendly and helpful, but we didn't need to disturb them much as everything was fine. Peaceful cottage, with lots of birds and wildlife, and easy access to the river Severn. Steve happy to let us wander around his land. Great position for visiting all sorts of attractions and countryside, both in England and Wales. Cream teas on the Dean Forest Railway are a must!

Received a warm welcome from owner Steven.. Mallard stands on its own in a field without close neighbours, so is a very peaceful and relaxing place to say. The cottage is very well appointed everything is to a high standard and works well. The Wi-Fi didn't fail once all week. The log burner makes it nice and cosy with more free wood then you can use. Very dog friendly told us to let our dog run free. Just needs a hot tub private patio is ideal for one.

When we arrived at the given time the Hoover had been left by the sofa and it was obvious that the cleaner had been disturbed during cleaning.. We tidied up and finished the job and put the cleaner away. To add to this the toilet was dirty and no cleaning materials to use. All in all it was quite bad. I didn't make a fuss at the time as I was already quite stressed and exhausted and was there to relax. My husband is a keen cook and to keep our costs down we are more than happy to cater for ourselves, that's why we like using cottages. Therefore I was also disappointed as to the condition of the oven. The switch was broken and it was temperamental, sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn't. I totally understand that this wasnt one of your finer properties but expected this to be better. On a positive note the log burner was very good and the owner was generous with the log supply. However I won't be returning to Mallards.

Excellent. The facilities and the accommodation were excellent and we were made very welcome by the owner.. I stayed at Mallard with my partner and dog in May 2015. We absolutely loved everything about it! The views around the property, the wildlife on the pond and the swan family with their 8 babies! The tidy enclosed garden, the comfy patio furniture, the French doors and open aspect of the downstairs living area. The property is very bright, cosy and comfortable and provides a perfect base to explore the Cotswolds, Forest of Dean and Wales! We loved it so much we rebooked the day after we returned and I'm counting the days down before we go back at the end of August 2016!!

This place is great. Really cosy and perfect size for two. It was really well designed and laid out so that it felt cosy but never felt that we were lacking space. Nice decor and furnishings and well finished. Everything we needed was there and the owner was very friendly and helpful, providing additional logs and kindling on request. Brilliant base point location for walks in the Forest of Dean and close to Gloucester / Cheltenham / Ross if you prefer the town shopping experience. The dog loved sitting in the garden and watching the geese and sheep. This location is idyllic. We strongly recommend this as a getaway for two and will definitely return.

This place is fantastic. It is small but perfectly formed, and despite its cosiness, it lacks nothing. It is surrounded by beautiful fields which are home to swans and sheep.. both of which come right up to your fence to say hello. The owner is the ideal blend of always being available, but never in the way. We will certainly be back, and certainly recommending to friends.

I am very happy to say this property was exactly as described both verbally and photographically by the rental company. The cottage is situated a little way up a lane to the side of the owners home and another cottage they also rent out so you are literally in the middle of all the open greenery and truly away from it all and everyone, but still just minutes away from the not too busy main road. The actual location of the area where it is also very good for visiting other places of interest within a 10-15 mile radius. The furthest we travelled one day was to Cardiff which is a distance of approximately 40 miles. The decor, furniture and fittings were all excellent, clean and in good order. Despite the cottage being for just two people there was a three seater sofa with a separate matching chair which gave a variety of seating/lounging opportunities. It was a very pleasant change from the majority of properties which provide either just a two seater sofa or two high backed wing chairs which are not conducive to relaxation at all. There were several lamps dotted about in addition to the bright ceiling lights so you were able to light the lounge in a variety of ways as you would at home. Plug sockets were plentiful which are essential in today's age of technology with the inclusive availability of a superfast and reliable wifi connection. The property is deceptively spacious once inside and although an open layout on the ground floor each area didn't impact on the others. The lounge is thoughtfully laid out to feel as if it was actually a separate room from the dining area and kitchen. The log burning stove was easy to use (yes it was a beautiful week with warm evenings but we had to try it out at least once) and the free supply of quality dried logs ensured it lit easily and burnt steadily. Upstairs there was a bathroom with a wonderful shower over the bath. The temperature remained constant and the water pressure was very good ensuring a decent shower every time. The bath was quite deep and water flow from the taps a little slow so it did take a while to fill the bath. There is a large landing which contained a single wardrobe. The bedroom was a reasonable size with a centrally located king size bed with decent room to get dressed at either side, but the sloping ceiling/roof meant there wasn't room for a wardrobe hence why it was on the landing. I feel there is room to provide a dressing table in addition to the triple chest of drawers but there wasn't one. There was a mirror on the wall above the waist high drawer unit which means you have to stand to dry your hair and put your face on. The windows are in the roof and have good blinds that keep the light out but when it is warm and the windows are open the room is well lit from sunrise ie 5am ish. The owners have thoughtfully provided two cooling fans but its either the noise of the fans versus the early light. For most people this wont be an issue but for me not only do I like a cool, quiet room to sleep in I also like a pitch black one as well. I am looking forward to staying again during the winter months when the warmth wont be an issue, but then this will mean that I wont be able to take advantage of the amazing outdoor space with the comfortable chairs and barbecue set up that is also provided. Outside there is a lawned area as well as the flagged area which is just outside the patio doors and a small shed to store the chairs in when not in use. The whole area is fenced off to ensure you don't receive visits from any stray sheep, not that there were any when we were there, or the resident swans and their babies don't get too near as they liked to come right up to the fence each evening but the mother would hiss to warn you not to get too close! I was glad of that fence then I can tell you. We had such a relaxing time here and were able to visit so many places of interest I cant wait to stay again as there are still so many more places that we would like to see that are only a short distance away from the cottage and also to enjoy the ambience of the building and its surroundings.
