We stayed for a week in October 2022. The cottage was clean and comfortable with plenty of hot water and a well-equipped kitchen, and has lots of traditional charm. The conservatory is lovely for catching the last of the autumn sunshine and doing a bit of birdwatching from the comfort of the sofa. The owners live next door and were friendly and helpful. Great for animal lovers as there are dogs, ponies and sheep around. The location is very peaceful and secluded, and there are lots of walks to do straight from the cottage. It’s about 45 – 60 mins drive to the more touristy bits in the south of Pembrokeshire but the roads are beautiful, and Cardigan and St Dogmaels are only 10 mins away for local shops, restaurants etc.

Visiting family with my own family and 2 dogs. Fran and Chez very welcoming and nothing too much trouble. Plenty of space indoors with a box full of games, dvds and jigsaws to occupy yourself with. Tea, coffee and milk awaiting your arrival along with fresh Sunfowers as well as Welsh cakes. 9 Miles of County side to walk and explore from the farm without having to drive anywhere. Dogs must be kept of lead as plenty of live stock about. Extra large enclosed garden - both kids and dogs loved the space out there. Plenty to do in area. Beaches, Caldey island, little towns and villages to explore and find a few bargains, caste ruins, wildlife trusts, parks, indoor play areas for kids when it's raining. Typical Wales mind - wellies and brollies needed Sun / Mon, sun hats and suncream needed Tues / Wed. Thankyou once again for sharing your wonderful cottage... Highly highly recommend.

This was a perfect break for us.. Tucked out of the way but everything you could want is only a short drive away. Cottage is lovely, quirky and full of nooks and crannies which we love. Sure, if you want to be picky, there are things you could pick up on but that takes away the point of a place like this - and we absolutely loved it. Everything you could possibly want is here and our hosts were lovely people. Garden is nice and enclosed so the dogs were happy too. The surrounding area, as you might expect, is delightful and the coast is but a short drive away to enjoy and Cardigan is a nice town. So what's not to like? A perfect place for peace and quiet and to rest and that is just what we did. We certainly hope to return in the future.

Too many issues to list but owners barking dogs and the wifi not working plus many small repairs needed did spoil our holiday.. We thought post lockdown the cottage would have been in top condition. Never had to ask how to get the tv to work before or follow written instructions to have a shower. Has this property been inspected by you recently?

This was a wonderful place and the owners - who lived next door to the cottage - were really welcoming.. Secluded, and spacious, ideal for bad weather retreat if the weather doesn't play fair!

Great location, cosy cottage and lovely owners.. Honestly didn’t want to leave. Really well located to explore the coast and very dog friendly with the enclosed garden (and friendly doggy neighbours). Our 2 Labradors loved it almost as much as we did.

We were made most welcome and everything was prepared to a high standard even down to the newly cut back lawn.. There were a number of unexpected extras such as good quality tea, coffee, fresh flowers and Welsh cakes to name but a few, all of which were much appreciated. We had a most enjoyable holiday and plan to return next year.

This was a beautiful cottage with a very large garden that was just right for us and our dog.. We were surrounded by fields with farm animals, a donkey and a horse. It was lovely to sit out in the evening with a glass of wine and a book. The owners live next door and are so very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The cottage is only a few minutes from Cardigan town and convenient to getting to other coastal resorts. We would definitely recommend this cottage.

Ches and Fran were wonderful hosts and very welcoming. Relaxed and tranquil atmosphere. Ideal rural escape. A great place to get away from it all and an ideal base for lots of walking and plenty of local beaches with Poppit Sands being a favourite and dog friendly all year round. This dog friendly cottage is well equipped whilst being cosy and characterful. Would definitely recommend to anyone who needs some time out. Take a walk along the river from Cilgerran to the next village along, cross over the bridge and a 100 yards up the hill is a dog friendly hotel which is ideal for lunch.

Pleasant location albeit somewhat remote and accessible along very narrow lanes: thank goodness for the SatNav! Comfort within the cottage was quite acceptable albeit a little dark in the front lounge at all times. However, the sun lounge and kitchen area were brighter and more welcoming. Very pleasant to pass the time in an evening. Sleeping accommodation was quite acceptable. The cottage faces east and consequently the sun shone through the thin blind and curtain making for an early awakening each morning. A blackout blind would have greatly assisted in that respect. Lovely open garden in the back, ideal for children or just sitting out in the sunshine. More than adequate kitchen facilities, pleasant eating areas and very spacious. Heating in the property was very good, totally adequate and controllable. Owners were very welcoming and helpful throughout our visit.

If you are the type person who expects everything pristine, perfect, shiney and brand new, but without personality, then maybe this is not the place for you.. This is a wonderful olde worlde quaint, remote cottage next to the owners on a working farm. There are animals right on the doorstep. I was lucky enough to see lambs being born & to hold a day old lamb. Fran & Chez are like old friends, they are not in your face, but allow you to get on with your holiday in your own pace. The cottage is full of charm, there was everything you need for a peaceful relaxing holiday in the perfect location, or if you prefer to get out and about and see the wonderful coastline and local sights. My husband and I, plus our two dogs felt at home and able to relax in comfortable surroundings. Thank you.

Have stayed here before and will keep coming back thanks to the welcome of the owners. Situated in a cottage adjacent to the owners home nothing is too much trouble and we couldn't have been made more welcome. The cottage has everything we needed for a peaceful get away and is well situated for Poppit Sands, Cardigan and many other attractions. For us the walking is great with numerous footpaths within very easy reach. Highly recommended and we'll be back again soon.

January 2019
We arrived at around 5pm on the Saturday before Xmas. First off the main door was swollen and couldn't shut properly. We were told that sometimes the shower wouldn't flow properly so to lower the shower head and then raise it again. We were also told that the internet shut down and to reset that. On the 23rd December, one of the owners knocked on to say that they were leaving, At this point we were told that the boiler "may" shut down and "in the unlikely event it did to reset it at switch in their garage" They were going to be away for their family Christmas....! We were NOT given any point of contact should an emergency except for their mobile number. Christmas Eve - Boiler Broke Down, so we waited and then reset it as instructed Christmas Day - Boiler Shut down 3 more times, We reset it once this day. The times it had restarted it did not do so for over an hour, and by then the rads were stone cold and so was the cottage.. 4th time we rang owners to inform them we would be leaving early on Boxing day as boiler was constantly shutting down and we were freezing.. This is when we were subjected to a torrent of abuse, Stating we should not be resetting the boiler. We could not explain anything as at this point, the owner was busily inferring that we were drunk and were clearly to blame for boiler shutting down. When I suggested that we really should have had a physical point of contact, she then said sarcastically.. ...... "oh I see, you need someone to hold your hand. You can't stay in the cottage without having someone's hand to hold..." She informed us she would be back on Boxing Day due to us being a problem. Late that night when I went downstairs in my bare feet to get a glass of water, I stood in a puddle of water (or so it seemed) .Turned out the radiator was leaking all over the floor. I took pictures of everything to show the problem, we were dealing with. We had to shut off the boiler completely now via a switch in the kitchen, as it would damage itself pumping water around the system, as it leaked across the floor. When looking at the photos I had taken I noticed an older stain across the carpet where the water was congregating, showing this had happened before. I had not noticed it before as a rug had been carefully placed over it. I also noticed rush and corrosion on the leaking pipe and valve. I photographed everything. That was the last straw, and we just packed up and left at midnight. I was utterly distraught. It was cold, dark and foggy, but we had no option but to leave, and make the 5 hour drive home! When we had rang, at 7pm earlier that evening, the owners had not even suggested that they get out a plumber , they were utterly rude and ignorant towards us. I have stayed with Sykes cottages before but never have I been subjected to such behaviour, nor unlucky enough to have my Christmas ruined. Be careful if you are holidaying here. Oh and we also found that the triple light switch behind the door had black tape over one of the switches... we figured that the light was dodgy, and the inglenook fireplace does not seem to be sealed off properly with fireproof plaster. Instead it is covered with what seems to be a sort of wood/chipboard..that in my view cannot be right Be warned. Check all the radiators are not leaking and if you are told to reset the boiler "in the unlikely event it shuts off", pack and leave straight away.

We've stayed at this peaceful cottage on 4 previous occasions so pretty much know what to expect.. Chez and Fran are lovely hosts and after welcoming us, leave us to get on with our holiday. The cottage is constantly being improved and we see something has changed each time we stay. New flooring upstairs this time. The private garden is perfect for dogs and our border collie had great fun chasing a ball around. He even got to chase one of the farm cats which strayed into the garden whilst he was out. A perfect retreat and worth every penny.

September 2017
Owners next door were friendly and helpful but unobtrusive.. A lovely comfortable old cottage hidden away down a track in quiet countryside. We hardly used the lounge - nothing wrong with it, we just preferred to sit in the conservatory watching the birds. Only slight criticism was the fridge with a tiny icebox. For anyone who enjoys having the time to cook while on holiday it wasn't adequate and the broken door rack further reduced storage capacity. There was plenty of room for a fridge/freezer. Apart from that we spent a happy fortnight there

We had a great time, the owners were friendly making us very welcome.. Property was spacious and everything needed for a splendid stay was at hand. It was off the beaten track which made for a relaxing break. Plenty of room for our dog with a large rear garden, close to Cardigan and within reach of a couple of local inns although dogs not always welcome in all places, we really enjoyed our stay.

We've visited this cottage a few times and it's a perfect place to stay if you want to escape from it all. Set on a working small holding you have to be prepared for the sounds of sheep and lambs and the quad bike. The location is just a couple of miles outside of Cardigan and within easy reach of places like Poppits Sands and Mwnt Beach. A hidden gem.

We wanted somewhere peaceful and quiet from where to explore Pembrokeshire and this cottage suited our needs perfectly. Ample room and comfort in which to relax and every convenience that we could have wanted in a holiday cottage. The owners were perfect hosts, always on hand and available for a chat, but never intrusive although they were right alongside. We will be going back for more of whatever magic it is that Maesgwyn dispenses.
