Laurel Bank Cottage is a stone-built cottage, an addition to the owners' Victorian property is on the outskirts of the village of Embsay, close to the town of Skipton, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. This property boasts five bedrooms, comprising of two ground floor double family rooms with a double and single bed, and three first floor bedrooms, consisting of one double with single day bed, one twin and one adult sized bunks, meaning this cottage sleeps thirteen people. The cottage also has a ground floor family bathroom and a first floor family shower room, a first floor sitting room, and a ground floor kitchen with a dining area. Outside, this cottage has off road parking, private patio areas and shared use of south facing gardens. Laurel Bank Cottage is a perfect cottage for families or friends that want to explore the area.

Area
With a stone circle dating back to the Bronze Age, this quiet Dales village is of ancient origin. Originally the site of a monastic settlement in the 12th century, the village of Embsay is now a popular destination amongst walkers and railway enthusiasts. The Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway runs through the beautiful surrounding countryside and boasts award-winning authentic station buildings and steam trains. At the centre of the village is the Old Mill, home to a needlecraft centre and coffee shop whilst the lively, bustling market town of Skipton is close at hand to provide any extra amenities visitors may need. Bolton Abbey, Kilnsey and Grassington are all within easy driving distance and help to make this charming village a wonderful base for exploring the Dales.

location great, have stayed there before about 7 years ago, don't think any thing has been done to the property since it was turned into a rental. the bathrooms not good, patched up with silicone everywhere, the towels as old has the house, same with the decor, the bedding, all old and well worn. sleeps 10, but if 10 want to sit in lounge together, all squeezed together on 3 settees. would not go back until we know it has been all updated.

Excellent property.. 13 adults, brothers, sisters, cousins and partners and we were very comfortable. Kitchen has all necessities, including, dishwasher and washing machine and plenty of crockery! Enough hot water to ensure 13 adults had showers and baths whenever needed and the property was more than warm enough for the beginning of May. Good internet connection. Quiet and delightful setting, peaceful and very scenic. Unfortunately we were unable to explore the local areas because we were only there for the weekend. We did go Gorge Walking however, and can recommend! The steam railway was also a success. We had a very well behaved dog who was made welcome and we loved the bed provided in the kitchen - thank you! Great communication (we were able to stay just a little longer than the 10am check out, because there were no other bookings, which made a real difference to our weekend, we were able to have a chilled breakfast). An excellent cottage for a large group with plenty of beds and space.. The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable. Just one issue to note - the downstairs toilet has a crack in the wooden seat and the upstairs toilet seat hinge is broken. Overall we had a great time, with excellent weather and the location was quiet and perfectly situated for access to walks and pubs.

Book8ng was so easy.. I first went to book on line but wasnt sure of skmething so called. The team are very friendly and although I was told I would get a call the day after to check I had paid ok on the link that was sent, I didnt. Fortunately the payment went through ok. There was 11 of us 8 adults and teenager and 3 kids. From being in the property 5 minutes I said how good it wouls be to claim squatters rights and stay forever (joking of course). Although the living room furniture was quite old it was still sufficient, spacious and very homely. All the facilities you needed was there apart from a mop so unfortunately we had no choice but to leave floors a little dirty. The shops, pubs and steam train are all in walk8ng distance and although uphill coming back was still not a bad walk. The only issue we found was that there was a cupboard full of games most of which were broken or empty or missing jigsaw pieces so if you have kids you need to make sure you take some games as the only one able to play was chess and even that had pieces missing. Apart from that everyth8ng was great and we had a lovely weekend.

We had space for all our family and having good weather the young children had a safe garden to play in. The welcome chocolates and milk in the fridge were great. The large dining table that we could all sit round was perfect. We all felt very relaxed because the house was family friendly and a very nice place to be. We have an annual family get together, travelling as far afield as from Brazil and Croatia. Last year we stayed in Buxton at a lovely house and we were lucky again this year with our choice. The cottage, we were pleasantly surprised, being much brighter and better in real life than as portrayed in the web photographs. We never met the owners but they left a lovely family-sized box of favourite Thornton chocolates as a welcome present, which was a nice touch. And when we all decamped earlier than expected leaving a dishwasher in action it was not a problem. A family steam trip on the Embassy railway (but don't try walking to Bolton Abbey at the other end with a pram or/and a dodgy knee) plus Skipton Castle, Malham Cove and Bronte Country, which were all visited and enjoyed. All together there was lovely countryside and friendly locals; you would expect nothing less in 'Gods Own Country'!

A group of 10 of us stayed here. Lovely scenic surroundings. 2 mile walk into Skipton. Two local pubs. Very friendly. Local steam train to Bolton Abbey took you back in time. Lots around to see. Fab accommodation had everything we needed. Roomy throughout. Better than the advertised pictures. Spotless and nicely decorated. All beds were comfy. Showers and bath were newly fitted. Well equipped kitchen for our group cooking our own meals. 3 draw freezer. Large tall fridge. Dish washer and washer/dryer. Lots of pots and pans. T.towels. Etc. Take your own towels and hair dryer. Stayed with a large group of friends, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The cottage has everything you'd need, excellently equipped, great views and a lovely location in a very pretty village just a couple of miles from Skipton. Great communal living room, spacious rooms, well equipped kitchen, nice touches like games and books to read, massive telly if needed. Wooden floors can be cold on the feet so take slippers and don't stroke the ginger cat as it bites, but otherwise a perfect place to stay. We will be returning I am sure.

Definitely satisfied with the property, especially the outdoor decking and barbecue area. Situation in Embsay was delightful with plenty of local walks including the Crag. Local amenities in Skipton were varied and excellent for dining out. Countryside was superb - visited the castle, Bolton Abbey, Malham, steam train and canal boat trip.

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was very spacious for our party which consisted of 4 adults and 5 children, there was a large garden area for the children to play in. The residents were friendly and approachable, all local pubs very welcoming and nice food, trips to the local farms and 'Billy Bobs Ice Cream Parlour' recommended for young kids. Would also recommend the railway to Bolton Abbey.

We loved staying at Laurel Bank. Three generations, including a branch of our family who live in the village, (and a small dog!) enjoyed a week of multiple birthday/anniversary celebrations. With lots of space and a really lovely garden, we had plenty of room to spread out and everybody could do their own thing. We know the area well because of the family connection, but walking to the shop two minutes away, for milk and newspapers in the morning, hearing the cricket played each evening just across the lane, and walking to the local pub added to the stay.

The cottage is ideal for family groups with children and it is well furnished and equipped. Embsay is a very pleasant village with good pubs that do food and there are plenty of walks that can be accessed from the cottage. There is plenty to do round about. The children particularly enjoyed a petting farm and an ice cream parlour. Two teenagers and two mums enjoyed a train ride and an amazing shopping trip to Leeds.

The house was great. The owners had left us tea bags, milk etc. There was things like tinfoil, extra blankets, soap, leaflets for local activities. The owners were also very quiet and unobtrusive. There is a large kitchen and several bedrooms (one room has bunk beds and 2 have a double bed and a single bed so if you have the total 12 people staying it could result in some interesting sleeping arrangements). the living room is also huge but not enough setting for 12 people to all watch the TV at the same time without having to sit on the floor. Realistically I would recommend this house for a group of 8 adults or 2/3 couples with several children (depending on age and number of children). The village and surrounding area is amazing, Bolton Abbey, Skipton the dales is all lovely. The village has 2 pubs which serve food and the locals are friendly. I would commend the house and the area. However I would not recommend Skyes cottages. One of our party suffered a bereavement shortly before the arrival and we were faced with the choice of cancelling and risking the insurance not paying up (I didn't really feel I could ask my friend for a copy of her mothers death certificate either a few days after she had died unexpectedly) or going with a much smaller party. We did not want to risk losing the whole £600 so some of us went. This was disappointing, it would have been much better if we could have changed the dates or amended it to a smaller house but they were very unhelpful. Frankly I got the impression once they had your money they didn't care about being helpful. I would not use them again and will certainly pass the word around my friends and family to stay clear.

Superb accommodation in delightful setting. The Yorkshire Dales have a lot to offer the discerning tourist. The property we rented was economic, spacious and very well equipped. The owners provided extras which were much appreciated. Set amongst views of hills to each side of the cottage and within a small village which boasted an excellent pub serving good food but only a short distance from Skipton which had all amenities. We tried two restaurants- one Russian the other Italian both well worth a visit.

Laurel Bank is more like a big house than a cottage; plenty of room, well equipped and convenient for the Dales, Skipton and a very good pub just up the hill. The owner was friendly and kindly lent us some towels when we found we'd forgotten to bring our own.

We, a Family party of 2 young grandchildren, 2 parents, and 4 grandparents, stayed at Laurel Bank Cottage in February 2013. The room sizes were well above average, the kitchen/diner could sit 12 comfortably, as could the lounge. The bedrooms were very spacious. Some outside space for the 2 young children was very welcome. The views around, from all windows, were spectacular. A moderate half-hour walk to Skipton, through the woods, was enjoyed by all. Super Family accommodation.

On the whole we were very comfortable and enjoyed our stay inspite of the poor weather. It had been very wet up to then and the downstairs bedrooms were unfortunately a bit damp as a result. However it was the poor wi fi reception that was the biggest disappointment for several of our party - a minor problem for most people on holiday you'd think! The location was great and given transport, there was plenty to see and do. We had a dog and had no problems at all with that.

Spent a weekend at Laurel Bank cottage, although we were only there in the evenings so didn't really see it in daylight!. Accomodation and facilities were excellent for our group of nine. Plenty of comfy sofas and chairs in the very spacious lounge and very cosy with the fire on. Enough room to park five large vehicles. Owners very pleasant and accomadating particularly with our dogs.

The location is excellent, with a post office/general store and two nearby pubs. The lounge, bedrooms and kitchen/dining room are spacious with adequate heating when required. The showers are OK, albeit a little cramped, and the water was hot when needed. There is sufficient cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils, and the kitchen appliances are very good. There were minor niggles during our stay, e.g. kitchen cold water tap was very difficult to turn off, and there were no towel rails alongside the bedroom washbasins. Overall, our stay was very good.

This is an excellent property for a large family gathering or a group of friends. The owners really have thought of everything. The owners were next door and very helpful. the house was clean and well equipped and we were very comfortable. The house is set off the main road in a lovely village with walks from the door, plus the steam train too.Also, it was handy to drive into Skipton (or there is a bus) for shopping and sightseeing. There is a large, old well preserved castle there, and the canal runs through it too. With easy access to the main east/west roads A65 & A59, we could quickly reach other Dales locations, ie Malham, Brimham Rocks, Ingleton waterfalls, etc. Our best day out was at Brimham Rocks (N.T.) which the kids loved climbing, closely followed by Inglton water falls. We found car parking expensive though, so be warned!

This was a perfect holiday house for all our family to meet up at Christmas. There were 7 adults and 5 children - we did a full christmas dinner and nothing was missing from the kitchen. The house was well equipped, spacious and comfortable to live in and had a large garden. The cottage was in a great location with 2 pubs within a short walking distance. Both served good food. There was a vintage steam railway nearby that was great fun that took you to the nearby Boulton Abbey.

It is an excellent base for some very good walks (with or without the kids). Had a great day out on the Embsay railway, including a walk to Bolton abbey for a picnic lunch, and another day at Skipton castle, both were good for the two children (3 and 9 years).
