Mrs Ashworth
October 2020
Everything was lovely, but you could not fit two people in the kitchen, although it was functional ! It was beautiful and quiet, a real gem of a place to stay after a day of exploring the countryside. Very cosy and clean a credit to the owners. We would highly recommend this as a little retreat for any couple wanting to explore the North East. A large bedroom and great comfy bed and with lovely views and wildlife. Excellent stay in our opinion a 9/10.

This was our first adventure staying in a cottage, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.. We couldn’t have wished for anything better. The bathroom and kitchen looked like new, the Morso log burner had the living room heated in minutes. There was no internet or mobile phone connection for BT or EE, but a 10 minute walk/ drive along the road to high ground allowed us to check our text messages and emails.Parking for one vehicle was provided beside the spacious garden, which has a decking section, with a garden table and chairs and surrounded with stone chippings, which our Cocker Spaniel enjoyed running around in. The most outstanding asset was the remoteness and silence surrounding you, and the beautiful unspoilt countryside surrounded by rolling hills with a babbling burn running through the valley. Colin and Gillian July 2020.

Stairs were steep to climb.. Some of the doors were difficult to close on catches more so for any disabled person.

Was very cosy - in the middle of no where which I should have done my research! But was beautiful to walk around the hills with the dogs

A lovely cottage in a very quiet area.. Good parking in front of the shed at the back. Good facilities, the shower was excellent, water hot all the time, plenty of fuel for the stove to last for a couple of weeks, mattress on bed extremely comfy. Information on the area was a bit disappointing as there was no WiFi or mobile phone signal in village at all and no literature in cottage on walks in the area. Had to drive and park in a layby to get mobile data. The door lintel through to stairwell was very low and i banged my head twice on it could maybe do with a sign to mind head or maybe a soft padding fixed on as it hurt. Garden seating and table wasn't very clean so didn't use it. But cottage was lovely and all facilities provided. A nice gift of shampoo and conditioner and soap provided and coffee and sugar. With regards to Sykes booking it was a bit confusing with correspondence online on payment but it was soon sorted out with a phone call. All other correspondence was good. Generally I like to deal with owner direct and not a holiday company but on this occasion the owner lived just next door and I was given his contact number and he was friendly and helpful. A great few days.

Had a fantastic relaxing time at Kirk cottage.Stunning views and great walks .The cottage was beautifully clean and cozy with an amazing power shower. Chris and Jayne were on hand if we needed anything very attentive. Although the reception for the phone is poor in the hamlet as soon as you walk up to the village hall which is 50 yards away it was fine. Will definitely return!

Overall great, clean, tidy and warm with lovely neighbours too! Generally well equipped though a coffee maker of some sort (cafetiere or filter) would have been appreciated. Listing maybe needs to make the lack of mobile signal a bit clearer. I knew there was no WiFi but the combination did mean I was completely out of touch when at the cottage.

Firstly, the cottage was tiny, especially the kitchen.. The dogs, two little Scotties, were not allowed on the furniture, the bedroom (which was up steep, narrow stairs that I struggled with), was inaccessible for them so that was OK.Yes? No. They lay on their blanket downstairs and 'cried' all night long. I went down so often that I actually thought I should sleep on the couch. The worst thing of all was that the garden, just asphalt and a small square of decking, was detached from the house itself, so one had to put leads on them then walk them round to it down a narrow path in the pitch dark late at night. They were not allowed to poo there, nor in the village itself and they again had to have leads on because there were lambs or calves in every field, except one on the far side of the village, although it too had a sign up saying 'No Entry April/May'. The whole experience was horrendous, so when I told Chris I was leaving, he said in a patronising tone that I should have researched the lambing issue and stomped away. I was astounded by his rudeness and explained to his wife that I have lived in rural settings for about 45 years.... I left after only one night, thereby forfeiting my rental fee. Don't go with dogs unless they are constipated. And if you do, I recommend taking a powerful torch and letting them loose in the old graveyard! However, the Border country is beautiful and steeped in history. Even places like Mary Queen of Scots' House welcomed dogs in their grounds including drinking bowls. '

The cottage was lovely, myself and my dog had a lovely stay, sadly the weather wasn’t the best but that’s out of anyone’s control, the log burner made the evenings special, and the owners and fellow villagers, welcomed us and made us feel at home, Sadly no phone signal or internet, a mixed blessing perhaps, had I been more aware I would of been better prepared with entertainment, brought more dvds etc.. I usually struggle to sleep but the bed was extremely comfortable, and the power shower was wonderful. The lack of light pollution, means amazing skies at night, stars are so bright and clear. All in all a holiday to remember.

A really well appointed cottage that was extremely clean and well equipped.. Good quality furniture and little extras to make it more homely. Good central heating that kept the property very snug and warm, even though it snowed, also with the benefit of a log burner and good supply of fuel. Good secure parking and small safe garden. Stunning scenery and excellent walks. Remote and quiet but that's what l wanted. Owners on hand and very helpful but never obtrusive.

A little cottage in the middle of nowhere for two (plus two big Malamutes), just what we booked and expected.. Lovely walks all around for us and the dogs. The owners were close at hand if needed, but left you to it to make our break private, which was just as we wanted it. Thank you very much from Martin, Paula, Shermaine and Conan the Malamutes

Was wonderful! Very well appointed, log burner was awesome plus the fuel was provided. No issues at all. Very remote, which was what we were looking for, however if you’re looking for somewhere to party this was not your place! We will definitely be back

Beautiful little cottage, more than adequate for our weeks holiday.. Very clean, fantastic shower and very comfortable bed. Would definitely book again as it’s also just down the road from family too. Love this area and how quiet and unspoilt it is, which is getting rare to find! Thankyou Sykes and to the owners of the cottage....it is a credit to you. Sam and Barry Jinks.

I had a very peaceful 4 night stay , the cottage was clean and had everything needed, the bed was very comfortable also the owner Chris was very friendly, as were the neighbours .. Wow, what a cottage.. Lovely and clean, quiet, everything that you need. The multi fuel burner was easy to use and was great when the weather was cold and snowy outside, but the central heating kept the cottage warm anyway. The locations is amazing, so quiet and peaceful. The views are fantastic and seeing the stars in a truly dark sky is a real experience. Convenient for Kelso and Jedburgh. And the Sat Nav took me right to the door. Will definitely visit again. A really great week, enjoyed every minute. Thanks!

January 2018
The location is beautiful but not within easy access of main roads.. This wouldn't have been a problem had we not been faced with around 8 inches of snow mid week. We returned home a day early because we didn't want to risk the weather conditions worsening. The cottage itself is delightful - generously warm and cosy with everything we needed. No mobile phone signal or internet. The owners and the neighbours were friendly and helpful. I would definitely book this cottage again.
Mrs Carroll, January 2018
November 2017
The cottage was absolutely gorgeous and Chris the owner a great guy.. Plenty of walks from the door as well as being well placed for visiting Kelso, Jedburgh, Coldstream or even Berwick on Tweed. Well recommend this cottage. The multi fuel burner was simply delightful with plenty of fuel supplied and the shower was to die for after a long day on the hills.

Fantastic cottage, very cosy and it had everything that we needed.. The location was excellent to be away from the hustle and bustle of every day life, but still within easy reach of the outlying towns. Great for walking the dog, seeing wild life and taking pictures. Having the owner two doors away was peace of mind if we needed anything.

I would highly recommend Kirk Cottage, fabulous (remote) location, so near amazing walks.. Very friendly and helpful locals, including the owners of this property. The cottage was above expectation, cosy, clean and luxurious. The owners couldn't have been more accommodating (the even have their own taxi service if you want a lift back from a walk!)

The Cottage is set in a wonderful quiet hamlet with lovely countryside right outside the door. The Cottage itself was a real cosy retreat away from the usual frenetic life of major towns and cities. We enjoyed our stay and the owners who only live two doors up made us very welcome and our two dogs felt at home. Overall I would recommend this cottage to anyone who needs a retreat to recharge from the rush of life.
