Beautiful , quaint little cottage in a stunning setting.. A real hidden gem. The cottage was very comfortable and cosy. The added bonus of a sun room with amazing views. It was so peaceful and quiet. Good base for visiting surrounding areas ,amazing amount of local walks if you wanted to have a break from the car! The owners are on hand if you need anything and are extremely helpful and friendly, gorgeous homemade scones and jam greeted us on our arrival . Free range chickens in the garden so had to keep dog on the lead all the time .Sheep and alpacas were in the surrounding fields , a great place to get away from all the hustle and bustle of every day life,

My husband and I chose Keepers cottage to simply get away and it superseded our expectations.. The sun room for us as with many before us was the making of this cottage. If you are a bird lover you have a front row view, I counted 13 varieties from the sun room window (amazing). The host was welcoming and made sure all was ok having left us the appreciated scones and jam. The amenities in the house were of a good standard and we lacked for nothing, I had forgotten the sugar and they had supplied some along with several other essentials. The weather (October) was very wild to say the least several of the days, but once again, from the sunroom we loved it. The remoteness was just enough with Alston only 4 miles down the road with the great attraction of the steam train rides and museum. For me, best holiday I have ever had. Thank you.

What a fabulous cottage with so many extra touches.. We had a lovely warm welcome accompanied with homemade scones and jam. The cottage is idyllic, with beautiful views out of every window. The pride of place is the beautiful, cozy sun room with stunning views overlooking the moors. We spent all our time when we were back at the cottage in this room watching the ever-changing views and wildlife and we had an amazing bonus of the red squirrel sitting on the windowsill whilst we filmed and took photos of her. The town of Alston is a lovely place with a lovely train ride to Slaggyford. We also went to Birdoswald Fort on Hadrians Wall, Ullswater, Keswick, Penrith and found a delightful place called Acorns Bank. We found a friendly pub on the Hexham Road called The Elks Head where the food and service were outstanding. I would definitely recommend this cottage, the owners are so friendly and informative, the extras provided such as dressing gowns just make you feel so welcome and special. There are local walks, mines and a lovely river. We saw so much wildlife including curlews, one near Alston and one near Nenthead. I have told my parents about this adorable cottage because I can just see them relaxing in the sun room enjoying the peace, tranquility and stunning views.

The ownerS, Steve & Sandra were the perfect hosts, shortly after we had arrived presented with a platter of freshly baked scones and strawberry jam.. He gave us a quick guided tour to explain where everything was and how to work things. The cottage was on split level and on the ground floor is a conservatory with views over the valley. There were bird feeder in the tree just outside the main window. The birds kept us amused, on one morning we were graced with a visit from a red squirrel. Everything had been provided for us at "Keepers" . We had a great stay.

Amazing cottages, so relaxing and well looked after, cannot fault a single thing and the homemade scones on arrival were delicious.. Lovely people, friendly without being intrusive and informative without being clever. The cottages exceeded the listing, the views and walks were many and the local village lovely, special mention to Nenthead Wesleyan Chapel which has been turned into a visitor centre with art work and cafe. We would certainly go again and were very sad when we had to leave. Many many thanks Sandy and Steven x

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful area.. The cottwge had everything we needed and its fantastic location was an ideal base to explore. The owners Steve and Sandra were lovely and we look forward to heading back. Would recommend this cottage to any walkers or dog owners as there are so many walks and so much to do.

We enjoyed our week and recommend Keepers though the weather wasn’t very kind to us.. It was lovely to sit and relax in the sun/cloud lounge to admire the beautiful view, to watch the alpacas, sheep and chickens and appreciate the peace and quiet. Despite the weather we did long walks every day, discovering wild life ( sadly no red squirrels), wild mountain pansies we had never seen before, architectural moss, impressive rivers and waterfalls and not seeing a soul for miles. Wonderful! The hosts, Sandra and Steve had delicious homemade scones and jam for us on arrival, provided useful maps and directions for local walks and were kind to offer lifts if needed. There is a useful community shop in Nenthead and more shops and pubs in Alston. The Cumberland offers decent pub food and we liked the Crossing café for lunches and cakes.

Beautiful North Pennine landscape with amazing views, especially from the conservatory.. This contributed to a feeling of peace and tranquility, even when the weather was cloudy and cold for the time of year. The owners were very helpful but not intrusive and were happy to let us stay on beyond 10 on our last day, as there was no--one else coming until the weekend.
Mrs Isaacson, April 2019

We had a super time and the owner was very friendly and helpful.. We hope to go back to the same cottage in the future. If you want to go out in the dark to look at the stars (it's a dark sky area) you need a torch!

We had a much needed and very relaxing weekend at the cottage and fully intend to come back as soon as we can.. It's peaceful and cosy and beautifully laid out. Sitting in the covered veranda each night, watching the Alpacas roam, the sun set and stars poke out was lovely, and we slept really well in the comfy bed. Perfect for just us 2 and our dog.

My husband and I stayed at Keepers in August as we were in desperate need of a relaxing few days and this place really hit the spot. The weather was dreadful most of the time given the time of year but with the lovely little conservatory that didn't matter. The place is so very cosy and such an easy place to spend time, we hardly saw a soul whilst we were there and that is exactly what we had wanted. There is plenty of walking right on the doorstep, the alpacas are delightful and there was lots of wildlife, especially birds to watch from the conservatory. We loved our stay here and would recommend it to anyone wanting some lovely peace and quiet in a comfortable location.

This lovely cottage is NOT in the Lake District, obviously we knew that as can read a map but Sykes referred to it as a Lake District property in e mails.. A brilliant thing is the sun room at the cottage, really enjoyed sitting in there, great views & a real plus.

Keepers is a charming look back to a bygone era with some of the furnishings in keeping with the age and character of the property. The downstairs lounge area is a real asset to the cottage with great views over the surrounding hillsides and valley. The area around Keepers is generally unspoilt with light traffic even at the weekends, with some beautiful walks right on your doorstep. The alpacas in the neighbouring fields make an unusual but welcome sight.
