Property Description

With walks and trails right from your door amongst glorious scenery, walkers, cyclists, hikers and climbers will be spoilt for choice in the Eskdale Valley. Scafell Pike, England s highest mountain, is one of the most thrilling climbs in the Lakes and is 10 miles away. A stroll along the River Esk is gentle and pretty, and the river has natural pools for swimming and is popular for canoeing and fishing. Take a 7 mile trip on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, more popularly known as La al Ratty, through beautiful scenery to the sea. Have a picnic and a dip in the sea at Drigg Beach, 6 miles away, or visit the beautiful seaside village of St Bees, 15 miles away and the starting point for the Coast to Coast Walk. History enthusiasts should visit Muncaster Castle, 7 miles away, steeped in history and with 77 acres of woodland and garden to explore. And, with five pubs within 5 miles, after a busy day, you can indulge in a hearty meal and pint of ale. Timelessly elegant and practical throughout, traditional furniture and paintings are complemented with beautiful and quirky soft furnishings, with patterned textiles and rugs adding an abundance of character. From the covered porch, head into the hallway and continue to the open plan kitchen/diner. The dining area overlooks the front garden and has an antique table that seats ten, perfect for meals with friends and family. The central feature of the kitchen is the Aga, there is plenty of worktop space and the under counter fridge and the dishwasher are built in. Various windows and a skylight make this a bright and welcoming room. The large utility room has a washing machine, tumble dryer and an American style fridge/freezer. From the kitchen, head to the main living room, where two three seater sofas, an armchair, and two chairs face the open fire. With the original stone flagged floor covered in strategically placed rugs, it's a room simply made for relaxing evenings around the fire. There is a TV, DVD player and stereo with CD player. The first snug has two armchairs around a feature fireplace and is ideal when adults and kids need their own space. Past the snug is another hallway leading to a second living room, second snug, and second kitchen. The second lounge has a three seater sofa and an armchair and another open fire, while the second snug has a two seater sofa. The second kitchen is reached via two steps and has an Aga, a microwave and a smoothie maker. Completing the ground floor is the separate WC. Two flights of stairs are linked by an upstairs corridor from which the bedrooms are accessed. All the bedrooms have exposed oak floorboards with rugs and built in oak cupboards with hanging space and drawers. Period furniture is dotted throughout. There are two king size bedrooms, one with beautiful views over the valley and one with an en suite bathroom with a shower over the bath. There are two twin bedrooms and a bunk room with the top bunk reached by free standing steps and therefore not suitable for young children. Completing the accommodation are two stylish, family bathrooms both with large baths and separate showers. Outside, there are extensive grounds with lawns wrapping around the house. There is a small garden enclosed by stone walls with cobbled paths through it and a range of fruit bushes and herbaceous plants. A bench at the top provides a perfect spot to sit and enjoy the garden and the views beyond. At the front of the house, there is a patio with a large slate table and seating for a spot of al fresco dining, and from the side, a little path leads to a small woodland and orchard. Behind the house, you ll find a large area of open woodland with a stream, benches overlooking a large but shallow pond, rocky outcrops and sunny glades. There is also ample off road parking.
