Great location, very friendly people - loved the flowers and bottle of wine.. We met Mr Richardson a couple of times, he was chatty and very helpful - could not have picked a better de-stress get away.

Lovely apartment in Dorset overlooking the beach.. Clean and tidy on arrival and useful that they supplied fresh tea towels, sponge, j-cloth, bin bag and washing up liquid as well as a few dishwasher tablets so you don’t have to buy during 7 day stay. Comfortable stay as plenty of space, quick access to west bay facilities all within walking distance so you can leave the car in secure underground car park until end of holiday if you didn’t want to explore the coast further afield. Get sun on balcony from about 2pm and sunset is lovely to watch whilst enjoying bottle of wine on comfy balcony furniture. Plenty to do including paddle boarding from the east beach, rib rides from harbour, river kayaking and rowing boats on River Brit behind the harbour (get to see Broadchurch Detective’s riverside chalet from boat) as well as coastal walks to east over the ‘Broadchurch’ cliffs to Chesil Beach or west over the cliffs to Eype and Golden Cap near Lyme Regis. Incidentally several external areas around the apartment block were used to represent the Broadchurch police station if you enjoyed the TV series. Nearest supermarket is Morrison’s 2 miles away in Bridport but can pick up bits in Spar if don’t want to use the car. Restaurants limited due to Covid with several closed or just doing takeaway but we knew that would be case and apartment had all equipment in kitchen to enable full meals to be prepared so we had best of both worlds as cooking was easy with those lovely sea views.

The kitchen had an unpleasant odour throughout the trip.. Due to the owner's mum living right next door to us (semi-detached ), we had to be cautious about noise levels.

We have been visiting the Duddon Valley for many years and High kiln Bank cottage is ideally placed to enjoy this part of the lake district.. As for the accommodation; simply excellent. We highly recommend this property and would be happy to return. No Wifi or mobile signal, bliss if you want to get away from the distraction and unwind.

This was a beautiful cottage in a beautiful hidden valley, but the remoteness may come as a surprise to some.. The cottage was not that well equipped in the kitchen, especially as most visitors would have to spend time cooking, as there is not a lot of other eating establishments around. This cottage won't appeal to the casual Lakes visitor, as it is so remote, but that is part of the appeal to us

This is a lovely, spacious farm house full of character and excellent facilities eg hot water, great showers, efficient heating system, log-burning stove.. There is a separate "Orchard" a few yards from the cottage which has seats and table and wonderful views over the Duddon valley:- great place to sit and for children to play. We really appreciated being met by the owner who showed us around the property and clearly explained all of its systems. We would be very happy to stay there again. Suggestions to owner: NOT TO BE PUBLISHED Because the cottage is remote and shopping is some distance away we would suggest: Providing (a) some tablets for the dish washer (b) some washing powder (eg enough to do one wash) and (c) something (eg a dish cloth or pan scourer) to aid in washing the dishes. These would make life there easier. Again because of remoteness, the owner could consider supplying a loaf of bread, some butter/margarene, a bottle of milk and a few tea bags as a welcome pack-just to get started on the arrival day.

We booked this cottage via booking.. Com and the listing was pretty much the same as Sykes. I felt Sykes was a bit more thorough than booking. Telephone conversations were seamless with Sykes. Payment transactions & any information we needed made the holiday booking a true joy. We will definitely use Sykes again, and would recommend them to anyone.

This cottage is in a delightful location especially if you are keen walkers.. The weather on this occasion was superb and sitting in the orchard area looking over the view of the valley was amazing.

I enjoyed the surroundings as it was my first visit to the Lake District.. The owners' mother lived next door and was so kind, and helpful. She had so much knowledge and experience of this beautiful place. I was going through a difficult time and found the peace that I was looking for. Thank you . My dog Hugo loved it too!

January 2018
This was our New Year break. Location stunning, although we found it difficult to negotiate the driveway made worse by the snow and ice on the day we arrived. The owners would have helped us to get up the lane with the Land Rover but we could not contact them because there was no phone signal in the surrounding area. However the cottage when we arrived was comfortable and pets no problem. The owners were welcoming and informed us of how the heating worked ( in 2hr bursts) and of the land line next door for emergencies ( you never know with children and older adults), however the old lady next door was away for the holidays. The owner did leave the adjoining door to the ladies cottage unlocked , but even though this was very trusting of them it is not an ideal solution. We were a party of 7 plus two dogs, however three of us were over 70 and whilst my husband and I are fit and active and loved the walks , our other family member has difficulty with here mobility and found things very difficult as all the bathrooms are upstairs and the terrain difficult for walking outside. So in closing a beautiful, peaceful "summer" retreat ideally suited for the fit and active and I feel some mention of this should made in the description of the cottage. On the whole our family enjoyed the break, so if you like to be "down with the sheep" then this is the place for you. We would return but only in warmer weather and alas not with all of our family members which is a pity.

We have just returned from a brilliant week here. The cottage itself is lovely; very spacious and in a beautiful setting. The rooms were perfect for our family and beds very comfortable. We loved just going outside and hearing nothing but the occasional bird chirping. The orchard is gorgeous to sit in and just take in the scenery. My daughter loved having the piano in the cottage and also the games and books. It was so nice to spend a week away from wifi and phone signals. The lady next door was so friendly and lovely. She told us of a nice walk to go on near a river. We followed her instructions on how to get there and ended up at a really nice part of the river which the kids ended up playing in most of the day as the weather was roasting. I would love to return here as it was such a relaxing week.

The cottage is in a beautiful location and there is plenty of room around it for playing with the children or just enjoying the sunshine. There are lots of walks from the cottage and the area is generally quieter than other parts of the Lakes.

High Kiln Bank Cottage is an excellent, beautiful house located in a quiet and peaceful part of the Lake District. It was the perfect base for exploring the Western Lake District. The owners met us when we arrived and explained how everything works at the house, which was helpful. The kitchen was well stocked and all the appliances were new and user-friendly.

High Kiln Bank cottage is a beautiful, period farmhouse in a remote and rarely-visited part of the Lake District. It is quiet, beautiful, and extremely peaceful. We traveled to the cottage by car, and received good directions which brought us straight to the property. When we arrived, we were met by the owner (even though we were running late) who was extremely helpful and friendly. She showed us how to make everything work - from the hot water heater to locking the upstairs windows for safety. Maybe most impressive and thoughtful is that they knew we were coming with three young children so they had installed a child gate at the top and bottom of the stairs just for us. Very thoughtful. The cottage is very large, with a kitchen and table which seats eight comfortably, lounge, three bedrooms and three baths. The lounge even has space for a grand piano which is tucked away nicely and the owner were happy with my children playing (banging) on the instrument. The showers are great, with lots of hot water and excellent water pressure (not always common in older houses in the UK). The kitchen was well-stocked. There is a very good dishwasher, washer/dryer combo, fridge, freezer, tea kettle, toaster, French press, etc. Plenty of dishes, cutlery, well-made pots and pans, and so on make it easy to cook for a family in the cottage. The views are amazing. The house is perched on a hillside over one of the most picturesque valleys in the Lake District. There are a handful of gardens around the house where you can enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning or glass of wine after dinner. There is a fenced in orchard with a picnic table that is perfect for kids. We brought our dog as well, and often a "pet-friendly" place makes you feel uncomfortable for having brought your dog. That is not the case here, they were very happy with our dog to wander around off the lead. One part of the visit that was very special for our kids is that the owner's 96-year old mother lives in the other half of the holiday rental (think two semi-detached cottages with a door between in the inside that is not used). She has been living there for 70 years and was so sweet to our kids and our dog. She even told us about when the Lake District had no power, no running water, when she was in the RAF during the Second World War. It was a real pleasure to be able to talk with her through the week. Of note, there is no mobile connectivity in this area of the Lake District. There is a land-line phone next door in case of an emergency. Overall, the owners were very kind and accommodating and the cottage is a real gem. It is in a peaceful part of the Western Lake District. We'll go back!

"pass the top of the hill, then over the cattle grids, and turn right after a few yards". This is the end of the connected world, but the beginning of the connection to nature, quietness, a sweet home, and the kindness of its owners. From High Kiln Bank, you will be able to go all around in the Lake district, but then maybe after a few days, you will prefer staying in the sweet Duddon Valley, enjoying your cosy home, the nice views from all windows, and breakfast or tea time in the gardens. The most courageous will run to the top of the hill in the morning, the most gourmets will hike further (motivated by a nearby very nice inn). Just go there !

The cottage was set in the midst of beautiful unspoilt countryside. It was very quiet and a great retreat from the noise and bustle of the modern world. There was a terrace garden with tables and chairs with lovely views down the Duddon valley. The lounge was large and could easily be used by 7-8 people without feeling cramped. The countryside around is great for walking, so unless you want to walk elsewhere, you could easily spend an enjoyable week exploring the local area.

This cottage is off the beaten track and we found it very relaxing and quiet. We loved the log fire in the living room. We found Broughton a charming place to visit.
