If your looking for a quiet break in a cosy cottage with all facilities this is ideal.. The site is clean with good facilities. Situated in the countryside there are some good walks nearby along the Tees and you are ideally situated for Barnard Castle, Richmond, Leyburn, Raby Castle and Hamsterley Forest. Great fish and chips in Gainford

The cottage was exactly what we wanted, somewhere to relax & sleep after a day out exploring with dog.. The owners were lovely, location was amazing, the site was very quiet. The cottage was lovely with all you would need & more for a holiday. Bed linen & towels were included and the cottage was clean although the hard to reach spots could have done with some attention but it didn’t spoil our time at Hawthorn Cottage.

The property was always kept warm and cosy in the late October of my stay and the place and its utilities were clean.. The nearest pub in the nearby village called Caldwell - The Brownlow Inn- supplies excellent food as well. Parking space was good and the place right at this time of the year for a good quiet week away from work.

The settee and arm chair was a tad uncomfortable, settee on the small side, the chair was uncomfortable.. Would not like to have stayed a week with only those to sit on The bed was extremely comfortable, tad on the small side. Very well equipped cottage, nice space to sit out when weather allows. Very peaceful and quiet Would book again for a short break,

The cottage was lovely but there was no dog walking area as its says, which was one of the reasons we booked it , so we had to take the dog out in the car to fined somewhere and its on a busy site with about 20 or more caravans and lots of pods which it doesn't say when booking , We did have a lovely time out and about and the weather was fab

Peace and tranquility is what l wanted most of all.. Hawthorn Cottage gave this to me and l was able to focus on my memoirs. I achieved a comprehensive chapter and also managed to tour around Swaledale and cross the moors on my way back. Just in time to catch low lying clouds for several miles before joining the A66 to get back to the cottage. Ed and Kate were helpful in supplying all the information l requested and will include my stay on the National Park in my book. Thank you Sykes for making this location possible.

The hosts Kate and Ed were brilliant nothing was too much trouble, that said they were around if you needed them but not intrusive, thoroughly enjoyed the week.. Our dog really loved the field, when we were there there are pathways of cut grass among longer uncut grass with play areas at top and bottom of field, our dog loved running along the pathways. For people that do not know the area it was quiet and restful. Good road links to local A Roads. The locals and the locality are lovely. Visited Barnard Castle, Darlington, Yarm and Richmond, to name a few.
