Area
The lovely, picturesque, 'Maypole village' of Ovington is situated on the south bank of the River Tees, between County Durham and North Yorkshire boundaries. With a village green and a traditional pub that serves homemade food and real ales, Ovington is an ideal place for you to enjoy wildlife and country walks with golf, horse riding, fishing and swimming being just some of the wide range of activities which are available within an eight mile radius. Both the charming and popular market towns of Barnard Castle (6 miles) and Richmond (12 miles) are within easy reach. Barnard Castle stands on the site of an ancient Roman fort, which crosses the river Tees. The medieval ruins of the castle still tower over the river and are well worth a visit. Known affectionately as ‘Barney’ by residents and visitors alike, the town boasts cobble streets, yards and back lanes, which were first laid out in the 12th century. The nearby Bowes Museum is well worth a visit and a wonderful way to spend a day wandering around this beautiful building and experiencing the fascinating exhibitions. The Pennine and Teesdale Ways, the medieval Raby Castle with deer park and magnificent waterfalls at High Force are all nearby, and Durham, Richmond and Ripon are within driving distance.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Just coming to the end of our week's holiday in Hall cottage and we have had an amazing time, the pictures in the brochure don't do this place justice. It's a beautiful old cottage with all the modern amenities you need, we loved the beautiful walled front garden, spent lots of afternoon s soaking up the sun and enjoying barbecues. Its very secure for dogs we just made sure we kept it as we found it. The grass area was great for a spot of badminton. Inside very nice appointed kitchen with everything you need, great lounge area for family games or the TV which was a really good size. Bathrooms were a functional we knew about the plumbing but never had any issues as we only used the upstairs bathroom. The bedrooms are all really great, good sizes and very light and airy again all with good tvs. WiFi was hit and miss but you expect that in rural areas. The pub across the road is delightful and you will get a warm welcome along with great food and drinks. We wouldn't hesitate to come here again or recommend it to others, yes there's a few bits that need sorting but not worth mentioning. This is an ideal place to holiday with family and four legged friends. The walk down to the river is worth it especially if you enjoy wild swimming. One other thing to mention is the quality of towels and bedding really first class.

Just returned from an amazing week in Hall Cottage....the cottage is great with everything you could need and more!! The garden was perfect for the dogs and really is so secure. The location is great for exploring and Christine and Dave at The Four Alls are great hosts. Warm and friendly welcome and the food is fantastic...including plenty of options for gluten free guests. Would highly recommended and will be returning Jo, Neil, Laura, Derek and the dogs Mya and Bailey xx

Upon arrival first impressions were good but after our first day we noticed the toilet was not fixed to the floor then the shower would stop running after 20 seconds of use and would end up a trickle, not good when covered in soap. These things are annoying but not the end of the world but it was when we looked under the sofa which is on tall legs we saw the dogs hairs , cobwebs and toe/ finger nails. We pulled away the sofa and it was clear that it hadn't been cleaned for months. We became concerned and moved the bed and it was awful, mass of dog and human hair. It was clear that the cleaning was just the walk ways. We have stayed in many cottages and all have been lovely and clean, the cleanliness of this cottage is not acceptable as you can see from the photos. You make your own conclusion.

Had a great week staying at Hall Cottage, really didn't want to come home. The property is fantastic and has everything and more that you need. The rooms are a great size and the layout really works. Beds and linen are very nice quality. All appliances are good standard, lots of extras like tv's in all rooms, coffee machine, bbq, dishwasher. Property was spotlessly clean. The owners seemed very nice and helpful. Two fully enclosed gardens the main one is really big. Good off road parking. Ovington is a good base to stay in. Couple of decent walks from the front door. The local pub The Four Alls is fab, great food and friendly service. Would highly recommend this rental, we will definitely go back.
