Absolutely lovely cottage in a tranquil setting.. The only negative being no wifi

August 2020
The cottage is just as pretty as it looks on the photos on the outside and it is in a beautiful location with lots of walks nearby.. However the things that let it down which may sound trivial but are really needed (especially as its in Devon and the weather is never guaranteed) there is nowhere to dry your clothes or towels only a clothes airer which doesn't do much. There is no mobile phone reception and no wifi at all which sounds lovely but very frustrating if you are looking for somewhere to visit or to see what time opening hours places are...you can't check until you are at least halfway down the lane (approx 3/4 mile from the house). The cottage feels abit unloved as there are also some repairs that need to be done..shower screen seal broken, toilet seat needs replacing, paint peeling and for the price we paid this was a let down. If these few things were sorted then we would recommend this place again and again as it is beautiful.

Chose this cottage as was recommended to us through family. We were not disappointed.. We absolutely loved our stay at the cottage. It’s very comfortable and spacious, in a perfect location to explore Devon. We loved the surroundings and nature around us. The fire was a treat- Lovely and cosy. We had everything we needed at the cottage and is a perfect spot if you’re looking for a dog friendly holiday. Hosts were always available if needed and happy to help. Thank you lovely Zoe and Malcolm. We look forward to seeing you again.

A picture postcard setting , ideal for a complete getaway over New Year, wonderful to be able to bring the dogs with walks literally straight out of the front door. Some great pubs very close by, we loved the Duke of York in Iddesleigh which is about 2 miles each way following the Tarka Trail , right out of the front gate or the Tally Ho which is 1.5 miles into the village of Hatherleigh . We did lots of cooking so it was great to have a well equipped kitchen and also with such muddy walking the use of the washing machine was a complete must! Absolutely adored the log burner and I thought the Christmas tree with lights made for a very romantic setting . Great hosts who whilst at hand if you have any questions were totally anonymous otherwise. Would absolutely recommend this barn if you’re looking for a releasing break . We visited Bude, Westwood Ho, Tintagel and Boscastle , nothing more than 50 minutes drive and all well worth the visit .

Lovely rural setting.. Friendly approachable hosts. Fenced area at front of property with 5bar gate to allow dogs off lead. Sheep, ducks and wildlife to observe and part of Tarka Trail to explore. Lovely open plan living space. Well equipped kitchen. Nearby `Well Made` Cafe for delicious lunches with horticulture gardens and livestock to visit. War Horse Museum close by within working farm with tractor trailer ride, watch milking, feed calves. Forestry Commission reserve near Folly Gate for dog walking and nearby Nature Reserve. A lovely peaceful holiday.

What a wonderful place this is.. quiet and comfortable. a place to relax and watch the wildlife. The owners malc and zoe were there with advice on where to go and checked that everything was alright for us. we will be recommended the Grove to everyone we know.

This cottage is terrible value for money: absolute minimum of everything from a half roll of loo roll no extra binliners, no coffee pot, not a tin of salt or tea bag upon arrival.. NO WIFI. NO CELL SERVICE. The "patio" is a picnic table in the car park. "Cider House Rules" posted all over do not lend an air of welcome. And the only time we saw the owners was 5 minutes when we arrived. The only real positive were very comfortable beds.

Beautiful location in very peaceful spot but with many top quality attractions and walks in easy reach.. With the weather as it was Devon and Cornwall can better any overseas holiday, with Bude and Woolacombe beaches fighting for top spot with the children. For the others Rosemoor and Arlington Court topped their list.

This cottage is set 1.. 5miles from Hatherleigh in a absolutely beautiful setting. If you are after a tranquil and rural setting then this is the one for you. The Granary is beautiful. Everything you would need for a family get away! Don't let the lack of wifi put you off! The countryside is calling you to explore! The cottage is beautiful, the kitchen has everything you would need (no dishwasher). The shower in the bathroom is excellent - you feel like you have had full body massage! The log burner is a real asset. Upstairs the bedrooms have everything, comfy beds, wardrobes and TV's. Malcolm and Zoe are brilliant hosts and are always on hand if you need anything. We will definitely be back!!

Lovely spacious cottage in rural location.. However, if you have small dogs the garden is not secure as they can get through the bar gate. Hopefully the owner will put some stock fencing onto it on the lower half to prevent this. Also, no welcome pack, not one single teabag or milk etc.for arrival so be aware and stock up before arrival.

My kind of holiday.. Relaxing quiet. Lovey owners; helpful and kind. Cottage was super. Remote (which for me was perfect) but you do need to think of everything you might need for this type of holiday in terms of consumables. All in all a super time and will definitely be going back. Grateful thanks to Malcolm and Zoe (owners)

Lovely cottage near a small friendly village with two great pubs.. Great for exploring Devon/Cornwall or just for relaxing.

Over all the cottage was very comfortable.. The only criticism would be that there is no area to relax out side, if a small rear garden would or could be created it would enhance the property and increase the appeal.

Set in the most amazing countryside this former barn has been turned into a bit of a jewel, we were made to feel at home straight away, the granary has class, style, the wow factor. Ever so reasonably priced for a 5 star property. We had a week of discovery and noticed holiday makers come back again and again. Thank you Malcolm and Zoe plus your mum and dad for a Devonshire treat with our 4 dogs.

we recently stayed at this wonderful cottage with our small dog Teisha. on our arrival we were made to feel at home already by the lovely warm welcome by Zoe and her husband Malcolm. nothing was to much trouble for them . if we needed advice on how far somewhere was they were on hand to answer our queries. they have done an amazeing job with the cottage. its in a stunning location. and I loved feeding the ducks every morning and watching them in the duck pond in the garden. and gorgeous views at the back to. . the cottage is extreamly well equipped and warm and inviteing.there is ample room and has been very tastefuly decorated. and although the down stairs lounge is really big. we was not cold at all. and did not need the fire on at all..everywhere was immaculate and clean. Haherleigh isnt very big but the two pubs do lovely meals and dogs are allowed in them which is a bonus the museum at the quay is a great day out I had such fun dressing up in Victorian clothes. there is loads to do as the cottage is in a really good spot and not to far from places to see for a good day out. we had a superb holiday and cant thank Zoe and Macolm enough for making it possible we did not want to leave this gorgeous cottage and will be back. thanks you.

The location is great - very peaceful and fairly isolated. The owners were very accommodating and genuinely lovely people who were keen to ensure that we had everything we needed (which we did!). The accommodation was exactly as advertised - there was lots of space for us and our 3 dogs and we were particularly impressed with how comfortable the bed was. We are already talking about when we might be able to go back!

Arrived on cold evening greeted by a roaring log fire, extremely clean cottage and fresh bedding that smelt lovely. The owners introduced themselves and what a lovely accommodating couple they are nothing was any bother. The cottage is well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. Great location to explore Devonshire and Cornwall. There is duck pond that is well fenced off, which kept our gundogs from getting in for a swim. Tarka trail is on doorstep which was great to tire out our dogs. Such a quite, relaxing stay. The owners have done such a spectacular job on renovating such a fabulous thatch cottage. If you like walks or want to explore Devonshire and Cornwall or just want somewhere to recouarate from the stresses of life this is the place to stay. Hope to return very soon.

Such a wonderful cottage, really didn't want to leave! The cottage was beautiful, so comfortable and warm. Set at the end of a very long lane, which added to the feeling of seclusion, privacy, peace and quiet. Couldn't fault anything on this holiday, we'd go back in a flash! Please, please can we move in?

Perfect cottage for a relaxing holiday in the beautiful Devon countryside. Cottage well equipped, lovely comfy beds and is Ideal for pet owners as up to 4 dogs are allowed at no extra cost, Wake up in the morning to the sounds of ducks in the adjacent fenced in duck pond. Perfectly located for exploring Devon, and not far from superb beaches on the north Cornwall coast. The owners are lovely and most welcoming and live in an adjacent detached thatched cottage. For walkers the cottage is on the Tarka Trail footpath, which slightly further north becomes a cycleway.

The property was very good and the interior was excellent. It was very quiet where it was situated, there are not many properties you can go where sheep from the nearby farm are right outside your windows. Overall it was very good and we would recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet relaxing holiday. The owners were very pleasant and we had no problems at all.

We were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome by our hosts, who were lovely. The Cottage itself is beautiful and has everything that you need. The cottage is clean, comfortable and homely. It is located down a very long narrow lane, but this adds to the feeling of getting away from it all. The cottage is situated actually along the Tarka Trail, so if walking is your thing you can start from your front door. Widemouth beach is within a reasonable drive for a day at the coast. My younger daughter loved having our very own duck pond, (which is fenced off for safety). This a great place to really get away from all the hustle and bustle and enjoy the peace and quiet, but is still within easy reach of the local attractions within a short drive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Groves Fishleigh.
