This was our first visit to Grove Cottage. And going on our first impression when we arrived, we were already mentally booking the next visit.
Grove Cottage is a fantastic base to start any day. With so much stuff on your doorstep, a week is never enough.
We visited the National Railway Museum, North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Eden Camp, Whitby, Scarborough, Bridlington, York Castle Museum, Helmsley Castle, Rievaulx Abbey, Pickering and popped in to Hutton-le-Hole during our stay. We were never more than an hour from anything.
The cottage itself is beautiful. Even though it's attached to the owner's own property, you never get the impression that you're being watched over. In fact, most of the time we felt like we were in the middle of nowhere on our own. Which was great, because it made it peaceful and relaxing. The layout of the property is great too. With a through plan downstairs consisting of lounge, kitchen and diner in one large room, with a large play room/snug off to the side. This was equally brilliant, as it meant we could shut our 5 year old in there with her toys and a DVD and not hear a peep from here for hours.
Upstairs is much the same, with a bedroom either end and the large bathroom between. Large walk in shower, and a fantastic view from the window when you're having a shave in the morning.
There are of course a couple of things that stand out with this property. There is the added bonus of an amazing hot tub, which we used every night (bar one due to bad weather). The second; the owners have 5 horses at the bottom of the garden, which leads on to their own paddock. 3 shires and 2 shetlands. We did venture down to say hello to them all, and the owner let us have some carrots to feed them. The shetlands stay a little closer to the house during the day in a fenced off section of the paddock, whereas the shires have the run of the field. We did however leave the house one day to find the shetlands running around in the owner's garden. They are very friendly.
This house is great for families of any age. We have a youngster and she loved it.
We will definitely be back again.
