Area
Once an important medieval market town, the settlement of Milnthorpe is located in the southern Lake District between Kendal and Carnforth. Just a few miles from the seaside village of Arnside, evidence of Milnthorpe's history can still be found amongst the narrow lanes and historic buildings, illustrating a time before the motor car. Set in lovely rolling countryside, the area also offers many great outdoor activities including the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis with its tropical hall and butterfly house. Dallam Tower and Levens Hall - both of which are historic stately homes with deer parks, topiary and ornamental gardens - provide a great day out for visitors. Other excellent attractions include Leighton Hall, Sizergh Castle, the Great Lakes Aquarium, Windermere and Grizedale Forest – all of which are located within easy reach.

Region
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

We have just stayed for four nights at Greystones. It was lovely! The place is excellently situated to explore the lake district and great value for money. The owners cannot do enough for you. It was my wife's birthday when we were staying at the cottage and they assisted me to ensure that she had a wonderful day...sourcing flowers, cake and a bottle of Prosecco locally and helping me to surprise her on her big day. The In-laws also stayed with us and loved the place too. We shall definitely be looking at booking again!

The cottage had everything we needed for a lovely relaxing holiday.. There were biscuits, milk and orange juice waiting for us, comfy beds for a good nights sleep, two good showers, easy to use appliances and plenty of cooking utensils. We will definitely book to return to Greystones soon.

Delia was very helpful and was available for any queries that we had.. The location was very handy for the southern lakes and Lancaster. The cottage was warm and cosy and fitted our needs. We were travelling as four adults and two children 8 & 6 plus a dog. There was a nice touch in that we arrived to find two pints of milk and orange juice in the fridge. The nearest town was about 5 miles away so we made sure we were stocked up. If we are looking to visit the area again we would look to returning to this cottage.

Gorgeous, cosy holiday cottage.. It was spotlessly clean and beautifully presented. Really good use was made of the space and, although a small cottage, it was perfect for us & we didn’t feel cramped (3 adults & 2 young teenagers). The kitchen was well stocked with cooking equipment and there was a really thoughtful welcome gift of goodies on arrival (tea, milk, biscuits etc). The location was handy for visiting both the southern Lakes & Yorkshire Dales. Loved our stay, wish it had been longer & I hope we get to return soon!

This is an outstandingly well maintained cottage.. The owners have thought of every extra you may need from a large selection of board games to varied selection of dvds. The cottage is very well equipped, warm, clean and the outside area secure if you have brought your dog. On arrival we found the owners had left us a free welcome pack of a bottle of wine, chilled juice, a bottle of milk and a box of biscuits. They had even put up a small tree and some Christmas decorations as we were staying over the Christmas period.

The cottage is brilliantly located south of Kendal - rural setting with very easy access to motorway and main roads to other parts of Lake District.. The cottage is part of a barn conversion, which has been done to a very high standard with accommodation over 3 floors. The cottage was very clean and well kitted out for self catering - with the most being made of the relatively small spaces. Plenty of things to do locally - and a great base for walking both in the Lakes and further south in Arnside/Silverside. Would return to both the area and the cottage.

This was our first time visiting this area of the country and we were not disappointed.. So much to see and do in and around the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Greystones was a beautiful converted old thrashing barn, located in a lovely quiet lane, with plenty of dog walking areas on your doorstop. My family had a fantastic holiday here.

Excellent accommodation which provides a relaxing stay in a beautiful part of the country.. The cottage provides everything you need for you to enjoy your stay. Very dog friendly and with the Lancaster canal very close by long off lead walks are possible. The cottage is only a few minutes off the M6 and equidistant to Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale. The lovely owners live nearby and are very helpful. Overall a true home from home and I will definitely return.

The owners of Greystones were very friendly and helpful and the location of the cottage is great for exploring Cumbria and the Lake District.. Be aware that this is a snug cottage for six and in order to all eat at the table some rearrangement of furniture is needed. For most of our stay there was just four of us so not really a problem!

This was our second stay at Greystones and we will be booking again! A very spacious and welcoming cottage - spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The beautiful Kendal to Lancaster Canal is literally on your doorstep for miles of off-lead walking, and the stunning South Lakes are moments away by car. So much to offer for a family break and lots of local information to hand.

A real home from home for our family of five.. The location is perfect and the cottage well equipped and spotlessly clean. Delia and her family are on hand if you need them and gave us a very warm welcome on arrival. I thoroughly recommend this cottage for dog walkers - the Kendal to Lancaster canal is literally on your doorstep and the stunning South Lakes moments away by car. So much to offer for a family getaway. This was our second visit to Greystones and our third experience of booking through Sykes and we will most definitely be booking again!

Greystone is a well equipped and presented cottage with excellent facilities and access to road network.. We had a great time and found the location ideal for our needs. The only draw back from our point of view was the living accommodation which we felt was cramped for the five of us, however this would not deter us from staying here again.

Just returned from a week stay with friends joining ourselves for a couple of nights. Lovely clean well equipped cottage over 3 floors. Lovely bedding and towels, lovely warm accommodation. Thoughtful touch with the goodie pack when we arrived much appreciated from our hosts. Thank you. Gated area large enough for 2 cars and secure to let our dog outside. Nice walks close by for our morning walk before we set off to explore the area. Close to Kendal easy reach for with Windermere and national trust venues. We have managed to have a good week weather wise . would recommend to families or couples we loved it. Thanks again for letting us stay at your lovely cottage.

We had a great stay at Greystones, there where 3 of us and the dog. When we arrived we had a warm welcome off the owner, who couldn't have done enough for us. There was milk, bread, biscuits and other goodies provided, which was a nice thoughtful thing to do. The accommodation was on three floors which was a bedroom and shower room with wc on the bottom floor, the middle floor was the kitchen/diner/lounge which was big enough for a large family. The top floor had another two bedrooms and shower/wc room. As holiday accommodation goes this must be rated high for self catering, I have stayed in a few and this rates as one of the best I have stayed in. There are supermarkets not to far away in Kendal and Milnthorpe, with a local shop and bakery closer. There are plenty of nice eating places nearby, most are dog friendly to. It's not just the Lake District close by, your not to far from the Yorkshire Dales and the Cumbrian coast.

The cottage had everything needed for a comfortable stay; all new furnishings, spotlessly clean, finishing touches, every detail was included. Situated in a peaceful location, very quiet. Can't praise this place enough. Even though its 'self catering' when we arrived they'd popped some fresh milk, coffee, fruit and biscuits in ready to get us set up. The whole cottage was immaculate throughout - the devil is in the detail and little touches like a big draw full of DVDs kept our 2 small boys entertained in the evenings... They also really appreciated the 'night lights' in the hallways that came on in evenings too! The facilities inside all felt top quality and we weren't left needing for anything, it comfortably slept 6 of us. The lady who ran the cottage was lovely and really keen to make sure we had everything we needed to have a great stay. 5 stars, highly recommended!

Greystones is lovely and the way it is set out is very good, 3 floors - Bedrooms top and bottom and kitchen diner/ Lounge in between, A lovely couple run it and they are close enough to solve any problems but leave you to enjoy your holiday. I would recommend this to anyone.

Good location for walks and sightseeing. Very close to road connections in the region; but still felt rural and quiet. We were made to feel most welcome by our host and found her to be very helpful. Cottage was lovely and very comfortable. Milton was a very picturesque hamlet; although driving down the narrow country lanes was a bit daunting at first, we soon got used to it and sussed out when best to avoid other road users. We were fortunate to enjoy wonderful weather, so made good use of it through day trips and scenic walks and really did not have time to visit any of the big house attractions or museums in the area. Good base for visiting the Southern Lakes and surrounding area.
